Port Charles - Friday Update -December 12th 1997
(posted and e-mailed)

PORT CHARLES - MULTIPLE CHOICE

In her office Ellen is going over intern evaluations. Kevin knocks
politely. She tells him to come in. Kevin sees Ellen slaving away
and tells her she's a poster child for over achievers anonymous.
(What? Matt's given up the post?) Despite the ribbing she's glad
to see him. He says he's there to start therapy sessions with one
of the interns she's evaluating. Ellen wants to know which of them
was smart enough to take her advise. "Eve Lambert," he says.
Ellen is surprised. Kevin wants to know if the offer to use her
office is still open. "Certainly," Ellen tells him. Eve enters looking
for Kevin. She hurriedly apologizes and starts to back out the door
whne she see Ellen. "Please stay," Ellen tells her. She's just heard
Eve will be starting sessions with Dr. Collins. Eve's embarrassed.
"Yeah, well, he's paying me to do it." Ellen tells her that she's
impressed. The first year of an internship is very difficult and
therapy can help. Eve notices Ellen's paper work and wants to
know if those are the dreaded evaluations and if they're finished.
"Yes," and "Some," Ellen replies. She thinks Eve's being a little
too inquisitive. "You know the CIA teaches its personnell to read
papers upside down on a desk," she says teasingly. Ellen tells Eve
she can read he evaluation once it's in her file. Ellen tells her not
to worry too much about it. Starting sessions with Kevin counts for
brownie points, Ellen informs he. She leaves. "Brownie points?"
says Kevin. "Ooooh," says Eve. Pleased by the little extra bonus.

Your Chief Resident thinks you should get some therapy. Do you
A) Get it when it's necessary for a convoluted plot?
B) Try to sleep with your Chief Resident?
C) Try to sleep with another intern?
D) Have a nervous breakdown?

Outside the courtroom Scotty, Lee and Gail are discussing the case.
Lee thinks the prosecution has been good at smearing Scott. (Well,
that's a no brainer really.) "I should have joined the boy scouts when
I was a kid," he quips. Lee chuckles. "You a boy scout? It boggles
the mind." Scott thinks his past is haunting him. FBI Agent Conklin
walks out of the courtroom. "I bet he made it all the way up to being
an eagle scout," Scott says bitterly. Lee and Gail try to calm Scott as
he starts to whine about Conklin. "Rex did a number on him," Lee
says. "But don't worry will get Mr. Stanton yet." Scott's not so sure.
"I got a news flash for you. Conklin works for the FBI. If he bought
this fairy tale what do you think the jury's going to think?"

You've been accused of your own daughter's kidnaping. Do you
A) Leave the country and say "To hell with this."?
B) Entirely overlook any evidence that might clear you?
C) Hire amateurs to investigate?
D) Act like an hysterical boob at every opportunity?

Moments later, Joe walks out of the courtroom and bends over the
water fountain to get a drink. Gail walks in carrying two cups of
coffee. She gives a cup to Lee. She wants to know where Lucy and
Kevin are. Lucy's at a photo shoot, Scott informs her and he doesn't
know where Kevin is. Lee has heard the couple aren't getting along.
Gail thinks Lucy has been under a lot of stress. Scott says Lucy is
stress. Lee is sorry Kevin's not there to support them. Karen and
Joe walk in. Scott says they have family there to support him. He
goes over to hug Karen. She says they can't stay long. Scott walks
back to Lee and Gail. Joe and Karen discuss Scotty's state of mind.
Jake comes in closely followed by Rex. "I wish I had killed him,"
Jake mutters to Joe and Karen. They seem a little uncomfortable
with the remark. "Just a wish," he quickly reassures them. "Don't
worry about it." On the other side of the courtroom Scott fumes as
Rex enters. "Well, there he is," says Scott. "Don't look at him,"
Lee advises. Scotty says he's tempted to go get Serena and fly off
to some island. Gail says if he did that he could never come back.
Scott wants to know if that would be so bad. (Well, would it?) Lee
says eventually they'd catch him and then they'd be right back at
square one. Scott says they'd have to drag him off the island. "Give
me a break," Lee tells him. "I've been known to win some cases in
my time." He's gotta win this one, Scott tells him, because he's not
going to lose his daughter to "that little freak of nature over there."

You really want to kill evil Uncle Rex. Do you
A) Hire a professional?
B) Just pretend to shoot at him and get him really ticked off?
C) Slip him a combination of digitoxin and quinobarbitol in his
     scones?
D) Set Lucy on him?

Back in Ellen's office Eve is wondering aloud why she agreed to
meet with Kevin. "I believe it was to help Scott," Kevin says
reasonably. She knows that, but she's worried that everyone will
think she's having a nervous breakdown. "I need to have my head
examined," she groans. "That's what I'm here for," Kevin jokes.
"Besides it's a good cover." She just wants him to know she doesn't
really need all that "shrink stuff." "Fine," says Kevin, but they have
to establish a pattern of seeing each other so Eve can act as the link
between him, Scott and Lucy as the plan progresses. Eve gets
excited. "Ooooh, I like that. Eve Lambert: co-conspirator." Kevin
tries to cool her ardour by reminding her what happened to Danielle.
"I'll be careful," Eve assures him and apologizes for joking at an
inapproriate moment. She doesn't want him to worry because she'll
do anything she can to help Scott. Kevin nods in agreement. So will
he and Lucy. "You're worried about her, aren't you?" Eve observes.
Kevin thinks Rex is a lunatic and Lucy can't afford to let her guard
down. Eve tells him not to worry where she concerned. It's the first
time anyone has ever trusted her and she's not going to blow it.

You want to be trusted. Do you
A) Perform your job well and not get in any trouble?
B) Conspire in a plan of highly dubious legality?
C) Sleep with your colleague's mother?
D) Frequently call in absent for personal reasons?

Back in court Agent Conklin is on the stand being questioned by
the prosecutor. Conklin implies that Scott made up the story about
Serena's kidnaping and was uncooperative during the investigation.
Scott and Lee both rise to object. The judge cautions Scott and
sustains Lee's objection that the prosecution is leading the witness.
Conklin complains that Scott wouldn't let them put out flyers at the
time even though they didn't know if the kidnaping was for money.
When the ransom note did arrive they thought it was suspicious
that a ten day waiting period was called for. During the waiting
period, he testifies, Scott paid the ransom with 5 Million dollars in
diamonds... without informing the FBI . The prosecutor pretends to
be aghast. "I had to keep it a secret." Scott tells the court room at
large. "That's what the kidnappers told me to do." He turns on the
FBI agent. "Tell the truth, Conklin. The kidnappers threatened to
kill my daughter." The judge calls him to order.

You want to keep Scott quiet in the court room. Do you
A) Remind him that his daughter's future is at stake?
B) Bang your gavel a lot?
C) Gag him?
D) Call Lucy to testify?

Julie is advising a couple of nurses on medication for some patients.
Her mother walks up behind her. She's impressed by her daughter's
professionalism. Nicole tells Julie she's very proud of her. She also
tells her she's going home. Julie says nothing's settled. Nicole is tired
of the turmoil. Julie thinks she may be avoiding the problem. Maybe
so, Nicole admits, but it's time that Julie got on with her life. Julie
wants to know if the divorce is still on. Nicole says she is going
through with it and in time Bennett will see the wisdom of the
decision. She tells Julie to remember that even if they don't love
each other anymore, they'll always love her. They hug. Bennett
lurks. Nicole goes to the elevator. Bennett swoops down on Julie.
"What did your mother want?" he asks. Julie tells him Nicole is
going back to Chicago. Bennett says she always runs away when
there's a problem. Julie tries to defend her mother. "I believe she's
running toward something: her own life." "That's ridiculous," says
Bennett. (Hey, Nicole, don't bother with the divorce, kill the
Bastard.) As Nicole waits for the elevator, it opens to reveal Chris.
He glares at her. "Chris," she says softly. "I'm sorry." He stalks
past her. Bennett tells Julie she should have asked her mother to
stay. "You can't cure the patient if you let him check out of the
hospital," he says. Julie is understandably exasperated. "If you
want to be a good doctor, you remember that," he tells her cruelly.
Ellen hears the last bit of the confrontation and approches Julie.
She tells Julie she's concentrating too much on her family problems
and not enough on her work. Ellen thinks she should be more
conscientious. She leaves. Chris and Eve walk up chatting. Chris is
giving her a hard time about seeing Kevin. She teases him good-
naturedly, saying the one wacko intern Kevin really wants to see is
Chris. "Yeah, he said you needed to come and see him before you
lose yourself to your darkside." Chris smirks. Eve sees Julie and
goes over to tell her about a change she made in a patient's medic-
ation. Julie goes ballistic, blaming Eve for the break-up of her
parents marriage and now trying to ruin her career. Eve and Chris
are astonished. "Jules, relax," Chris tells her. "It's okay." She
turns on him. "You two deserve each other. What a matched set.
Immoral losers." Eve tells her to get a grip. "You're losing it big
time. And not just your family, your career too." Eve walks away.
Julie fumes. "I had a life until she ruined it." Chris tries to calm
her. "Get away from me," she snaps. "I thought you were my friend."
Chris tells her for once Eve was right. Ellen hears the ruckus and
comes to investigate. Chris tries to cover, but Ellen's not having
any. She reprimands them and leaves. Chris is fed up with Devlins.
"Next time you decide to throw a hissy fit you leave me out of it,"
he tells Julie.

Your colleague is having a really bad day. Do you
A) Sympathize and advise her to get some counseling?
B) Offer her a place to stay and then rescind the invitation?
C) Neck with her on the patio?
D) Tell her superiors that she's under too much stress to function?

Joe and Karen come into the interns' lounge. Eve asks how it went
in court. "Horrible," Karen tells her and, for the benefit of those of
you who may have tuned in late, she and Joe give Eve the gory
details. After they're finished, Karen thinks Eve should cheer her up.
Eve tells them she's started therapy with Kevin. The news does get
a laugh. Karen wants to know why. Eve claims to be brown-nosing.
Joe wants to know the real reason. "It will make an honest woman
out of me," she says. Joe and Karen laugh again. Eve says it's
really Julie who needs the therapy.. She tells them Julie threw a fit
at her and Chris in front of Burgess. "Right before evaluations,"
Karen says shaking her head. Eve says evaluations will make them
all feel like they're on trial.

You're coming up on six month evaluation time. Do you
A) Shape up?
B) Take an extended leave of absence to mourn your girlfriend's
   death?
C) Bribe the board with beefstick?
D) Whine incessantly?

Lee cross-examines Conklin. He questions him about Scott's
alleged uncooperativeness. "Does the FBI always go public with
kidnaping cases?" Conklin admits that they don't if the victim's
life is endangered. Lee wants to know if Scott's attitude could
possibly have been that of a parent being bullied into compliance?
"Possibly," Conklin says reluctantly. Lee asks if Scott's "contrary"
behavior could have been that of a worried parent. Conklin is
belligerently hostile. "Mr. Baldwin was secretive and erratic. His
behavior was consistent with that of a drug user." Lee moves to
strike and the judge cautions Conklin. Conklin says he's not just
speculating. They have evidence that Scott is an habitual drug user.
Rex smiles gleefully in the back of the courtroom. Lee objects.
Scott stands up. "Somebody slipped me a mickey," he yells. "I've
never done any drugs. I'm a parent."

You are one of Scott's jurors. Do you
A) Think Scott is merely an idiot?
B) Wish Lucy Coe would grace the courtroom with her presence?
C) Think Rex is a "little freak of nature"?
D) Wonder when lunch break is?
