Port Charles Update for Wednesday, 9-Dec-1998

Today's show opened at the firehouse. Lucy's really sick. First, she's hot. Then, she's cold. Meanwhile, at Mario's, Frank's unconscious. Lark is coughing. Kevin asks her if she's alright. She tells him it's just a nervous reaction. She asks him if anyone ever dies from the flu. He tells her it's rare, but it does happen. Eve calls an ambulance for Frank. Chris tells her to make sure the paramedics wear their masks.
Chris wonders what's taking the ambulance so long. Eve tells him that if he had let her call the ambulance when she first wanted too, they'd be there by now. He says he didn't know things would get so serious. Lark is still coughing. Mario tells Kevin he's afraid people will think Frak has food poisoning from something he ate there. Kevin tells him it isn't food poisoning. Mario decides to close for the night. Frank's temperature is 105. Lucy's is 102. She keeps Scott busy bringing her shoe catalogs down to her. She tells him to leave Sigmund upstairs. She doesn't want him catching this. Karen calls. Scott tells her Lucy is sick. She asks if they want her to stop by & check on Lucy. Scott says no. Joe & Courtney are on a plane to Greece. Joe says he's not coming home without his son. Courtney reminds him it's "our son." The lady across the aisle from them thinks they're honeymooners. They tell her they aren't even engaged. She says they will be on their return flight.
Frank regains consciousness as the ambulance arrives. Eve demands to know the truth. Chris tells her it's the Nepal flu. He sticks to his story about mixing Eve's virus with herbs. He tells her Frank will be fine in 24 hours. But, he looks worried.
Lucy's getting worse. Scott asks if he should call Karen. She says no. Karen gets a call from Joe on the plane. He left love poems in her hospital mailbox. Courtney overhears, & starts reminiscing about the affair they had. Joe pretty much ignores her. Ellen (now played by Marie-Alise Recasner) is waiting when Frank arrives at the hospital. He's lost consciousness again. She says they've seen lots of Nepalese flu, but none like this. Eve gives Chris a look that could kill, & storms off. Chris is more worried.
Karen tells Matt that Kevin is working with Julie, trying to undo the damage Greg Cooper did. (I am so sick of everyone feeling sorry for "poor Julie." JMHO) Courtney tells Joe that the Kaneloses always had a houseful of Xmas presents, but she always preferred the homemade ones Neil gave her. (yeah, right) She tells Joe she's sorry she didn't tell him that Neil was his son sooner. Lark is sicker. Mario decides to call an ambulance. Kevin calls the firehouse & tells Scott that they may have been exposed to a serious illness. Eve tells Chris that he knows damn well this is not the ordinary Nepal flu virus. Chris says that he won't know for sure til he looks under the microscope. But, he thinks the virus has mutated!!!
