Port Charles Update for Tuesday, 14-Sep-1999

At GH, Joe is exhausted. He spent most of the night in the hospital library, reading articles on leukemia. Karen supports his decision to have another baby with Courtney but worries about the gossip when Courtney gets pregnant. Later, Joe tells Matt that Neil's condition is worse. He explains that he and Courtney plan to have another child to save Neil's life. Matt says he never believed in doing that, but now that he knows the people involved, he understands why it must be done. Karen and Joe both get paged to Neil's room. They run off.

Courtney is sleeping on the floor of the warehouse. She wakes up when she hears the door open and hides behind boxes clenching a wrench. Frank sneaks up behind her. She is so excited that he is there to "rescue" her that she hugs him enthusiastically until she realizes he was responsible for her being locked in there all night. What if something had happened with Neil? Frank says he kept checking on him all night. Courtney asks him if all the boxes contain stolen merchandise. Back at the Scanlon house, Courtney insists on knowing what Frank is doing with all the office furniture. Is he doing something illegal? Frank thinks it's none of her business, but Courtney thinks it is because he's Neil's father. Frank doesn't like it that she only thinks of him as Neil's father when she wants to. The phone rings and Courtney and Frank rush off when they hear Neil is worse. When they get to Neil's room, Joe and Karen are leaving. Joe is not happy to see Frank there and wants him to leave so that Neil doesn't see any tension between them. Courtney asks them not to fight and she and Frank go in to see Neil. Neil's arm hurts. Frank massages Neil's arm to make him feel better. Courtney and Joe agree, with Neil getting worse, they must move up their appointment with Dr. Neumann to get started on having a baby. When they are alone, Karen confesses to Joe that although she is trying to be supportive, it will tear her apart to see Courtney pregnant with his child. In Neil's room, he has fallen asleep. Courtney and Frank both want to have a sibling for Neil but Frank won't compromise - everyone must know he's the father from the start. When he leaves, Courtney starts to read the newspaper. The headlines are about stolen office furniture. The company's name is the same as the one she saw on the boxes where she was last night.

At home, Scott asks someone on the phone where DV is. He finds out he has "returned to the scene of the crime." Scott decides to do nothing for a couple of days. He takes out a needle and some rat poison. Later, on the phone with Lucy, he tells her what a great mother she is. When she asks him if he has run into DV, he says no. She senses something is wrong. When his doorbell rings, Lucy tells him to leave the phone off the hook because she's worried. Rachel is at the door. Scott tells Lucy who it is and they end their conversation. Rachel says she came by to return Scott's credit card. On her way out, Rachel sees the box of rat poison (and of course it's conveniently labelled as such) and says there are more humane ways to get rid of pests. Scott disagrees and says there's only one way to get rid of a pest. Rachel is obviously on to his intentions and says sometimes a dead rat is more trouble than one that's alive. Before she goes out the door, she sees a notepad with "Lake Raines" written on it. Scott packs a small bag. He has a serious look on his face. He calls Lucy and tells her that he'll be with her very soon. She assumes he's coming to Aunt Charlene's. He tells her that she and the girls will be coming home and Lucy suspects trouble. They hang up. He picks up the bag and leaves.
