My first try as an updater and I cannot get the damn thing to post. If,
for some odd reason, it has posted and is hiding from me, I apologize.
Anyway, onto posting attempt number 4:

Matt and Ellen: Reunited and It Feels So Good

Ellen is in her old apartment. Matt is at the door. She is pleased to
see him, but he looks wary. His "welcome home" leaves her looking wary
as well. She wants to know how he knew she was back in town. Eve told
him last night. He's surprised that she's back. Her mother had another
heart attack in San Diego. She (Alice) had gone to San Diego after the
pipes burst in her apartment (nice plot-device continuity). She'll be
fine, but it'll take some time since this is her third heart attack.
Matt wants to know why Ellen didn't tell him she was back. She was
going to call him but hasn't had time. She doesn't know how long she'll
be around. Matt asks hopefully if she'll be around a while. Right on
cue, Alice calls to remind Ellen of some things to do for her. Ellen is
amused at her mother's kibitzing. Matt is happy to see Ellen but sorry
about Alice. She's happy to see him but worried about how he's taking
Grace's death. She meant to call sooner. He tells her that he dumped
Grace right before she died. Ellen tells Matt that he shouldn't blame
himself and that they should appreciate the good things they have. He
tells her he wants her to go back to California. She misunderstands his
reasoning and works herself into a Lucy-like snit explaining that she
didn't expect a one-night stand to turn into a relationship. When he
can finally get a word in edgewise, he explains that he wants her to
leave to get her away from the killer. She melts. She tells him not to
worry. She'll be fine. (Did her character die in the book? Did she
even have a character in the book?) Now that he can see her, he wants
to be with her and doesn't want her to leave. He wants to be with her.
She kneels in front of him and tells him that she didn't let him know
she was coming because she wanted to surprise him. Thinking about her
is the only thing that gives him joy right now. She has missed him and
been thinking about him. They kiss.

[I loved this whole scene. It was the awkward morning after that they
never really had since she left. She seems very human with him, not
like the ice princess she is at the hospital. Also, has anyone pointed
out that, based on their names, they are destined to be a supercouple:
Eric (Matt) and Ellen. YFU, who also happends to be the founder of FPCO
Matt and Ellen, is looking forward to more of them.]

Kevin and Lucy and the Majorly Dumb Investigation (MDI)

Kevin is reading a newpaper report about Katherine's death. Kevin has
been trying to reach Mac. Lucy is in shock. This doesn't make any
sense. He says that deaths never make sense, but she seems to have been
happy when she died (if he only knew!). Lucy thinks they should have
gone to the party. Then, Kat would have been showing off to her and
wouldn't have been on that parapet. Lucy won't beat herself up because
that's what Kat would have wanted. She starts to cry. Kat was
important to her. Kevin points out that there is no General Homicide
connection. Her character didn't die in the book. This makes you
appreciate what you have. Lucy wants to stay home and appreciate each
other. He thinks that is a grand idea. As he's telling her which of
her body parts he plans not to take for granted, the phone of doom
rings. No one in PC being able to ignore a ringing phone (except Matt
and Ellen, who were punished by the answering machine), Lucy answers
it. It's Munson the Pimp with an appointment. He sent the costume.
She tries to get out of the appointment, but he threatens to fire her.
The doorbell rings, and the costume is delivered. It's big and pink and
includes a powdered wig (scary!). She gives Kevin her standard Nurse's
Ball excuse. She wants to keep things fresh. Kevin responds with the
LOD: "You're nothing if not fresh." he is surprised that she is
acctually going to the fitting for this costume. She reminds him of his
Jungian symposium that day. He is concerned about the killer. She
insists that the killer is Eve. He gives her three options. They can:
1) stay home together, 2) do the Jungian thing together, or 3) go to her
fitting together. I voted for #1. Lucy chooses option #2. After the
break, Lucy has taken to her death-bed (actually, it was a death-couch)
with Sigmund (!), claiming a headache. She convinces Kevin to go to the
symposium without her. As soon as he's out the door, she grabs the
costume and bemoans the fact that Siggy doesn't have thumbs to help her
with the hooks. Lucy in her costume (a pink and black Marie
Antoinette-ish number with feathers) arrives at the door of her
appointment and is invited in by a high-pitched voice with a French
accent (the voice is very deep once she gets inside). As she opens the
door, the blade of a guillotine crashes down and a nefarious-looking
chap whose face is hidden with a black hood closes the door and stands
there looking menacing. Three guesses on the identity of Mr. X.

Karen and Courtney Go to the Fair

Karen runs into Neal and his mom Courtney on their way to have blood
drawn. He can see the fair from his window. He and Courtney tell Karen
about going to the fair last year. He got a squirt gun, but it broke.
Karen is paged. Joe snags her by the phone and wants to go to the
fair. Dr. May comes by and needs Joe to work, so Joe and Karen have to
cancel their fair plans. He wants her to go without him. She decide to
ask Courtney. After the fair, Karen and Courtney are at the Recovery
Room eating ice cream. They both needed the break. Courtney talks
about what it's like to have a kid with cancer. YFU wonders if there is
a point to this. Neal is Karen's #1 fan and vice versa. Joe walks into
the Recovery Room and sees Karen and Courtney. He and Courtney know
each other. she looks pleased to see him. He looks wary (a lot of
wariness in this show).
