From: rika1@mindspring.com (Rika) Subject: PC: Update, Tuesday, 11/11/97 Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 01:20:41 GMT X-Server-Date: 15 Nov 1997 01:22:25 GMT PORT CHARLES UPDATE Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997 TODAY'S STORYLINES: ------------------- * Gotcha! * My Heart is In Your Hands * Everybody Knows, But Nobody Knows that Everybody Knows GOTCHA! ------- Snidely Whiplash - oops, I mean Rex - is on the phone with DeLuka, the private eye he hired to follow Scott. DeLuka is at the airport, and he reports that Scott is preparing to board a plane for the Caymans. Rex wants to hear about it the instant the plane takes off. He hangs up, and Danielle asks what's up. Rex explains that this is "the final nail driven in Baldwin's coffin," and explains about Scott's plans to leave the country. Danielle points out that Scott's not supposed to leave the country, given that he's out on bail and all. Bingo - nothing gets past Our Danielle. Rex will see that the authorities in the Caymans grab Scott, and then his bail will be revoked. Meanwhile, at the airport, DeLuka eavesdrops on Scott and the pilot. DeLuka prepares to leave, but before he gets a chance, Kevin grabs him and utters the immortal phrase which FINALLY turns this storyline into a competition instead of an uncontested walkover - "Gotcha!" (As Kevin says next, and he's so right, "The fun is just beginning.") Lucy merely looks on, smiling. Scott questions DeLuka, who tries the "I'm just here to catch a plane" gambit, but Scott's not buying any. Scott asks Kevin and Lucy to give him a moment alone with DeLuka; Kevin asks if Scott is sure he can control his temper. Scott says he'll try, and Lucy wishes DeLuka good luck. Scott then tells DeLuka that he isn't working for Rex anymore. While DeLuka has been following Scott, the Lighthouse/Firehouse Gang has been doing some research on DeLuka. They've got lots of incriminating stuff on him. DeLuka resists at first, but a few threats from Scott turn him around. Kevin and Lucy come back, and Kevin remarks, "Ah, see, I told you he'd be fine - no blood." Then Kevin and Lucy begin to say their goodbyes, and we learn that it is Kevin, and not Scott, who is off to the Caymans. Lucy will follow Kevin down there soon, but first she has to meet with Brenda. They kiss goodbye, and Lucy nearly decides to ditch Brenda and hop on the plane with Kevin (that would certainly have been my choice). He assures her that he'll be waiting for her, and she begs him to be careful, because Rex is an "evil man." Kevin says goodbye to Scott, and Lucy walks Kevin out to the plane. Scott explains to DeLuka that he plans to turn the tables on Rex. DeLuka asks for assurance that he will be well paid; Scott agrees. The next time we see DeLuka, he's with Rex, feeding him false information. He tells Rex that Scott decided to cancel his trip because Lee Baldwin convinced him not to violate his bail. Rex tells DeLuka to go back to watching Scott; DeLuka promises to call if anything happens. A little later, Rex is drinking tea (with a plate of scones nearby) when the phone rings. It's Scott, asking Rex if he is aware that scones can be dangerous to one's health. He suggests that *maybe* there is something hallucinogenic in the scones. Scott's parting shot before hanging up is to remark that Rex's chef "makes a wonderful vichyssoise - he works for me now." Rex hangs up and eyes the scones suspiciously. "He's bluffing," he says to himself, but obviously he's not too sure because he calls the chef (Andre) into the room. Danielle observes the scene which follows. Rex cuts a scone in half and spreads jam on it as he asks Andre if he knows Scott Baldwin. Andre merely says that the name sounds familiar; he watches closely as Rex holds, but does not eat, the scone. As Andre begins to leaves the room, Rex calls him back, crushes the scone in his hand (getting jam all over the sleeve of his suit), and fires Andre. Meanwhile, Kevin arrives in his hotel room in the Caymans. (It looks okay, but couldn't Scott have sprung for a luxury suite?) Kevin stretches out on the bed, propping pillows behind his head, and calls Lucy. Just about the time she answers the phone, Kevin notices a very large, forbidding-looking lizard lounging on the bed next to him. A shaken Kevin remarks to Lucy, "Why can't Rex be like everyone else and just send a bowl of fruit?" He explains to Lucy that "the nastiest lizard you ever saw is wondering how I'd taste." Lucy tells him not to move, but just then there's a knock at the door. Kevin promises to call Lucy right back, hangs up, and stumbles over to open the door. A little boy who introduces himself as Ricky, the son of the hotel's owner, is standing there. He has lost his pet. Kevin interrupts him to explain about the ferocious lizard on the bed, but Ricky calls out, "Gunther!" Gunther, we learn, is the lizard's name, and he is Ricky's missing pet. Kevin turns down the chance to pet the lizard on the grounds that "Gunther and I have already spent some quality time together." Ricky and Gunther depart; Kevin sags against the door, muttering to himself, "Scott's right - we're giving Rex way too much credit." Back in Port Charles, Rex throws open his patio doors and finds DeLuka skulking outside. DeLuka explains that "I work for Scott Baldwin now." (What a waste of a chance to play with Rex's mind on a regular basis, along the lines of the scones! I thought Scott had more imagination than that.) DeLuka departs after offering a message from Scott: "Have a nice day." Rex stomps back into the house and tells a snickering Danielle, "Not a word." In one of her finest moments since the show started, she responds, "Can I laugh instead?" Rex is not amused, but your updater is. Back at the firehouse, Scott talks to the reporter who wrote the nasty article about him. He offers the reporter "a better story than the one you made up." She agrees to listen. MY HEART IS IN YOUR HANDS ------------------------- It's Matt's big day - his first time assisting in surgery. The procedure is a coronary bypass to be performed by Monica Quartermaine. Matt wheels into the OR in his standing chair, thus contaminating his presumably-scrubbed hands by placing them on the chair arms. (Or, who knows, maybe the chair was Sanitized For Your Protection). He is then gloved in the OR and the chair raises him to a standing position. Monica offers him the opportunity to make the initial incision, and he replies, "Let's rock and roll!" When we rejoin them, the bypass is done, but they're having some trouble with a bleeder. Monica allows Matt to handle it. Most interns spend their first time assisting in surgery holding retractors, but Matt Harmon, Intern Extraordinaire, is "in the zone" - he's performing like a pro repairing the bleeder, and he is on Cloud 9. (Mitch Longley was outstanding in these scenes, conveying all sorts of emotions with half of his face covered by a mask). Monica is clearly impressed, and Ellen (who is observing the operation) is also pleased with Matt's work. Later, after the OR has been cleaned up, Matt comes back into the room and looks around. Ellen joins him and tells him, "You did good." She leaves, and Matt says to himself, "Yeah. I did good." EVERYBODY KNOWS, BUT NOBODY KNOWS THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS ------------------------------------------------------ We see Frank serving Julie breakfast in the Scanlon kitchen. She thanks him for spending the night with her (in her apartment, I suppose, since she'd hardly thank him for staying upstairs in his own house....). He plans to spend all day with her too. She tells him she's fine, but he assures her that he has vacation days coming to him, so he'll take the day off. Julie tells Frank some of what Cooper said and did, including his plan to perform plastic surgery on Julie. She becomes upset as she tells the story; Frank comforts her, and they wind up kissing. Bennett arrives, embarrassed at what he interrupted. He pulls a check out of his pocket and hands it to Frank - it's the $100,000 reward for Julie's safe return. Frank refuses the check - he didn't rescue Julie for money. Bennett says he has his pride too: he promised the reward, and he intends to keep his word. Frank suggests a compromise - donate the money to the Dominique Baldwin Pediatric Aids wing at the hospital. Bennett is about to argue, but Julie forestalls him by endorsing the idea, so Bennett agrees. Frank leaves. Bennett tells Julie how frightened he was while she was missing. Not only that, but he hated that their last contact beforehand was an argument over his affair with Eve. She assures him that he is forgiven, and that she isn't going to tell Nicole. Bennett tries to tell her that Nicole already knows, but before he gets the chance, Julie explains that alls he wants now is a happy family. Determined to give her what she wants, Bennett simply hugs her. Julie decides to call Nicole. Bennett has to do a quick song and dance to explain why Nicole has her own room at the PC Hotel; he comes up with a lame story about Nicole having a cold, but Julie buys it (big surprise there...). Julie invites Nicole to dinner. Nicole agrees, and then asks to speak to Bennett. With him, she is cold - she tells him she will be pleasant for Julie's sake (since she doesn't know that Julie knows about Bennett's affair), but "this changes nothing between us." She hangs up on him; he pretends she is still on the phone (for Julie's benefit) and says, "I love you too, darling - goodbye." -------------- by Rika, Tuesday updater
