Port Charles Update for Tuesday, 1-Dec-1998

Today's show opened at the Scanlon house. Frank told Joe he was going to go to Lee Baldwin's office to see how he could help Julie. According to Frank, Julie's just another one of Greg Cooper's victims. Joe told Frank he'd go with him, even though he disagrees.
Courtney received a letter from Greece. Neil's grandparents are coming for a visit. Courtney is not pleased.
Lee tells Kevin that since Julie was acquitted of the murders, she can't be re-tried. That would be Double Jeopardy. However, she is charged with 2nd degree kidnapping, attempted murder & malice, 1st degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, & 1st degree murder (of John Kanelos, who was murdered after Julie's acquittal).
Lee says he hopes to prove Julie's incompetent to stand trial. If she stands trial, she could get the death penalty, but the alternative is spending years in an institution. Kevin tells Frank that if Julie goes to an institution, she may never be allowed to reenter society. Frank is very upset & confused.
Mary doesn't understand why Courtney doesn't want Neil to see his grandparents. Courtney thinks they'll turn Neil against her. Neil & Karen return from visiting Serena. Neil goes out to shoot hoops. Mary tells Courtney that Neil's grandparents have a right to know their "own flesh & blood." Courtney & Karen share a knowing glance.
Kevin visits Julie. She still insists she's Greg Cooper's sister.
Courtney thinks it may be the right time to tell the Kanelos' that Joe is Neil's father. Karen thinks that's a terrible idea.
Joe & Frank argue about Julie. Joe tries to convince Frank that Julie is dangerous. Frank says Julie is ill & needs help. Frank rushes out. He looks like he needs his fix of DL-56.
Julie tells Kevin that Greg tied her up & withheld food until she could recite the things he told her about their family. She says Greg was just trying to make her "understand." She tells Kevin that the Collins family has ruined her life. Kevin reminds her that Greg tried to perform plastic surgery on her. She says that he was just trying to make her look more like their mother.
Frank visits a lawyer who's had success defending very difficult cases. He tells Frank there's no way he'll take Julie's case because she belongs in a padded cell.
Karen tells Joe that Courtney wants to reveal Neil's parentage. Joe says Neil's not ready for that. Neil & Mary come in from playing a game of basketball. Mary says that Neil's better than any therapy she's ever had at GH. They go into the kitchen for a power shake. Joe tells Karen that maybe finding out she has a grandson is just what Mary needs right now.
