Port Charles Update
March 31, 1998

Karen and Joe are talking about Robin and how it's so unbelievable that Tony
was the kidnapper. Eve comes in and tells Karen she's done turning all her
patients over to her. (Eve's got a new look going... I kind of like the new
haircut, but the tie thing with her dress was kind of weird). Joe is upset
that Eve got into trouble going out on a limb for them. Eve says it was
worth the risk. They're all glad Scott is starting up a new lab, but
frustrated at starting over again with their research. Eve demands that
they cheer up: "We will make this work." She says not to worry about her,
she's looking at the bright side--now she's got a lot of free time. Cue
Scott, who walks in as she's trying to figure out how to spend that time.
Karen gives him a list of supplies for the new lab and says how cool it is
that he's setting it up. He says "nobody messes with my daughter." Scott,
in bossy mode, grabs Eve's hand and drags her off with him. (One thing I
couldn't figure out here. Karen had a weird look on her face and I couldn't
determine if a) she's just generally worried about Eve; b) she isn't all
*that* comfortable with Eve and her dad as a couple; c) it really wasn't a
weird look at all and I'm reading into it.)

Chris sees Eve and Scott leaving in the elevator. Devlin comes up to talk
to him, congratulating him on the good luck that two major competitors for
the Quartermaine fellowship have fallen on hard times. Chris argues that he
didn't want Eve suspended. Devlin has a proposition for Chris: infiltrate
the new lab group and spy for him and he'll guarantee him the Quartermaine.
Chris wants more--a split of the any profits from the research. Devlin
reluctantly agrees: "It's all predicated on your being able to infiltrate
that group. And from what I hear, they don't like you very much at all."
Understatement, huh? ;)

Chris works up some righteous indignation and asks Julie why her father is
being such a jerk about Eve. He reminds her about the bad evaluations
Devlin gave them both and convinces her he's hot to help the other interns
against Devlin.

Scott and Eve go back to the firehouse where Eve is understandably cranky.
Gail reminds Eve that "hell hath no fury like a man who has been scorned."
As she tosses Scott an apple, he reminds her that it's actually a woman
scorned in the quote. Gail says it's the 90s and the tables have turned.
Serena comes in (home from school because of a teachers' workshop) and
proceeds to set the Happy Makers against Eve's foul mood. Eve is
apprehensive, but Serena gives her a big, huge hug--Happy Maker #1. Eve
says she feels better already, but passes on Happy Maker #2 when Scott
explains it involves stuffing as many marshmallows as possible in her mouth
and making her try to talk. Serena pulls out the stops for the last crazy
Baldwin Happy Maker--chocolate chip cookies. Eve asks where they are and
Serena informs her she has to *make* them and drags her off to the kitchen.

Jakes goes into the on-call room, where Joe is going through Eve's files.
They're both angry about Devlin. Jake opens his locker to find several
notes there from Lark. Joe asks about them and Jake calls them "reminders
of things I haven't gotten to yet" and dismisses them as outdated.

Kevin and Lucy get a delivery of Victor's things from the home. They decide
to unpack the stuff and sort through it for him. Lucy gets all excited at
the prospect of a secret formula to solve the world's greatest problems
hidden away in one of the boxes.

Julie approaches Devlin and offers a truce. When she brings up Jake and
Karen and Joe, he tells her if they're going to have a truce, they're going
to have to change the subject. She keeps him talking about Eve's suspension
as she tries to spy out a spare set of keys. She finds them and, as they
walk out, she grabs them from the wall. After Devlin walks away, Chris
shows up at her side.

Julie tells Karen she got the spare key to the lab. Karen doesn't t want
Julie to get involved, but Julie insists--and refuses to let Karen go with
her. Karen reluctantly tells her where to find the disk with their research
notes.

Kevin is a bit bemused that he doesn't really recognize any of Victor's
things: letters from people he doesn't know, pictures of people he doesn't
recognize, things that he guesses came from places like Vienna and Venice
but doesn't remember. Lucy talks about her childhood a little--how her aunt
would pile her and all her cousins into a bus to go travelling, but only
around their own state. Lucy would drink red soda and pretend it was the
most expensive wine. Kevin says he bets she was a wonderful little girl.
Lucy admits she was "spirited." She says it must have been fun to have all
this stuff around as a kid and Kevin says he just can't remember.

Mike comes to see Matt at the hospital. Matt tells him how glad he is that
Michael is safe. He asks Mike if he knows why Tony did it. Mike says he
doesn't, but that he'll be sorry he did. Mike says he heard about Mancusi,
Sr. coming to town. Matt admits it probably isn't over, but refuses to hide
anymore. He tells Mike that his father said it was Chris who tipped him off
to where Matt was. He adds that if Chris is dirty, he'll be very sorry he
messed with him.

Julie and Chris break into the lab. Julie questions Chris' motives, but he
convinces her he just wants to help. They find the disk under a microscope,
where Karen said they would. They deliver the disk to Joe and Karen, who
are surprised that Chris helped. They're convinced, sort of, by his
espoused animosity toward Devlin. They still look superstitious. As Chris
leaves, he says he'd like to be part of the project--just to see Devlin's
face when they beat him. They're still unsure of his motives and when Matt
comes in and they tell him what happened, he doubts Chris' sincerity.

Eve thank Scott for bringing her over and cheering her up. They have a
serious little "thanking" moment which turns into a mock argument over who
owes who more. Scott says they've got better things to do than talk about
who owes who what. Eve agrees and they get to the business at hand:
kissing! (And with the gust they always seem to have when they start making
out. ;) )

Lucy can't believe that Kevin can't remember any of the stuff from his
childhood. As he looks into a crystal ball type thing, he sees (what looks
like) someone stabbing with a knife.

Jake is leaving his apartment and finds Lark waiting outside for him. She
tries to convince him that they can continue to see each other, but he is
adamant. When she realizes that he doesn't love her, she's upset that he
went to bed with her. Then she gets angry: "Nobody treats me like this."
She says he'll do what she wants or she'll tell everybody what happened. He
says blackmail isn't going to work with him. He warns her that that won't
get her anywhere and recalls someone who he knew who got in way over her
head with blackmail. He says it's over between them: she should stop
leaving notes, stop flirting and stop coming by. She says he's being cold,
he says he's being kind. He says she's incredible--but needs to find
someone her own age. She gets ready to follow him out, but only after she
flips the latch on the inside of his door to unlock it.

fade to commercial....
