From: maclatch <maclatch@unbsj.ca> Subject: PC:Update, Wednesday, 09 April 1998 Date: Thu, 09 Apr 1998 08:45:06 -0300 PC Update Wednesday, 08 April 1998 This is going to be short, as I'm at work and my notes from the show are at home. So here goes from memory. Some of the scenes might be a little out of order. Joe and Julie are present as Grace tries to prepare Mary before she goes in to see Frank. Mary says she's a nurse, and has seen lots before. Joe reminds her that this is her son. Again, they try to warn her and to get her to take some time before going in, but she demands to go in now and does so. She holds Frank's hand and calls him "Frankie Sunshine" like she used to when he was a kid. His heart is strong, as indicated by the monitor, and she encourages him to keep fighting to get better. Joe has to leave the room, as he can't take it anymore. Scott and Eve visit Jake in the visiting room at the PC jail. Jake tells them that he didn't know that Lark was underage; she told him she was pre-med and that her name was Chlo‘. Scott says that would mean that there would be extenuating circumstances, and that he might be able to get Jake out of the charge for statutory rape. Jake is a little dismayed that his whole case rests on the shoulders of a girl in the psych ward at GH. Eve and Scott head over to GH to visit Lark. At GH, Lark is concerned about Frank. She wants to see him and seems genuinely concerned that he is hurt because of her. Lark fesses up to Eve and Scott that she never told Jake her age. However, she is still under the delusion that Frank got so upset about her and Jake because he was jealous ÷ it proved how much he loved her. Eve gets through to her that Frank doesn't love her that way, that he was only concerned about giving her a chance at life. Eve says nobody understands that she lies to cover up the horribleness of her life ÷ a father who left her, and a mother who was crazy. Eve says she understands about absent fathers, and that that's the role that Frank wanted to play in Lark's life. They do a deal ÷ Lark will tell a prosecutor the truth about Jake, and Scott and Eve will do their best to see that she stays out of juvy hall, a place that Lark refuses to go back to. Outside Lark's room, Scott and Eve meet up with Gail. Gail says that Lark has a lot of problems ÷ a psychotic mother, abandonment issues, and normal teenage angst. Gail doesn't believe she really wanted to kill herself, as she didn't fully recognize the consequences of her actions. Gail is going to recommend another 48 hours of observation, which fits in well with the plan Scott has to get a prosecutor over to see Lark. Gail hopes that Lark will end up somewhere safe after she is discharged. At the hospital, Bennet and Julie have a heart to heart. He calls Frank "her Frank", and admits that he has grown to respect Frank. Julie is pleased with her father's turn around, however, this reviewer knows that you can never believe a word out of that guy's mouth. Julie goes off to see Frank, as Joe wants to take Mary to the cafeteria. Devlin goes over to chat with Chris, hinting at him that he was quite clever in getting rid of yet another rival (Jake) for the Q fellowship. Devlin says his lab team is getting nowhere, and he wants Chris to infiltrate the interns' private lab ASAP. For that, he will get Devlin's recommendation for the fellowship, and a piece of the drug money when it goes into production. Julie is visiting Frank, and in a tried and true soap plot, confesses to the unconscious Frank that she loves him ÷ and had even when they made the deal to not get "really" involved. Yawn. Joe is worried about what his life is going to be like if Frank dies. He owes him so much, including his career as a doctor. There will be a big hole in his life if Frank isn't around. Karen tries to comfort him, and Joe goes to look at Frank's latest lab results. Chris feigns concern over how Karen is doing. She says fine, she is worried about Joe and Mary mostly. She then realizes that she needs to feed and check her lab rats. Chris kindly offers to go do it for her ÷ so that she can stay with Joe. She gives him the keys to the lab and the cabinet with the log books. Scott is back to visit Jake. They tell him that Lark has corroborated his story, and that they are going to get a prosecutor over to see her to get a statement. Jake should be out by dinner, although Scott jokes that dinners at the jail aren't so bad ÷ he's had them all. Eve comes in with her cell phone and tells them Lark has been sent to juvy hall, as there was screw-up with the hospital paperwork. Scott calls juvy hall, to find that Lark has disappeared. Scott and Eve realize that this does not bode well for Jake, as it will seem to Lark that they broke their end of the deal. Chris is at the lab. He gets the log books and starts reading the notes aloud, taping them as he does so. In Frank's room, Julie and Joe discuss Frank's condition with Bennet Devlin. He says that Frank's heart cannot be weaned from the machines; when they try, his heart gets bradycardia (slowed heart rate) and he becomes hypotensive (low blood pressure). Devlin concludes that there is damage to the cardioaccelerator nerve, and Julie surmises this means a pacemaker is required. Devlin won't operate to put one in, as it would be too dangerous to go in again. They leave the room, and Devlin tells them he doesn't want to tell them what they already know. Mary comes up, and Devlin tells her that she should start preparing for Frank not recovering. When Devlin leaves, Mary tells Joe that she thinks it's time to call the priest. That's it. I don't think I left anything major out, but if you have anything to add, please do so! -Deb
