PORT CHARLES - FELICIA'S INVESTIGATION - PART III

(This month we've asked Felicia to help us out with our updates,
by doing a little investigating. Here's her report, and if you'd
like to see it as a web page, complete with pictures and sounds
go to http://members.aol.com/ninOtchka/felicia.htm.)

Kevin got a phone call from Mac, telling him that whoever
killed Devlin copied the murder from Kevin's book. He was
stabbed with a fountain pen right through the heart.

Julie and Frank were at the police station where she'd been
taken in for questioning. Frank was angry that she was
considered a suspect. Garcia suggested that they were
trying to clear Julie. He asked her if she had any ideas.
She suggested they talk to Eve Lambert because Eve had all
the dirty little secrets on Julie's father.

Eve and Scott were in the Scanlon kitchen. He held out the
bracelet he found at the murder scene. He asked her why he
found it by Devlin's dead body . Eve seemed shocked. She had
no idea. She was nowhere near the lab. Scott asked how the
fight with Devlin got started. She told him how Devlin had
taken her into the empty patient room and they had argued
over the harassment suit and he threatened her. Eve said, "Same
old story." Scott reminded her. "He punched you. Why didn't
you call the police." Eve said she didn't because she hit
Devlin first and didn't want him pressing charges. Scott
wondered how her bracelet ended up in the Lab if the fight
was in a patient room. Eve didn't know. She guessed that
Devlin might have picked it up after the fight intending to
give it back to her or give it to his next girlfriend. She
asked Scott to believe she was nowhere near the lab. She
would never lie to him. Scott said he thought she was holding
something back. Then she pointed out that Scotty was furious
with Devlin when he went off to find him. She asked if he did
find him, obviously implying that Scott might have killed him.
Scott said he did, but Devlin was already dead. She said she
had to take his word for that, just like he had to take hers.
Scott granted her that point. He suggested that they were
both stressed. He hugged her. He worried that the day had been
tough on her. She said she no longer cared about Devlin, but
that she didn't kill him. Scott claimed to believe her.
They kiss and decide to go upstairs and see her room.

At the Lighthouse Lucy was trying to give Kevin a massage, but
he was still upset over Mac's news. "It just makes me sick
that there's a murderer out there getting ideas about how
to kill from my book." Lucy insisted that it wasn't his
fault that the murderer lacked originality. Dead is dead and it
doesn't matter how it happened. He didn't think the PCPD would
see it that way. The massage wasn't working so Lucy used a
different tactic. They kissed. They were interrupted by the
phone ringing. It was a reporter who wanted a quote. Kevin
said that "My book is fiction!" and slammed down the phone.
"The sharks are circling."

Julie and Frank came into the Scanlon kitchen. They told Joe
that Garcia thinks Julie killed her father. Frank was angry,
but Julie said Garcia was only doing his job. Joe wondered
why they'd even think Julie was a suspect. Julie said it was
because she had a big argument with her father that day.
Julie felt bad that her last words to him were that he should
rot in hell. Frank said she was right to be angry. Joe wanted
to know what he missed. Julie told him her father had an affair
with her brother's girlfriend andthen Buddy killed himself two
days later. Joe guessed that she must have been furious. She
said that she ripped into him like she never had before. She
realized how damning her words were and hastily added, "Oh, but
I didn't. I didn't!" Frank said it was a big jump from being
angry to murder. Julie worried that they wouldn't look for the
real killer if they suspected her. Frank suggested she get
a good attorney before she talked to the police again. Joe said
that Scott Baldwin was an amazing lawyer. (Well, as a former
client, I don't think I can give him a reference. I ended up in a
loony bin.) Joe offered to get his number. (No need. He was right
upstairs.)

Eve and Scott were upstairs in her bed. (Again for privacy's
sake I won't go into details.) Scott wondered why Chris had
given Eve an alibi. Scott wanted to know if the alibi was true.
Eve reminded him they're not in court. He didn't let it go.
"Was Chris Ramsey there when you had the fight or not?" She
admitted that he wasn't. She said Chris surprised her with the
alibi and she was so relieved to be out of the hot seat that
she didn't contradict him. Scott suggested that she should
tell the cops. Eve didn't think that she should change her
story at this point. Scott said that impeding a murder
investigation is not smart. She pointed out that finding the
body, removing evidence and not telling the police wasn't smart
either. He said it was different because he was trying to
protect her. She said that she didn't need his protection unless,
he thought she did it. (Obviously Scott does think she did it,
and there is some evidence to support that, however, he could just
have easily done it himself.)

The following morning Lucy and Kevin were in the Lighthouse
reading the newspaper. Kevin told Lucy that the papers have
already found out about the murder weapon. He showed her the
headline. "Killer Goes by the Book." Lucy wondered if they
could really say that. Kevin told her, "Well, according to
that wacky first amendment they can." Kevin read further
details. Kevin thought that anybody who read the article
would think he killed Devlin.

Karen, Frank and Lark were in the Scanlon kitchen. Karen had
to leave for work. Frank asked if Lark had managed to get his
medication from the Lab. Yes, she admitted, she had it upstairs.
He asked what time she was in the lab and if she had seen anything.
Lark remembered seeing Scott picking up Eve's bracelet next to the
dead body, but didn't tell Frank. She told him the lab was empty.
He doesn't believe her. (So what else did Lark see? Was Devlin
dead or alive when she hid herself in that closet?)

Scott met Julie in the hospital lounge at her request. She told
him the police wanted to question her and she needed a lawyer.
Scott asked if the fact that he didn't care for her father
would bother her. (No, but maybe the fact that you're hiding
evidence that implicates your girlfriend, would. The words
"conflict of interest" ring a bell?) She said it didn't bother
her, if it didn't bother him. Scott wanted to ask her a couple
of questions. Did she have an alibi? She had gone to see a
patient who wasn't there. No alibi. Did she see anything the day
of the murder that might be helpful. No. She was so upset
about the Alison thing she didn't notice anything else. She had
gone over to the Recovery Room and met Frank. They noticed the
commotion and went back to the hospital. Julie told Scott the
police had asked her for fingerprints and a hair sample. Scott
said she should give them to avoid the appearance of guilt. She
agreed and they left for the police station. (So, it looks like
Frank didn't have an alibi either.)

Eve walked into the on-call room to confront Chris. She wanted to
know if he was setting her up by lying about being there when she
and Devlin fought. Chris said he was trying to help. She didn't
believe him and he suggested that he needed and alibi too, after
all he had slept with the guy's wife. He said that they could
scratch each other's backs. Eve still didn't trust him. "Did you
kill him," she asked. "No," after a pause, he asked if she killed
Devlin. She said, "No, I didn't. And if you're so innocent, you
won't mind if I go to the police and tell them what really happened."
He did mind. Eve wanted a good reason why she shouldn't. He said
everyone blamed him for everything. He didn't want a murder pinned
on him. He said that she needed an alibi more than he did. "You're
the ex-mistress who everybody knows had a knock down drag out fight
with the dearly departed before he got smoked with a fountain pen."
Eve looked worried. (Well, he sure is acting suspicious.)

At the lighthouse Lucy was going over Kevin's alibi. "First you
were with me and then you were with Gail, right?" Kevin wanted
to know why she was trying to come with an alibi for him. Lucy
wanted to be prepared in case Garcia came by. Kevin got it.
"You mean you want us to have our stories straight." Kevin told
her that he had his session with Gail and then he spent he
didn't know how long looking for Victor. Lucy asked if he had
seen anybody. He had spoken to the lab tech and didn't remember
seeing anyone until he found her at the nurses' station. (Does
he mean he doesn't remember seeing anyone or he doesn't remember
anything at all? Could be a blackout.) Lucy pointed out that
he didn't really have an alibi. Lucy veered to another suspect.
"Doc, does it worry you at all that when we found Victor he
had blood all over the side of his shirt?" Kevin asked if she
thought that Victor had done it.

Scott was waiting for Julie at the police station when Eve walked
in. She had a message from Garcia calling her in. She asked what
he was doing there. Scott told her he was representing Julie,
but wanted to know Eve needed a lawyer. She said that she didn't
need a lawyer who thinks she's a murderer. She wanted to know if
he intended to tell the police about the bracelet. He was about
to tell her when Garcia brought Julie out of the interrogation
room. Scott asked how it went, and Julie said that now she
knows how a lab rat feels. (Oh good, now she and Frank both know
how it feels.) Instead of questioning Eve next, Garcia picks on
Scott. He recalled that Bennett had given evidence against Scott
during the kidnapping trial. Scott refuted that. "Everybody in
town testified against me and they're all alive. Garcia asked
point blank where he was during the murder. Scott wanted to
know if he was being interrogate. They go into the interrogation
room. Eve wondered what Scott would say about the bracelet.
