Port Charles Update for Friday, 9-Jul-1999

Lucy tells DV to leave but he insists on talking with her. She tells him that he underestimated Scott's and her love for each other. She thinks they're proof of the saying - what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. DV tells her not to underestimate him. He has come up with several ideas on how to get her away from Scott. He tries to touch her face. She backs off. He leaves.

In Rome, Kevin and Eve are dining with Mr. Zoren. (sp?) He says he has no idea how the bug was planted on Eve. Maybe it has something to do with Kevin's father. Eve says that's unlikely because he's just a retired math professor. Kevin gives Mr. Zoren a recent picture of Victor. Mr. Z faxes the picture to the police. Mr. Z goes to make a call and says that the Americans have found the recording device and they'll have to think of something else. Mr. Z brings Kevin and Eve to the morgue. The police reported a John Doe who looks like Victor. Kevin is ready to identify the body. Kevin, Eve and Mr. Z watch through a window as someone starts to pull the sheet off a body on a table.

Julie calls Chris. She is disappointed that Lee didn't die. Chris runs into Karen and asks how Lee is. She reminds him that he was harassing Lee when he collapsed but informs him that he is off the hook because Lee had a pulmonary embolism. She still thinks Chris contributed to the stress which came before Lee's collapse. Chris calls Leopold and asks how they stand on the petition to remove Lee as Julie's guardian. Chris calls Julie back to let her know that everything will be ok with their petition.

Joe and Karen encourage Scott and Gail to go ahead with Lee's surgery. Karen talks privately with Joe who tells her that Monica says Lee's chances aren't good. Scott and Gail visit Lee in his room. Lee says he wants to say good-bye. Scott and Gail protest but he says he realizes what's going on. They beg him to fight. Scott calls Lucy and asks her to bring Serena over. He doesn't think Lee will make it. Lucy brings Serena and Christina to see Lee. Serena reads a poem she wrote for Lee. Lee is having trouble speaking but tells Serena how thrilled he is with her gift. Karen comes in to check on him. She tells Lee about her fantasy when she was growing up. She was always alone with her mother and imagined that she had awesome grandparents somewhere. Now her fantasies have come true because she has a family complete with wonderful grandparents. (I must admit here that the new actress won many brownie points with me in this scene) Scott goes out into the hall. He kicks furniture in frustration. Lucy tries to comfort him to no avail. He tells her how Lee was always his hero. Joe tells Lee's visitors it's time to prep him for surgery. Outside Lee's room, Serena asks Lucy if her grandpa is going to die. Lucy does her best to reassure Serena the doctors and nurses will do their best for Lee. Karen tells Lee she'll be with him through the surgery. Alone with Lee, Scott refuses to let him say good-bye. Lee says he knows the odds are he won't make it, but Scott reminds him they've never paid attention to odds. Scott tells him how much he needs him in all walks of his life. He's the only father he's ever known. He wants to thank him for everything. Lee tells him he won't leave his family without a fight and says he loves Scott. Scott admits he's been a pain for much of his life but tells Lee he loves him. Lee becomes very emotional (great acting here). They embrace. Joe interrupts. It's time for them to go. Scott leaves Lee's room, looking down. Who is waiting outside, standing with his arms folded? DV. Scott looks up and sees him.
