From: rika1@mindspring.com (Rika) Subject: PC: Update, Thursday, 1/15/98 Date: Sun, 18 Jan 1998 02:42:54 GMT X-Server-Date: 18 Jan 1998 02:44:53 GMT PORT CHARLES UPDATE Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 TODAY'S STORYLINES: ------------------- * True(?) Confessions * "I Loved You That Much!" * Oak Park, Oakwood, Oak Something TRUE(?) CONFESSIONS ------------------- Karen is apparently asleep on the couch in the OCR; Joe comes in and awakens her. She has a hard time sleeping at home because things get "hot" when she closes her eyes. Joe leans in for a kiss, but Chris strolls in just then with big news. He was on the roof using his cell phone, and saw a cardiac patient up there in the cold, "going at it with his girlfriend." Joe figures it might have aerobic benefits. Chris asks Joe and Karen, "Where's the weirdest place you guys have ever done it?" Just then, Matt arrives and asks, "Done what?" When we return, Julie and Jake have joined the group, and Chris is asking who is going to be the first one to confess. Eve arrives, wondering if she's the only one who has work to do. Bit by bit, we get some confessions: Chris - in a bank vault with the lock on a timer Matt - in a hot air balloon Joe - claims to be a virgin Karen - refuses to tell - she is a "woman of mystery" Jake - in the front seat of a car, going through the car wash Eve - refuses to tell Julie - on a homecoming float While the confessions are going on, Karen and Joe exchange a lot of heated looks and find continual excuses to walk by one another and touch hands. We get a lot of close-ups of eyes, mouths, and hands. You get the idea. Audrey (Wow - when was the last time we saw HER on PC, other than in the opening credits?) arrives in the OCR to talk to Matt. Let's hope she arrived *after* the lovemaking discussion was over. Anyway, a syndicated columnist wants to do a story on Matt. Matt refuses; he doesn't want to discuss his private life. Chris, who overhears this, is obviously intrigued. Later, he asks Eve if she knows anything about Matt's background. He notes that Matt evades when anyone asks about his family. Eve figures Chris just wants to dig up dirt on Matt to bury him for the Q residency. (Good call.) A little later, Joe and Karen are alone in the OCR. Joe wants to make love; he starts kissing Karen's neck. Joe suggests that they take a shower - there's a lock on the door. He has condoms in his locker, his wallet, his house, his car.... so they're prepared. Karen agrees, and they grab each other and begin kissing. Just then, a repairman comes out of the shower. The pipes are broken, and he just shut off the water for the rest of the day. Later, Karen and Joe are about to go off duty. Karen suggests that he come back to her place - the water works in the shower there. Just as the giddy pair is about to leave, Ellen arrives in the OCR and tells them they have to work double shifts to cover for another doctor. (TPTB appear to be doing a variation of Kevin and Lucy's pre-lovemaking experiences, except that I'd be very surprised if they had the patience to string it out for three or four months as Claire Labine did with Kevin and Lucy.) "I LOVED YOU THAT MUCH!" ------------------------ Ellen comes in to check on Alice, who hasn't been eating. Alice offers the typical excuse - nasty hospital food. Alice changes the subject - "When are you going to tell me about Samuel?" An orderly arrives with Alice's meal, and Ellen replies, "After you clean your plate." Alice grumpily starts eating, and Ellen prepares to leave. Alice asks, "Where do you think you're going? I'm eating, so start talking." Ellen insists that Sam was a good husband. He had a good clerkship while in law school, with a job for him there after graduation. But he died of a brain hemorrhage before graduation. "Samuel was half my heart, my life, my family," she says tearfully. Alice wonders why Ellen didn't tell her about Sam when he died. Ellen explains that she tried to - she called from the hospital. It was in October. "October 27," Alice responds. "So you remember. You hung up on me," sobs Ellen. Alice replies, "Of course I remember the last time I heard my daughter's voice." After she hung up, Alice cried and cried. And then she removed every trace of Ellen from the house. "You hated me that much?" Ellen asks, incredulous. "I loved you that much!" cries Alice. Then, Ellen asks, why did Alice make her choose between Sam and her mother? Alice explains that she thought Ellen would make the choice she wanted her to make, that she wouldn't throw her future away. Ellen says the choice was agonizing, but she never considered giving up Sam. Exactly. Alice's eyes flash angrily as she retorts that she eventually realized that. Alice worked and sacrificed to give Ellen an excellent education, and then Ellen turned her back on her. Ellen points out that Alice's sacrifices weren't in vain - Ellen is a good doctor. "I hear that you are better than good!" Alice retorts. Ellen assures her that her work is everything to her - and it has to be, because it's all she has left. Audrey Hardy, the Goddess of Bad Timing, knocks and enters just at this moment. She asks to see Ellen in the hall and notes her tears. Ellen assures her that she's fine. Audrey asks Ellen to try to influence Matt to do the interview (see above). Ellen is reluctant - she believes in a separation of working and personal lives. But Audrey points out how much good it would do for other hospitals to know what doctors like Matt can accomplish. Ellen speaks to Matt about the interview, encouraging him to give the interview but to stick to details about his work. He refuses again, citing a backlog of paperwork. Ellen tells him not to let her push him into anything, but if his experiences could help even one person..... "That's pushing," Matt retorts. Ellen asks Matt to think about it, and leaves. OAK PARK, OAKWOOD, OAK SOMETHING -------------------------------- In the hospital lobby, Lucy is running along, pushing Eve towards the couch. Eve explains that she tried to warn Lucy about Rex the evening before; Lucy doesn't care about that. She wants Eve to set up a meeting where Lucy can show Scott and Kevin the papers she stole from Rex's safe. Eve refuses at first; she thinks it's too dangerous. Lucy, in a flood of Lucyspeak, tells Eve about her various perils the evening before. She can't see anything useful in the papers, but she wants Kevin and Scott to look them over. Meanwhile, Scott and Kevin are visiting Oak Park, the mental hospital the Serenity caretaker mentioned to them. Scott claims to be a relative of Rex's, pulling out a document stating that Rex has been declared incompetent, and that Scott is Rex's legal guardian. Kevin claims to be Rex's psychiatrist, and asks for copies of old treatment records. The hospital administrator, whose constant companion is evidently a bag of peanuts, says there's a problem - the copy machine has been broken "for months." Kevin motions to Scott to try a bribe, and Scott pulls out some bills. The administrator checks the computer - there's no record of Rex Stanton, nor of Gustaf Bausch Stanton. Kevin suggests that perhaps these records are too old to be in the computer, and the administrator agrees to check the archives in the basement. The administrator, toting his bag of peanuts, arrives back from the basement with the news that there are no files in either name in the basement. Scott, with characteristic charm, berates the man and calls him names until Kevin intervenes and injects some politeness into the exchange. Back at the Firehouse, Kevin, Lucy, and Scott are meeting. Lucy can't believe none of the three of them have come up with anything. Lucy wonders if the caretaker just made a mistake with the name of the place. Kevin recalls that there's another mental hospital in the area called Oakwood. Scott and Kevin rush out; Lucy tries to call after them, but they're in a hurry. She asks herself how she's supposed to get the papers back in Rex's safe. ------------ by Rika, Thursday updater
