Port Charles Update
December 16, 1997

We start with Frank and Julie having dinner by a fire. They're quiet...
Julie is stressing out about the impending 6 month evaluations. Frank
tries to reassure her, but she feels that she started off well but has
been going downhill. He gives her hot chocolate with whipped cream and
when she gets some on her face (I think that flash in the corner of the
screen was the photographer for the Got Milk? campaign) proceeds to lick
it off (ha ha... no he didn't really *lick* it off... but I *did* plant an
unsettling image in your mind, didn't I? ;) ). Anyway, they're starting
to get a little snuggly when Joe barges in, complaining about the cold,
and proceeds to flip on the tv to watch a game.

Eve, in a particularly fetching dress, is playing house at Chris's. She
welcomes him home with a home cooked dinner and martinis. But Dr. Chris
"Hi Honey, I'm home" Ramsey is no fool... he figures something is up.
While Chris is cynical, Eve swears it's just that Christmas is putting her
in a holiday mood.

Rhonda shows up at Scotty's place with her subpoena to show up in court
and testify against him. She is scared that if she goes and tells the
truth, he'll never get out of this mess. But Scotty insists that telling
the truth is the only way to play it.

Joe finally gets the hint at home that Frank and Julie want to warm
themselves up without him around and takes off for Karen's to help her
decorate their tree (thought it was cute he referred to it as *our
tree*.) Frank and Julie rib him about about Joe and Karen's adventures on
the Nature Preserve.

Ooh... Chris has been hiding something all along? He gets a call from a
creditor... seems he's a bit behind on his car payments. Covers up with
Eve by saying it was a charity soliciting and that he told them he'd send
a donation through the mail.

Karen is fiddling with the tree when the doorbell rings. She goes to open
it and finds Serena and her classmates--they're out carolling. (I was
wondering why the camera shot on the door was so low... thought it was a
little odd they'd shoot Joe from that angle... unless Karen was feeling
particularly randy. ;) ) While the other kids and the chaperones/parents
(?) are getting cider, Karen and Serena have a little sister-to-sister
talk. Serena is upset about Daddy being in court. Karen agrees, but says
at least they're all together this year for Christmas. Joe shows up and
the kids all giggle as he and Karen kiss.

Joe fixes the angel at the top of the tree. The kids have all presumably
left (unless they're hiding behind the furniture to do a little more
giggling). They light the tree and ooh and aah. Joe oh-so-subtly backs
Karen up under the mistletoe and says this is going to be the best
Christmas ever. BUT turnabout is fair play and Frank interrupts with a
phone call. The furnace is broken and he and Julie are freezing... can
they please come over and crash?

More bantering between Eve and Chris. (Gotta say, Eve has totally gone
from my least favorite character on the show to one of my favorites. I
thought she and Julie were just written as extreme caricatures designed to
be opposites of each other in the beginning, but I think Eve has really
shown that she has a good heart and a lot of spunk [did I really use the
word spunk?] A lot more to her than originally met the eye... at least
mine. [/soapbox]) Talk about the fact that Eve really and truly did cook.
Then talk about evaluations and the Quartermaine residency.

Scotty's wrapping a stuffed elephant and looking less than pleased.
There's singing at the front door and he looks about ready to tear off
someone's head until he opens the door and sees Serena and her friends
carolling. He hugs her (and squeezes her and calls her George) tight and
asks the kids to sing the song again. You get the feeling he'd have them
sing all night if he could just so he could spend the time with Serena. :(

Julie and Frank show up at Karen's place with their sleeping bags. Looks
like a slumber party! The landlady comes down and suggests some hotter
music. (This seemed a bit forced to me... something must be coming up
that involves her). The group basically hangs out, does some dancing, has
some fun.

The philosophy of Christmas trees. Eve is bothered by Chris's Christmas
tree... ie, why black ornaments? Chris says it's basically an extension
of his personal style.. then Eve puts her finger on it, the tree is lonely
and austere. Chris says Christmas is really just another day, but Eve
talks about how she wants excitement and magic. Chris says he didn't know
Eve was such a closet romantic, but when she admits she is and practically
dares him to kiss her by talking about the wonderfulness of a movie
character (sorry, didn't write the title down :( Something with
Connecticut in it) just grabbing a woman and kissing her, he plants one on
her. This time she's not pissed and definitely kisses back. (The only
thing that really bothered me about this scene was after the kiss, when
they both looked a little bit stunned, the actress who plays Eve looked
more like Lisa Rinna than ever... and I really, really, really hate when
that happens).

All's well on Wexler Mountain. We start with a shot of Joe and Karen
snuggled up on the floor saying good night to each other. The shot widens
to include Frank and Julie. They say good night, too. I almost expected
it to widen a bit more and show the landlady! I almost wish Frank hadn't
actually said "Good Night John Boy" because I was already LMAO at the
Walton's music playing in the background and I thought the direct
reference was unnecessary. Oh well, cute all the same. :)

Scotty pulls out the telescope and starts talking to Dominique's star.
He thinks this Christmas is going to be a nightmare without Serena and and
worries about the toll the trial is taking on her. And since Dominique's
in the neighborhood, when Scotty wishes she was there to get them out of
this mess, she appears in the background behind him.

Fade to black and the commercial...

Have a great night! :)
