PC Update: Wednesday, 31 December 1997

This update is dedicated to Marguerite, who graciously has done the last
two Wednesday updates because my VCR was stolen and I couldn't tape.
Thanks, Marguerite!

When is a kiss not just a kiss...?

Scott is at the Firehall. He looks out the door and waves/salutes a
passing vehicle, looking wistful. He goes inside and calls Eve on her
cell. He wants help throwing a party and wants Eve to spend his money
to do the shopping. She agrees to help get the food for a party to be
held in only eight hours! Scott wants to fill the firehall with
people. Eve is going to max out his credit card and enjoy doing it!

Eve leaves the basement apartment and Julie enters, just as Frank comes
down the stairs. Julie informs Frank that Lark was gone before Julie
got up, probably to avoid any questions. Frank is concerned and vows to
find out what's going on at her house.

At the cabin, Joe wakes Karen. It's cold. Frank is excited, he wants
to go outside and play, while Karen is less than enthusiastic. Karen
dares him not to throw her outside, so of course he does, right into the
snow.

Lucy, in her hotel room, admires herself in the mirror. She calls Rex.
She wishes him a happy almost new year. Now that she's on the
"darkside", she is almost friendless. There is noone for her to ring in
the new year with; she suggests they toast it in together. Rex suggests
painting the town red. Lucy hangs up and gloats that her plan is
working.

Joe suggests that they get out of their wet clothes. But their other
clothes are wet because the roof leaked into the closet. Karen laments
that "there's no place like home". Karen tries to get out of her wet
clothes and into her sleeping bag, but her hands are too cold and
stiff. Joe has to help her. They tease he planned all this to get her
out of her clothes.

At Mario's restaurant, Lark is working. Frank enters and questions
Lark. He has gone by her house, but noone was home. Lark says her mom
was doing errands, but she has explained everything about the night
before to her — getting locked out, at least. Frank wonders if she told
her mom about her b&e. Lark's mom comes in. She wants to apologize to
Frank for what happened when she went out of town. Frank offers to be
available in future if assistance is needed. Lark and her mom go to
find Mario. It is obvious Frank still thinks something is up by the
look on his face.

Eve is at Scott's — she's got lots of goodies. At first, she pretends
to have caviar and the like, but it turns out she has hot dogs and
chips. Scott notices she's not wearing the bracelet he got her. She
says it's not for everyday wear and that she'll wear it tonight.

Rex is at Lucy's door. He's early, she's still in her robe. He has
roses with him. She goes to change. He apologizes, while making
himself comfortable on her bed, for being early. Lucy is dressed all in
red, and asks for zipper help as her dress is so tight. Her gown,
according to Rex, is stunning.

At the Firehall, the party is in full gear. Jake and Grace enter. Lee
wonders to Gail what's up with Scotty — the party is not like him. Gail
thinks that it is good for him. Chris enters. He has Eve's bracelet, a
momento of their night "together". She retrieves it. Rhonda wonders to
Scott how he got the party together without her, as she usually takes
care of such things for him. She goes to pass around the wings to the
guests. Chris and Eve are laughing together. Scott doesn't look too
happy about their interaction.

[With Karen and Joe at the cabin, Julie at home, Chris and Eve and Jake
and Matt at the party, one can only assume that there are no interns
working at GH tonight — I guess all the staff doctors must have been
magnanimous and given them all the night off. Yeah, right.]

Julie and Frank are dedecorating the tree. Julie thinks he's
remarkable, always helping people. He says he can be selfish too — he
wants Julie all to himself. They kiss.

At the cabin, Joe and Karen talk about how people "click"; Joe thinks it
is due to sex (chemistry and molecules to be exact). They are sitting
mostly unclothed in their sleeping bags in front of the fire. He
remembers the first time he saw Karen, when they were kids playing Marco
Polo when she was it. He had an electrical surge at the time. They
reminisce. Joe has kept a candy wrapper of hers. It is fate that they
found each other. They *kiss*.

Lucy and Rex are barhopping. Lucy has always wanted to see the ball
drop in Times Square. He's been there, done that, nothing exciting.
Lucy tries to pry about his time in NY; Rex is elusive in his answers.
Rex suggests going back to Lucy's room, ordering champagne and watching
the ball drop on TV. Lucy agrees; afterall, he's been a perfect
gentleman in all of their time together.

Kevin is in disguise at the hotel. He enters Lucy's room. He comments
about the bed's mussed sheets and the poor housekeeping. He has
champagne and wonders where Lucy is.

Joe and Karen are on the floor in front of the fire. He's on top.
They're *kiss*ing. He wants to make love, so does she. Oops! No
condoms, since he thought they were going slow [although Karen seems
surprised he doesn't have any — couldn't she have brought them if she
thought she might have need of some?] It's almost midnight. They have
sugarbabies.

Julie and Frank are also on the floor. She breaks the mood, saying it's
almost midnight and she has an early shift. He is upset she is always
slowing things down. She doesn't want him to think she wants things to
be serious. She just had a bad evaluation and needs to concentrate on
her work. She wants them to agree to tell the other if they want it
more serious to avoid the other being hurt (she is assuming Frank is not
ready to get serious either). They *kiss*. He carries her up the
stairs.

At Scott's he warns that it is almost midnight. Grace wishes Jake a
better 1998. Ellen is talking to Matt seriously about his residency.
He interrupts and kisses her and wishes her a happy new year. She gets
up and leaves him. Grace comes over and plants one on Matt. {Poor
Grace, I think she's going to have a bruised heart from her
unreciprocated attraction to Matt.] Scott wishes Serena a happy new
year, also Gail. Gails says she parays it will be. Eve wishes Scott a
happy new year and gives him a chaste kiss. He grabs her and gives her
a *kiss*.

Kevin is wondering where Lucy is. She is outside her door with Rex. He
kisses her and wishes her a happy new year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
