Port Charles Update for Friday, 30-Jul-1999

I may be in the minority, but I really liked most of today's show. It had several cliffhangers at the end, which I thought was surprising because it actually was scheduled to be a Thursday show.

Courtney tells Julie "lay off Chris, he's mine!" She says that Julie is just a momentary challenge to him. He and Courtney have the real thing. Julie claims that Chris loves her. Courtney asks why, if Chris loves Julie, did he reveal all of Julie's secrets to her?

Joe is working on monthly bills in the Scanlon kitchen. He asks Frank for his half, but Frank doesn't have it. Joe suggests that since he doesn't have a job, he should sell his telescope. Frank is not amused. He brings some money to Joe but Joe says it only covers the utilities, not the mortgage. Frank reminds him that they bought the house together to keep it in the family. Joe says they may be blood, but they're not family. They rehash their history: Frank made sacrifices so Joe could become a doctor...Frank still holds Joe responsible for losing his paramedic job. Why couldn't Joe have lied for him? Joe says he doesn't lie. Joe wants Frank to move out because he's a bad influence on "his" son. Neil enters and wants to know why they are fighting. Joe says it's just brother stuff. In this scene, Neil refers to Frank as Uncle Frank and later Frank refers to himself the same way. Seemed obvious that we were being prepared to find out he wasn't really an uncle. Karen arrives. She and Joe talk about repairing their relationship.

In what is possibly my least favorite soap story of all time, Eve and Victor try to tell which Kevin is the real Kevin. LeftKevin or RightKevin? Eve kisses RightKevin and knows it's him. Oh please! LeftKevin disappears. The voice that Eve heard in the catacombs is once again heard, this time threatening Victor. Bennett Devlin appears and immediately proceeds to taunt Eve....about her hooker past...about her dead baby...about the fact that Lucy knows about the baby. Victor is surprised to hear about Eve's baby. Bennett's image disappears. Eve tells Kevin that she is afraid that because "these people" know all about them, this will never be over. (Let's all pray that she is wrong!) Kevin thinks they should find whatever monitors are watching them. Ryan appears. He torments Kevin and Victor. Victor tells "the voice" to leave Kevin and Eve alone. He'll do anything they want. He tells Kevin he's the best part of his life and hugs him. Ryan disappears. After Kevin and Eve have gone, Victor makes a deal with "the voice". He wants Kevin and Eve to have no memories of the last couple of days. He doesn't want them to remember he's alive. "The voice" assures him they will only remember seeing him dead plus they will have new memories of seeing his autopsy and cremation. Victor says he'll get back to work.

Rachel tells Chris that she has applied for the psychiatry position vacated by Kevin. They are about to leave the hospital to go and see Greg Cooper when Julie calls Chris. Rachel goes to see Gail. Chris checks her out as she walks away. Julie asks him what she's been telling Courtney. Did he tell her about Christina? Chris says he's not stupid. He says that Courtney is just messing with her mind because he dumped Courtney for Julie. Courtney sneaks up on him and says to say hi to Julie. Finished with his phone call, Courtney asks him if he has decided to help her with the test results regarding Neil's parentage. When Rachel comes back, Chris and Courtney try to continue their conversation about what Courtney needs him for, but wind up talking in vague third-person references. Rachel must postpone the visit to Cooper. Chris leaves them together alone and Rachel tells Courtney that Chris will give her whatever favor she needs, so she shouldn't worry. Courtney is amazed that Rachel caught on to what was going on between them. Chris returns with the test results. Joe is not Neil's father. Courtney tells Chris to keep his mouth shut or she'll tell Julie that he took her money. Chris says it will be difficult to find a bone marrow match if they don't know who Neil's father is. Courtney says she'll take care of it. Rachel returns and apologizes for interrupting them again. When Courtney leaves, Rachel remarks that Chris seems to have helped his ex. Chris is taken aback. He never mentioned that Courtney was his ex. Rachel says "clever me." They leave to see Greg Cooper.

And still at the hospital, Joe tells Karen that the test results were lost. He is very upset and frustrated.

At the Scanlons', Courtney makes sure she and Frank are alone. She says she has something important to tell him.

Kevin and Eve wake up in their hotel room. Kevin says he just had a dream where he was saying goodbye to Victor. It seemed so real. Eve says that's a wonderful gift, since he didn't get a chance to say goodbye before Victor died.
