Port Charles Update for Thursday, 26-Aug-1999

We start today's fair episode with Ellen going to the Nurses's Station (as far as I can tell the only place anyone works in the hospital - with the possible exception of Victor and Neil's room) and - viola! - she remembers she saw Rachel at the 1995 AMA Convention (well that does it - Rachel must be wicked then). Rachel denies ever attending such an event, Ellen realizes it must be somewhere else. Rachel tries to convince Ellen that the past is the past but Ellen ain't convinced. Ellen picks up the phone - San Francisco calling. Ellen denies interest but then accepts an opportunity to check out the facility. Matt (looking mighty good and I am mighty glad to see him looking mighty good) wonders why Ellen just doesn't take the job. A very hurt Ellen admits nothing is keeping her in Port Charles :(

Frankie baby is home!!!! Looking mighty horrible as Courtney is so sweet to point out. Frank has been riding high in Atlantic City - until Lady Luck ditched him (Frank should have known better - he has had absolutely no luck where women are concerned.) Courtney berates Frank for disappearing when their son could have needed him and tells him that Neil almost died when he was away. Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Karen and Joe discuss her medical "accident" with Neil and the possiblity of creating a bone marrow baby for him.

Matt and new best bud Karen discuss his relationship with Ellen. He admits being vrey very angry. Karen points out that Ellen was a free agent when she slept with Sebby (sigh) but Matt still can't get over it that quickly. He wonders if Karen could. Karen swears she would try. Karen urges him not to let Ellen go to San Francisco - a lifetime is a long time to be without the person you love (excuse me while I wipe away a tear.) Ellen is visited again at the ever busy nurses's desk by Rachel who not so subtly fills her with doutbs about staying in Port Charles by making rather snarky comments about playing it safe. Joe is telling Neil a story as the very busy Karen starts at IV. Courtney and hungoverish Frank come in, and Joe becomes more self righteous by the moment as Frank says he was at Atlantic City "on business" and gives Neil - oh the horror - a pair of stuffed dice!

Joe - of course - takes Frank in the hallway to yell at him for giving such a dangerous toy to poor innocent Neil and Frank offers to change places with Joe and be Neil's father. (I know I am supposed to defend Frankie being the founder of DOF and all - but how terrible - how disgusting - I mean stuffed dice! I can see why Joe got so very upset). Joe accuses Frank of being fatherly (in the sense of their drunk for a daddy) and Frankie is just about to tell him the truth (and couldn't he please? soon?) when Courtney oh so timely interrupts. Joe forbids Frank from ever seeing Neil again but Courtney says as his mama she wants Frank to visit Neil. Joe oh so nobly gives in.

Meanwhile reverse using psychology Rachel tells Ellen she really really needs to think about the job before she takes it - and then sings the praises of San Francisoc. Oh but a possible spoiler to Rachel's devious plans shows up - my man Matt (let's see how many people jump on me for that phrase.) Matt tells Ellen that maybe he was too hasty in condemning her sleepover with Seb. Ellen isn't sure she wants to try to work things out (okay she must have been hit on the head by a very hard object to even hesitate - I'd be all over Matt personally). Ellen is afraid that if she gives up San Fran that they won't be able to work things out and she'll be stuck. She agrees to discuss it with him later. Rachel looks unhappyish about the Matt situation.

It must be later - cause Matt and Ellen are talking again. Ellen isn't sure she wants another chance with Matt - he hurt her when he came down so hard about the Sebster. Matt points out he was hurt, but Ellen thinks that the trust is gone. She can only count on herself and chances are she is San Fran bound. Rachel is very pleased. Frank tries to give Karen a cool looking frog but Karen is way unreceptive. She points out all Franks faults and how Frank has taken no responsibility for his action (I love ya Frank but she's talking truth). He uncooly loses his temper and Karen tells him to stay away from her. Meanwhile Neil is sleeping and Joe has a proposition for Courtney - let's create another child to save Neil. Courtney looks stunned and our show ends.
