DEVLIN'S DAY GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE

Gail and Kevin are talking on the phone.  He's describing his symptoms ÷
insomnia, restlessness, etc.  She wonders if it could be stress, but he
thinks it is more than just stress, that he is repressing traumatic
memories.  Gail is cautious about giving any opinion, and wants to see
him.  She can fit him in this morning, which is convenient because Kevin
has to take Victor for a check-up.  Victor is upset; he doesn't see why
Kevin needs to parade the family business out for all to see.  Victor
has a bit of a temper tantrum and says he doesn't want to go to the
hospital.  Kevin orders him into the car.

Scott and Eve discuss her chances with the board, which seem about the
same as they did the day before.  Scott off to see Joe and Jake and
Karen about Devlin's article.  Eve wants to visit a former patient.
They flirt over the broken clasp on the bracelet that Scott gave her.

Julie confronts Alison.  She wants to know if it's true, that Alison
slept with her father (Devlin) while dating her brother (Buddy).  Did
Buddy know?  Did he kill himself because he knew?  Alison isn't sure,
Buddy had been depressed for months.  But he killed himself two days
after finding out about her and his father.

Devlin is on the phone and seems happy about the information he
receives.  Frank enters the lab.  He read the article and spoke with
Karen.  He knows he's being given Devlin's experimental drug.  Frank
wants more info.  Devlin wants to know what he's said to Karen or
others.  Frank has said nothing.  Devlin threatens him ÷ if he wants to
stay alive, he needs to keep taking the drug via injections.  Frank
grabs him, chokes him against the wall, and threatens him ÷ he has to
tell him everything he knows if he wants to stay alive.  Chris enters
the lab.  Frank drops Devlin and says that they're having a meeting.
Chris says that doctor-patient relationships aren't what they used to
be.  Frank leaves.  Chris gives Devlin an ultimatum ÷ a cut on the
pharmaceutical company's advance, or he'll tell them about the rats'
violent behaviours.  Devlin offers $20,000, with which Chris is not
satisfied.  Devlin counters with a tape of Chris admitting to breaking
into the Baldwin lab and stealing data.  Devlin has edited the tape so
that he's not on it.  Devlin will use it if he has  to.

Kevin, Lucy and Victor are at the hospital.  Lucy sees someone reading
Kevin's book, and is excited because it will stay number 1 with so many
reading it.  Kevin says it's because of Devlin's libel suit ÷ legal
suits sell books.  Devlin comes by, and Kevin wonders why he is taking
it so far.  Devlin wonders why Kevin did such a job on him in his trash
book, since Devlin once saved his life.  Since Kevin's medical
reputation is in ashes, he might not realize, that a medical
professional's reputation is everything, and he needs to protect his.
Devlin wants to teach Kevin a lesson.  Devlin leaves, and Victor
comments that Kevin captured Devlin very well in his book.

Scott is talking with Jake and Joe and Karen.  He realizes that Devlin
has stolen their work, but being unethical is not necessarily the same
as doing an illegal act.  Devlin was their supervisor and the lab was
being funded by the hospital.  Scott leaves, and Joe says he won't take
this any more.  He's going to confront Devlin.  Jake and Karen follow
him.

Gail is in session with Kevin.  Kevin is having hallucinations, seeing
Ryan laughing at him.  Ryan keeps telling him that Kevin needs him and
someone is out to get Kevin.  He has complete recall, which is different
from when he cracked before and blacked out while stalking Felicia.  He
is remembering feelings rather than memories.  Gail and Kevin agree that
his subconscious is trying to tell him something, that he's on the right
path.  Victor won't tell him anything, so he is going to have to figure
this out on his own.  What Kevin remembers is a feeling of terror, pure
terror.

Julie confronts Devlin.  She tells him she hates him, that he killed her
brother.  Alison told her everything.  Devlin denies it all and says
that Julie must know how much he loved Buddy.  Julie tells him he was
never a father or a husband and that she hopes he rots in hell.

Julie leaves.  He goes after her and is stopped by Joe, with Jake and
Karen right behind.  Joe wants them to get the credit they deserve.
Devlin tells them to stop sniveling.  Interns are the lowest form of
life and they need to do what he says.  Devlin leaves and Karen realizes
that Devlin would be capable of killing someone.

Devlin finds Eve.  He's upset.  Julie hates him and he blames Eve.  She
points out he has no one to blame but himself.  He pulls her out of the
hall into a room.  Devlin wants her to withdraw her complaint.  She
won't.  If he doesn't, he'll tell everyone how she paid her way through
college.  As a waitress? she asks.  He says no, as a paid escort.
Withdraw her complaint or he tells everyone she was a hooker in
college.  He's seen her in both her professions, and her talent lies in
the bedroom not the operating room.  She slaps him.  He slugs her in
response.

Eve runs into Scott, and tries to say a door hit her.  He knows it was
Devlin who gave her the black eye.  Scott goes after him.  Lucy is
looking for Kevin or Victor and asks Grace if she's seen either of
them.  She finds Victor, who has blood on his arm and clothes, from a
lab tech who had trouble taking blood.

Frank sees Julie.  Julie is upset ÷ she tells him her father slept with
the 19 year old girlfriend of her brother.  Buddy killed himself two
days later.  She wishes Buddy had killed Devlin instead.  There is
nothing good about her father.

Chris and Eve meet in the on-call room.  He offers ice and first aid for
her black eye, which he easily realizes is Devlin's work.  She finds
that she's misplaced her bracelet.

Scott is in Devlin's lab.  Devlin is on the floor, face up, with what
looks like a scalpel sticking out of his heart.  Scott spies Eve's
bracelet on the floor by Devlin and picks it up with his handkerchief.

So, at the end of Wednesday we have a list of suspects, some of whom
will be easier to discount than others.
