Today's show opens with Lucy, Emily, and Monica talking in the hospital lobby. Emily is doing a project on how HIV affects doctors & nurses, both professionally and personally. She also wants to interview Lucy because of her commitment to the Nurses' Ball. Lucy is flattered & accepts. She also spouts off a bit about Kathy Bell's less than desirable fashion sense, and then worries that Em's camcorder is on. Em says she thinks it wasn't but she's not sure.

Next we see a police officer questioning Chris about what he's doing back there. He says that he was tired and pulled off the highway to catch some shuteye. The police officer says Chris has to leave or he'll be arrested for trespassing on private property. Amazing, I thought cops had better things to do, such as looking for an escaped SERIAL KILLER than to worry about someone walking on some yahoo's private property. Chris doesn't want to look suspicious though so he gets in his red car and drives off.

Julie is still in the hotel room, in labor pain, yelling for Chris.

OPENING CREDITS

Monica, Lucy, and Emily go to the pedes ward and talk to Joe. He tells Emily about HIV and drug protocols, especially about how most teens think they can't get HIV. Lucy talks about how much the Ball means to her - not the dresses or the showing up Kat part, but the part about helping people. Lucy then gets the idea to have Emily show her video at the Nurses' Ball. IMHO, this has disaster written all over it. Remember the bit with Lucy dissing Kat? I have a feeling that Em's camcorder was on during that. Monica thanks Lucy for letting her and Emily tag around and for the interview, and Lucy complements Emily, talking about what a great kid she is. At this moment, an adorable little girl named Jenny comes over. She's been ordered to take a nap by the nurses - Monica mentions that they have a terrible time getting this little girl to sleep. Lucy decides to give it a try. She goes over to the little girl and talks with her. Jenny says that she's special because her parents picked her. Lucy hums a song to Jenny that she learned from her Aunt Charlene. Jenny falls asleep and Lucy went back to Monica and the two talk about adoption. After Monica leaves, Lucy gets a wistful look on her face.

Back to Julie and Chris. Chris has finally come back, saying that he had to double back to evade the cop. There is still no movement from the baby - Julie is certain that there is something wrong with the baby.

Lucy goes to visit Scott in the big house. Scott is convinced he'll be home soon, that DV's charges won't stick. Scott sees that Lucy has something on her mind - she tells him about her day, especially Jenny. Scott says that he knows Lucy will have a baby some day - first they'll try the natural way and if that doesn't work they'll go to every fertility clinic in the country if they have to. Lucy wants to know what if she never gets pregnant? She wants to know how important it is to him to have his own child. Lucy is talking about adoption.

Chris has finally detected a heartbeat. It's slow, though, which means the baby is in distress. Chris wants to take Julie to the hospital - he's frantic and is worried that both Julie and the baby could die. Julie says they don't even know if there is a hospital nearby - everything depends on Chris. Chris looks as though he's scared sh!tless.

Scott tells Lucy he never thought about adopting. Lucy then talks about how Aunt Charlene raised her, taking her to her first day of kindergarten, etc. Scott talked about Lee and how he considers him his father. Lucy says that she will go through the tests and fertility clinics if Scott really wants her to, which he does. But Lucy also tells Scott that she doesn't want to spend her entire life trying to do something that may never happen. The two of them have a lot of love to give, and she wants to adopt. Scott is worried about their less-than-stellar backgrounds, but he agrees to go along with Lucy.

Chris has everything ready for Julie - it's time for her to push. She does, but after the second push, he tells her to stop. The umbilical cord is around the baby's neck. Julie is trying not to push. Chris finally gets the cord out of the way and tells Julie to push. She does, and Julie Jr. is born - it's a girl! Chris looks amazed that it really happened, and inordinately proud. He hands Julie the baby and sits back watching the two, a look on his face that is a mixture of pride, awe, and happiness.
