Port Charles - Friday Update - January 23rd 1998
(posted and e-mailed)

At the sixth floor Nurses' station Jake is sitting at the desk doing
some paperwork. Julie bustles in and busily gathers up various
charts and papers. Jake asks her to slow down because it's making
him nauseous. She asks if he's been on call all night. He says he
has and can't even go home because he has to wait for the new
pediatric Doctor, whatsername? Eve and Chris are just walking
up to the desk. "Her name," Eve informs him, "is Doctor May
and she's not just any Doc, she's the head of pediatrics and the
new boss on our rotation, so if I were you I'd find some make-up
and cover up those dark circles under your eyes." Grace contradicts
her, "Bags under the eyes are like dirt under the fingernails; shows
you've been working." "I'd better start looking so good then,"
Chris jokes. The others groan. He leaves. Julie asks Grace what
she's heard about Doctor May. Grace tells them that she transferred
from Mercy (Home of the HMO Nuns) and makes Doctor Boardman
look like the Easter Bunny. (Wonderful image - What's he doing
April 12th.). "Oh great, a new reign of terror," says Eve. Grace tells
them not to make jokes. Doctor May hates jokes. Eve and Jake
both leave and Julie asks Grace is she's seen Joe or Karen. She
hasn't, but they came in early to get a jump start on rotation.

Joe brings Karen up on the roof. (And it doesn't look like it's the
rotation he wants to jump start.) She complains that it's freezing,
but he has an idea how they can stay warm. He kisses her. She
tells him he'll be disappointed because she's not going to be late
for the first meeting with the new head of pediatrics. Joe says
they have plenty of time.

Lucy and Rex enter a room. Lucy looks around and comments
that this is the salon and she thought that they had come to look
at end stand product displays to get idea for their new product
line. In one of his rare moments of honesty, Rex admits, "I lied."
He's brought Lucy there to look at wedding dresses. Lucy is
less than thrilled. She tells him she'd like to handle her own
wedding arrangements. He's tells her to leave all the planning to
him. "I may be getting married for the first time," he tells her,
"But this will definitely be your last wedding." The saleslady
displays a dress for Lucy.

Scott and Kevin are at the Lighthouse. Scott asks Kevin if
he's sure the hypnotism will work. Kevin says he's fairly sure.
Scott doesn't like only being fairly sure, and asks Kevin if he's
ever hypnotized a child before. Kevin says he hasn't. (What?!
A.J. doesn't count? ... oh chronological age, not level of maturity.)
Scott worries that Serena will be even more terrified by what they
dig up. Kevin insists this will just relax her and "If we're lucky
she'll be able to make a positive ID that Rex took her in the first
place." A knock comes on the door. It's Serena, Gail and the
ever-present social worker. Serena rushes over to give her Daddy
a hug. She asks if they can go down to the duck pond. Scott says
they can do that later on. Right now he and Kevin want to talk to
her about the dream she's been having.

Serena asks if they're going to look inside her head to see what
she's dreaming. Scotty reassures her that they are not going to cut
her head open or anything like that. "We're just going to make
you feel more relaxed," Kevin tells her. Serena asks if they can
make the dream stop. Scott says they're going to try. She says.
"Okay, if you want me to. First can I feed the ducks?" Scott looks
doubtful, but Kevin says, of course she can. Social Worker, Serena
and Gail go outside. Scott tells Kevin that he wasn't sure if Serena
should feed the ducks or just get into "this thing". Kevin points
out that it's hard to compete with baby ducks and he wants her to
feel as comfortable as possible.

Lucy tells Rex that this is making her very uncomfortable. He asks
if she still wants to marry him. She claims she does, but she doesn't
like being rushed this way. He wants the wedding to be perfect.
But she complains, "Why does everything have to move at the
speed of lightning." (Maybe because he can't be sure he won't want
to kill her again at any given moment.) He adjusts his tie in the
mirror. tuning out her protests. She wants everything to be perfect
too, but he doesn't know what he's getting into. Has he really
thought about what it would be like to spend every single day of
the rest of his life with her? Yes he has; everyday. "How sweet."
she grimaces. She tells him she has her own personal designer and
she'd like him to design her gown. He tells her that the bridal
consultant brought these in from the fashion shows in Paris. She
shows a second of reflexive interest in high fashion, the but thought
of her future groom is enough to put her off. She insists they're
rushing things. He insists she try on a couple of gowns.

Chris, alone at the Nurses' Station, is on the phone with Matt's
old high school. The lady he talks to tells him that Matt did attend
Bryson High for his Freshman and Sophomore years. He transferred
to a school in Idaho before his junior year. He tells her that the
Hospital is planning an award ceremony to honor Matt for his work
with the physically challenged. She tells him Matt's grades show he
was a terrific student. Eve walks up behind Chris. He asks for the
name of the High School Matt transferred to. Caldwell High in
Boise. Chris repeats that and writes it down. (Yep, mighty
suspicious, moving to Idaho.) He hangs up. Eve makes her
presence known. "You never quit do you?" She came back
because she knew he was up to something sneaky. "Do you
come with subtitles," he asks, "Because I have no idea what you're
talking about." She tells him he can't stand that Matt might have a
leg up on him for the Quartermaine Grant. He scoffs but she knows
that he's trying to find something to discredit Matt. He declares
that everybody has secrets that want to keep hidden. Sometimes the
past has a way of popping up all by itself.

Joe and Karen are still on the roof, but we don't see them at first
we just hear them... giggling. We hear her say, "That was pure
inspiration." "Making love on the rooftop?" he asks. "No,
making love by these heating vents," she says emerging from
behind them. He points out that they still have plenty of time before
the pediatric orientation. They'll be the first ones there. (Who
didn't see this coming?) They trot over to the door. Joe tries it, but
it's locked. Karen tries it too but it will definitely not open. "We
are dead," she predicts, "We are so dead."

Chris is on the phone with Matt's second high school. He tells
the man that they are honoring Dr. Harmon with a roast, a kind
of This is Your Life. (By the time Chris is done investigating
it'll be an Annual Ball in Matt's honor and a statue unveiling.)
The man tells him that Matt was shy and kept to himself, he
really only remembers him because he was in a wheelchair.
Chris asks if Matt wasn't an athlete prior to his skiing accident.
The man doesn't have any information prior to the transfer.
There's nothing else he can tell him. "Damn," Chris says as
he hangs up the phone. Ellen, Eve and Julie come out of the
elevator. Eve asks how Chris' research is going. He doesn't
answer. As Jake and Matt join them, Ellen gives a little speech
about the new Pediatric Doctor they'll have this rotation.
Ellen asks where Scanlon and Wexler are. "They should be here
any minute," Matt says helpfully. They better be.

Karen and Joe, shivering up on the roof. Are making snowballs
and tossing them on people below to attract attention. They
worry they'll be kicked out. Karen says she's going to aim
for the guy at the hot dog stand. "Don't hit the guy," Joe tells
her. "Just get his attention. I might be asking him for a job by
the end of the day." The roof door is opened by a janitor. Joe
leaps to the door to keep it from closing again. There had been
complaints about crazy kids on the roof throwing down snowballs.
That would be us, Karen admits. She kisses the janitor in gratitude
for rescuing them and she and Joe dash off leaving behind the
bewildered maintenance person.

Lucy is trying on one of the wedding dresses. Rex thinks it's
exquisite... or she is. He suggest she try on another. She
refuses. He asks which she likes best. She loved them all
but would rather have her own designer. Rex suggest they
pay the designer a visit as soon as possible. Lucy says no,
he's booked for months and months in advance. Rex insists
they pop by anyway, as soon as his tailor is done measuring
him for his wedding suit. His tailor has something regal in
mind. Lucy turns around and mutters, "How about a Colombian
bow tie?" (i.e. a cut throat.) "Did you day you wanted to pick
out my tie?" he asks. She claims she said, "This is so much fun I
could die.

Serena is on the love seat with Scott. She tells him she's not
scared. He tells he'll be right over here, and moves to the
couch. Kevin sits next to Serena. He tells her top lay back
and get comfy, close her eyes and take a nice deep breath
and the another and let it out slowly. Etc. When he's done
counting they'll see her dream together. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...

Joe and Karen rush out of the elevator. They ask Grace how
late they are. Grace points to where the other interns are. They've
already started. We see the interns looking at the new Doctor but
we don't see her. We hear her voice. "I see our two missing
interns have decided to join us. The only excuse I'll consider is
having sex." (Wow, she's good. Right first guess.) The interns
part and Dr. May emerges. She is a dark-skinned woman with
white bunny ears and a bunny nose. She shakes her finger at
Joe and Karen. "Now does that excuse apply to the two of you?"
Eve whispers to Matt that she's going to kill Grace for feeding
them horror stories about this fabulous Doctor. Dr. May tells
the interns that humor goes a long way in easing the anxieties of
a nine year old about to go to chemo. She extolls the virtues
of pediatrics. For Karen and Joe's benefit, she adds. "Never be
late for treating a child." She salutes them. She leads the interns
off and Joe says he feels like he's stepped through the looking
glass.

Rex examines his suit in the mirror. Lucy is practically asleep
in a nearby chair. Rex says that as soon as the tailor is done
they can go see her amazing designer. Lucy doesn't reply
and he calls her name. She tells him that her designer only sees
people by appointment. He suggests she call ahead. She
finally agrees. Rex admires his image in the mirror. He flashes
back to giving Lucy the Cayman Island photo, to her testimony
against Scott and to her taking a stress pill outside the courtroom.
He asks Lucy if she's been to the Barbados in February. He wants
a Valentine's wedding. Lucy looks nauseated.

Serena is curled up on the couch and telling about her dream.
She heard a man's voice, but only sometimes. He wasn't there
every day. Kevin asks her to tell him what she sees. "A tree."
The image of the black and white picture of the tree and white
fence appears in her mind. Is she outside, Kevin asks. No. They
put her in a room, when she looks through the keyhole she sees
a picture of a tree. Sometimes at night the tree had eyes between
the leaves. The adults look puzzled by Serena's perception. Kevin
asks if she ever saw the man she heard in the dream. She looked
through the keyhole and saw his hands and face. An image of
Rex appears against a dark background, turning slowly towards
her. "He's going to see me!" she says. "I'm afraid." Kevin asks
her to tell him what he looks like. "Brown hair and wears a suit."
Kevin tells her the man can't hurt her. He asks her if it's the same
man she met at the park with Lucy and Grandpa Lee, Gustav
Bausch, the same man she met at the lighthouse as Rex Stanton.
She is frightened that he's going to see her. Kevin insists the man
can't hurt her if she sees him. He will disappear. An image appears
of a man on a dark background, but this time it's not Rex. Serena
screams. "He sees me! He sees me!" Scott rushes to embrace her.
Kevin asks if it was Rex. She tells them no, it wasn't Rex. They
look puzzled and disappointed.
