PORT CHARLES - HALLOWEEN'S SCARIEST MOMENTS

Eve and Chris come out of the elevator. He thinks she's being
insensitive. Julie could really be in trouble. Garcia is in the lounge
with Julie's parents and Ellen. Ellen calls to Eve and Chris, asking
them to come over. Eve says to Chris that Julie might have just
gone to an exclusive spa to lick her wounds. They join Garica's
group. Ellen introduces them. Garcia wants to ask them questions
about Julie. Chris greets Dr. Devlin who introduces them to his
wife Nicole "totally clueless" Devlin. She recognizes Eve's name
to Bennett's discomfort. Garcia says he wants them all to compare
notes on Julie.

Scariest Moment - Eve's uncanny resemblance to Mrs. Devlin,
and what this implies about Bennett.

Julie is awakened by Cooper caressing her face with a glass of
ice water. After he has gotten her to wake up he proudly points
out the display he has created over the bed. Dozens of pictures
of Julie's face are plastered on the wall. He bounces back to her
side and urges her to drink the water. She does and asks for
some food. No food. (Not before surgery, Julie.) She asks if
he plans to starve her to death. He says she just has to be patient.
(That's a joke.) "This is going to be a Halloween you'll remember
for the rest of your life." She spits on him and he licks it off.

Scariest Moment - The Julie Wall.

Karen and Joe are at Gail's house, which is decorated for the
Halloween Party. Both of them are unseen, since they are
getting into their costumes outside the room and are reluctant
to come out. But they do so on the count of three. They are
both dressed in skimpy leopard skin outfits. They are both
embarrassed. Karen thinks Joe looks cute in his loincloth. She
asks who he's supposed to be. George of the Jungle and her's
is Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. Lucy picked out the costumes
for them. Karen suggests they light the various candles set
around the room. Not so casually, she mentions to Joe that she
has hired a divorce attorney. Before Joe can comment Serena
runs in cackling in her little witch's costume. Serena thinks Joe
and Karen look cool. Gail comes in and thinks they're Tarzan
and Jane. Gail has just brought Serena back from the school
Halloween party. Serena is excited because she gets a visit from
her father that evening. She declares that this will be "The happiest
Halloween ever."

Scariest Moment - Joe and Karen in charge of lighting candles.

Scotty comes down the firehouse stairs. Rhonda is sitting on the
steps working on some paperwork. There are boxes and furniture
scattered around the room. She wishes he would let her unpack
some things and make the place livable. It doesn't matter to him
until he gets Serena back. She asks if he's seen her and he says
he'll have visitation rights that night. Rhonda comments that Scott
must be having a rough time. He is, but he thinks it's worse for
Serena. There is a knock on the door. He answers it. It's a
process server, delivering papers. Scott reads them. Rex and
Danielle have filed a custody suit. Scott is enraged. Rex doesn't
care about Serena. He doesn't even know her. Rhonda asks why
Rex would want Serena. Scott explains that Rex wants Serena's
money. Rhonda suggests that since Rex and Danielle are virtual
strangers, a court wouldn't give them custody. Scott points out the
F.B.I. charges against him and Danielle and Rex being blood
relatives. Rhonda thinks that Scott should work on getting the
charges dismissed first and then get back custody of Serena. Scott
insists that he isn't going to let Rex get his slimy hands on Serena.

Scariest Moment - Rhonda implying she might decorate.

Back at the hospital Grace ceremoniously adds Matt to the surgical
rotation. She gives him a high five, and we pan to Garcia's group
in the lounge. He lists where he has officer's looking for Julie.
(Boy, Officer Rick must be busy.) Garcia needs to speak with the
people who lived and worked with Julie. Mrs. Devlin offers to
give him the names of all Julie childhood and school friends.
Garcia asks all of them to give him any scrap of information that
might shed some light on Julie's whereabouts. He needs to know
her habits, her hangouts, friends, enemies. Frank protests that Julie
has no enemies. Garcia thinks that's terrific but they have to cover
all the bases. People run away because they want to be with
someone or they want to escape a traumatic or stressful situation.
Does either of those ring a bell. Everyone except Nicole hears
a loud *ding*dong*.

Scariest Moment - Matt's overwhelming concern for Julie.

In the Cooper basement, Greg is cutting apart a photograph.
He asks Julie if she believes in perfection. She does not. He
declares that only God can create, but a Doctor can perfect.
He can take from the best to form the ideal. Apparently Greg
has been going through the family photo albums. He's taken
Aunt Angela's eyes, his mother's nose, Cousins Tali's and
Maggie's cheekbones, and his ex-girlfriend Georgia's lips to create
the "new Julie". He shows Julie the picture he has pasted
together and she is horrified. She says the picture is a mess and
he says it's perfection. He takes an instrument from the table.

Scariest Moment - Imagining why Georgia is no longer in the picture.

Karen at the Halloween Party does a drum roll with her hands
on the table and asks if the kids are ready. She starts the music
for a game of musical chairs. Gail comes in the room dressed
as a cat. She tells Karen to go get some refreshments while
she takes care of things there. Karen goes into the entrance
hall where Joe is putting out candy for the trick-or-treaters.
Joe asks Karen if her decision to get a lawyer/divorce wasn't
rather sudden. After a talk with Matt, she decided she had to
make a decision and this was it. She loved Jagger, but the past
is past, the present is present and the future is future or something
deep like that. She's glad Joe backed off and let her make the
decision on her own. He's happy for her. Scotty bursts through
the front door, social worker in his wake. He runs into the living
room where Serena leaps into his arms and they hug.

Scariest Moment - Nothing between Karen and Joe now, but a loincloth.

Garcia proceeds to interview each of the potential witnesses/suspects
separately in the on-call room. Frank is first. Garcia wants to know
how long he's known Julie. Since her internship started, Frank tells
him. "I'm her landlord." Garcia wants to know the nature of their
relationship. "Dating," Frank says. "We're close." Frank reveals that
Julie has had problems recently. Garcia wants to know what kind.
"Family problems."

Scariest Moment - Realizing Frank and Garcia can't be on screen all the time.

Garcia's next interview is with Mrs. Devlin. She thinks their family
was close. Julie has never done anything without discussing it with
her parents. She's always been a responsible, straight A student (so
was Patty Hearst.) They've never had any reason to worry. Julie is
outgoing, honest and doesn't have any secrets.

Scariest Moment - The anticipation of Nicole's shocking disillusionment.

Garcia interviews Eve. She tells him Julie background was a secret.
She didn't even know Julie's name was Devlin until it became public
knowledge. Garcia wonders why Julie didn't tell her roommate. Eve
tells him they aren't roommates any more. Care to tell me why?" he
asks. "Care to? No." Garcia doesn't want to play games. (Darn!)
They both want to find Dr. Morris or is she covering for someone?
"No, it's not like that," she tells him. He wants to know what it is
like. She explains that Julie just found out that Bennett and Eve had
an affair.

Scariest Moment - Knowing all this affair stuff might mislead Garcia

Bennett is next. He admits that he and Julie just had a big argument.
"What about?" Garcia asks as if he didn't know. "About an affair I
had in the past with a med student," Bennett tells him. Garcia wants
to know who with. Bennett confesses that it was Eve.

Scariest Moment - Bennett being honest.

Nicole greets Eve near the nurses' station. Julie has told her how
close she and Eve are. Eve says they share a bond of long hour and
no sleep. "She told me about you and my husband," Mrs. Devlin
says inadvertently provocative. She means how Eve stood up to
Bennett on Julie's behalf. Eve says it was nothing. Bennett comes
into view and stands some distance away, obviously terrified at the
prospect of his wife in an intimate conversation with his ex-mistress.
Eve hope they find Julie soon. Mrs. Devlin sees her husband and
goes over to take his arm. As they walk past Eve, Bennett ignores
her. Eve walks away.

Scariest Moment - Bennett's clear thought that a vital part of his
anatomy was in imminent danger.

Matt comes out of the elevator with a stack of binders, which he
promptly hands to Grace. She sarcastically thanks him for adding
to her workload. He says, "so long paperwork, next stop, the
operating room." Grace says they're welcome to him. Grace goes
back to work. Ellen asks Matt for a moment of his time. She gives
him a package which she says isn't a gift, it's a tradition. He opens
it. It's a set of antique surgical instruments. They're just for
display only and preferably not in the waiting room, patients tend
to panic. She explains that they were given to her, before she
picked her specialty, and now that he was becoming a surgeon
it was appropriate that he should have them.

Scariest Moment - Guessing the next tradition.

Greg polishes up his own scalpel. He breathes on it and tells Julie
that it's been sanitized for her protection. Cooper's ideal picture
is resting on Julie's chest. Julie tells him she can't believe he's going
through with this. He can't believe that she doesn't think he's
serious. This is a dream he's had his whole life.

Scariest Moment - Remembering real-life operations on the
Learning Channel

Scott thinks that Serena is cute in her witch outfit, but thought
she was going as a little tramp. (A Spice Girl?) She thought
he was too. (Oh, he meant Chaplin.) Since they couldn't be
together she didn't want to do that. She loves being with
Grandma, but she wants to come home. He says she will. She
wants to know when. When he has the mess straightened out.
It's no fun sliding down the fire pole without her. He promises
to make it like it was before. She asks if he wants to see her
trick-or-treat bag. He does. When she runs off Lucy (dressed
as a devil) approaches. Kevin (an angel) goes off in the other
direction. Lucy asks how the visit is going. It's kind of "weird"
to have a limited, supervised visit. (Not supervised enough,
apparently.) Scott tells Lucy and Gail that Danielle and Rex
have filed suit to gain custody of Serena. Serena overhears them
discussing it. She realizes that Daddy thinks he might lose
custody of her. Lucy sees Serena and shushes the conversation.
Serena has put a homemade mask on her face. She says she
made it for her Daddy. He asks if it's supposed to be him. (And
indeed it has the same buzz cut.) She hands it to him to look at
and then a little girl dressed as Pocahantos comes up to whisper
something in Serena's ear. Karen asks Scott to help her with the
party favors. The doorbell rings and Gail goes to answer it. It's
more trick-or-treaters. Joe has fallen down on the job and there
is no candy for the trick-or-treaters. Gail turns her back on the door.
As she calls for Joe to bring more candy, Serena slips past her and
out the door.

Scariest moment - Wondering what Joe did with all that candy.

Gail, Lucy Joe and Kevin approach Scott. Scott asks where
Serena is. They thought she was with him. Last he saw, Serena
was talking with Pocahantos. Lucy suggests they ask the kids
where Serena is. Gail wonders if she could have gone outside
with the trick-or-treaters. Scott says she knows better. Vapid
Karen suggests that Serena is playing hide and seek. Kevin
reassures everyone that they will find Serena. (What is he?
Her Guardian Angel?) Cut to Serena, who is outside in some
bushes crying.

Scariest Moment - Serena at large.

In the Hospital Lounge Frank hands out flyers to all the interns.
They offer a hundred thousand dollars for information leading
to Julie. (Hey, Frank we know where she is. She's in Cooper's
basement. Send us the check.) Frank says everyone should put
their differences aside and help find Julie before it's too late.

Scariest Moment - Chris genuinely concerned.

Greg holds Julie by the chin. She struggles and asks what he's
doing. He shows her that he just has a grease pencil. He
demonstrates on himself, marking his cheekbones. He tells
her he's just marking the incisions. He puts a line under her
eye and says this must be done delicately. He's working
on a masterpiece. He tells her not to tremble, not to be afraid
because she's in good hands. Julie is unconvinced.

Scariest Moment - Picturing Julie with Michael Jackson's face.

for that tree, Joe.)
