Port Charles Update, 29 July 1998

[A good day for FGCO Joe and Karen. A sad day for FGCO Lucy and Kevin.
Wonderful acting, as per usual, from Kevin and Lucy's portrayers.]

Victor tells Kevin that he and Lucy are just going through a rough
patch, and he wants to know what Kevin is going to do about it. Kevin
thinks it is a little more serious, since he did leave Lucy at the
altar. Victor calls it a mistake and urges Kevin to call her ö Victor
even has her number.

Lucy, at her hotel, is willing the phone to ring. She is upset because
she can't call Kevin. Talking to herself and Sigmund, she says she
always has a plan but now she doesn't seem to be able to think of one.

Joe and Karen have his house to themselves. He has a surprise evening
planned, beginning with dinner. He's made peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches ö they reminisce over pb&j sandwiches as kids (he kissed her
while her mouth was stuck together). It seems, for them, pb&j is a
lead-in to foreplay.

Kevin, with feeling, tells Victor what Lucy did. She siphoned the gas
from Eve's car, precipitated Serena's accident, and then looked him
straight in the eye and lied about it. All the phone calls in the world
won't change the facts. Victor says OK, it's none of his business, but
he leaves the number for Kevin. Victor then "finds" her photo album.
He starts to look through it and reminisces ö she looks stunning dressed
for the nurses' ball. He leaves the album in front of him. The Victor
plays the "answer" on the answering machine ö it's Lucy's voice. Kevin
wants to know what Victor's up to. Victor tells Kevin he needs Lucy,
she brings light into his life. Kevin knows what she means to him, but
it's not the point. Victor tells Kevin that he once loved a woman whose
mistakes were unforgivable, but Lucy's aren't that big. He urges Kevin
not to throw his life away.

Lucy is making a list. Plus side ö she loves Kevin. Minus ö Kevin left
her at altar. Plus ö Scott knows how much she loves him and Serena.
Minus ö Scott hates her because of the accident. Minus ö if Serena
finds out, she'll think that she hurt her. She asks Sigmund why he's
the only one who understands her. Why can't others understand she only
wanted to protect Serena, not to hurt her. Lucy's minus is much larger
than the plus side. Another plus ö Siggy. Minus ö they're alone in a
hotel room. Plus ö room service. Lucy says they're down, but they're
not out.

Kevin and Joe are playing twister. They're all tangled up. Obviously
more Kevin-and-Joe-style foreplay. (Really ö NOTHING happened in this
30sec scene!).

Lucy wonders why she lied to Kevin, but admits it wasn't the first
time. Siggy munches on the room service offerings. Lucy thought there
was just certain information he didn't need to know. The gas tank info
was in that category. She should have figured out that it was
different. She lied because she was ashamed of what she had done. She
lied so well he'll never know if she's telling the truth. But, she
doesn't want to think like this. It's not over because Kevin loves her
very much. But he left her at the altar, so it might really be over.
And if it is, she'll only have one person to blame.

Kevin tells Victor that he trusted her. He poured his soul into her.
Because he loves her, is why it hurts so much. Lucy is the one person
he thought would never violate his trust, after having lost the trust of
the other people in his life he loved (mother, Ryan, Victor). He
thought she knew that he couldn't go through that again. Everything he
sees, hears, reminds him of her. He chokes up as he talks about
thinking about her. He misses her, he wants to see her, to touch her,
to hear her voice. But a phone call won't fix it. He woke up this
morning thinking everything he wanted was going to be his forever. As
he sobs, he says he feels instead, now, as if his own choice could lead
to his worse fear ö it could drive him insane. Victor tells him that
they are each other's heart, and that he should go to her.

Lucy is trying to write a letter to Kevin. A knock at the door is not
Kevin, but Victor. She tells him that she ruined everything. Victor
sees them as similar ö both capable of putting a spin on the truth for
the people they love. She says she really hurt him, but Victor replies
that he's strong. Lucy wants to know how Kevin is. Victor tells her
that he's miserable. Victor is going to keep working on him. Lucy hugs
him thankfully.

Kevin looks at the photograph album. He remembers other times (to the
sounds of "When a man loves a woman"). Kissing by candlelight. Giving
her Siggy and diamonds. Asking her to marry him. The miscarriage.
Standing at the altar together (before Eve interrupted). Finding out
that she had lied to him about her involvement in the accident. Kevin
puts the album away with tears in his eyes and goes upstairs.

Karen and Joe play Marco Polo. He gives her a box of Cracker Jacks.
She remembers buying CJ and comic books when they were kids. They used
to fight over the prize. It's a ring they traded back and forth as
kids. Joe tells her that he's loved her forever, and that he wants to
spend the rest of his life with her. He asks her to marry him. He
knows she's scared about marrying, but he can be brave for both of
them. He kept the ring because she stole his heart then. He's giving
it back to her now and wants her to say yes. She does.
