Port Charles Update, Wednesday, 26 November 1997

I've been off-line for over a week as I was at a conference in San
Francisco and then have been busy catching up (with both the soaps and
ratsa). In California, I had the opportunity to meet a couple of
ratsafarians for real, which was pretty cool. Thanks to Karen for (I
presume!) doing last week's update for me.

Happy American Turkey Day from a Canadian ratsafarian!

Wednesday's update:

It was a pretty slow day in PC, so this is quite a brief update.

Chris and Eve are at Chris's apartment. Eve is on her way out for
the-day-before-Thanksgiving feast at the lighthouse. Chris is staying
home to watch an old movie to get psyched for Xmas (Miracle on 34th
Street). Eve leaves. Chris promptly calls Nicole and suggests she
joins him for a movie.

Serena and Karen arrive at the firehouse with the social worker and the
social worker's son. Serena is impressed by the kid's ability to burp
on demand. Scott has nicely fixed up the firehouse for the day Serena
will be returned to him.

Lucy and Kevin at the lighthouse. Lucy thinks Kevin has eaten half of
their supply of new age fertility enhancers. Kevin says he didn't have
them. Lucy ponders where they could be, but the flower arrangements
seem to be more pressing at the moment. This is the anniversary of
Sigmund joining her family, so she has a present for him. Sigmund comes
into the house, and Lucy feeds him a special salad she made for him.
Kevin finds out Lucy has made a vegetarian meal so as not to upset
Sigmund by feeding the guests a T-U-R-K-E-Y. Kevin is not impressed by
this news.

Eve comes back to Chris's as she forgot a pair of candles (shaped like
Puritans — Chris has quite the chuckle over Eve and Puritans) that she
has for Serena. Chris is rushing her out the door. Eve leaves and
Nicole arrives. Chris and Nicole flirt. She makes disparaging remarks
about her age; he tells her not to fish for compliments.

At the lighthouse, the extended family of Serena is present: Karen and
her mom, Scott and Eve, Lucy and Kevin, Lee and Gail and Sigmund, the
social worker and her son. Serena finds out about the vegetarian
dinner. She waxes poetic about the turkey dinners she and her dad
shared in Canada (on Canadian thanksgiving in October, I presume).
Serena is not happy that vegetables don't have wishbones. Scott is not
happy there is no turkey either. Lucy and Scott decide to order a
turkey from Ruby.

Chris and Nicole finish watching the movie. I lose sound on the TV at
about this point. Chris is rubbing Nicole's shoulders. I can't hear
them, but they don't look unhappy.

The turkey's arrived. The placecards on the table are ones that Karen
has taught Serena to make that Karen learned from her mom. Karen and
her mom share a hug over this. Serena is happy because she is going to
NY to see the big parade.

The extended family sits. Serena wants grace said. Scott suggests
Kevin do it, it's his house. Kevin defers to Scott. Scott is thankful
for the blessings of family and friends and knows that soon Serena will
be returned to him.

Kevin starts carving the turkey. There is a distressed honking from
under the table. Lucy tries to calm him down — she thinks he is upset
over the turkey. But it turns out that Sigmund's laid an egg!

Lucy panics. She wants Eve and Karen to recommend what to do with the
egg. Suggestions of sunnyside up are made. Lucy wants the name of a
good duck vet. Sigmund proceeds to fly out the skylight (which Lucy
seems to be surprised they actually have!). Lucy shoos everyone out to
go find Sigmund. They are not happy to have their dinner interrupted.

Chris and Nicole are still at Chris's. Nicole suggests some exercise
instead of being a couch potato. Chris suggests a jog. Nicole is not
dressed for a jog. They decide on an alternate form of exercise, and
start kissing.

The lighthouse crew is outside at the duck pond looking for Sigmund. It
turns out Sigmund is not Sigmund! He, his girlfriend and assorted
ducklings are at the pond. Obviously, his girlfriend was the one who
laid the egg in a case of mistaken identity. This is surprising, as it
is not the time of year for ducklings. Serena wants a duckling, but
Scott discourages her, saying there is no pond at the firehouse. Eve
suggests a dalmation instead; Scott doesn't look impressed with the
suggestion. I have to agree with Eve — a dalmation would be too cute
for words! Lucy surmises that Sigmund's girlfriend ate the new age
drugs. Lucy takes hope from this — they may work for her and Kevin as
well and next Thanksgiving they may have their own little duckling.

There are hugs all around. Serena says this is the best Thanksgiving
ever — turkey and ducklings. Lucy says it is the best
day-before-Thanksgiving because Serena is there.

Enjoy your turkeys (or your vegetarian meal if you prefer otherwise)!
