Port Charles Update for Friday, 1-Oct-1999

Chris and Rachel visit Julie at Ferncliff. When Julie and Chris make serial killer jokes, Rachel tells them that she thinks the jokes are funny but warns them to be careful. A judge wouldn't find them funny. Julie tells Rachel and Chris that her mother called today. Julie explains to Rachel that Chris and her mother had an affair a couple of years ago. Julie says that she and her mother never have shared deep feelings. Julie tells them that Rachel reminds her of her mother. Julie would like Rachel to stop asking her so many questions and start showing the personal side of herself. Julie asks Rachel when was the last time she spoke to *her* mother. Rachel is stunned and fights back her emotions. She answers that it has been a very long while and asks to be excused. She leaves the room. When she returns, she says there will be things she won't discuss with Julie. She is willing to talk about her mother. She remembers when she was a little girl and she would have a dream. She would describe the dream to her mother and her mother would sketch it. Then her mother would go to her art studio for a couple of hours and come back with a beautiful watercolor painting of her dream. There would be details that Rachel didn't even describe to her. She somehow just knew. Rachel feels lucky to have had her mother in her life, even if it was only for a short while. She explains to Julie and Chris that her mother died in a car accident. Julie and Chris seem deeply moved. Chris says she must have been devastated when she was told about her mother's death. Rachel says she was there. She froze but her mother stayed calm. The car was stalled on railroad tracks. Rachel's mother undid Rachel's seat belt, pushed her out of the car and told her to run. But her mother didn't have time to save herself. She can still remember the song her mother was singing before the accident. She remembers seeing the train dragging the car a quarter of a mile. She remembers clutching her new brush. It was a brush that she just had to have. She insisted that her mother buy it for her that day. Julie says she shouldn't blame herself for what happened. Rachel says she can also remember the look on her mother's face before she died. She gets all teary-eyed and emotional. Later, Chris calls Julie. He was concerned because he saw how upset she was about Rachel and her mother. Julie feels awful after all Rachel has done for her. Rachel is at the hospital. She checks her phone for messages. The voice says "Libby (or it might be Livvy) it's your mother." Rachel is upset. On today of all days! What a coincidence, she thinks aloud. She says "So the bitch finally found me" and looks mad.

Lucy and Scott are dining at the PC Grille. They realize one of DV's men is there and watching Lucy's every move. Scott says they have to wait for Kevin to arrive before they stage their fight. Then Kevin can comfort Lucy. When Kevin and Lucy leave together, DV's man will follow them and Scott will follow him. Kevin hesitates before entering the restaurant. He calls Eve who wishes she was there for one last hug. He tells her to wait for a call from Scott. It's showtime! Lucy and Scott argue loudly about DV. Scott says he can't forget about the video of her and DV. And what about the phone call he heard? DV's man listens and watches. Scott gets heated and storms out. Kevin comes in and offers a friendly ear to Lucy. Scott calls Eve to say the stage is set. Lucy and Kevin bond over some cheesecake and discuss Lucy's problems with Scott loudly enough for the man to hear. They hold hands and I get all misty and hopeful. Scott and Eve enter with ridiculous disguises - hats and glasses. They sit at a table and Scott shows Eve which person is DV's man. They argue over who is hating this more - Lucy or Kevin? Kevin and Lucy get up to leave and pause by DV's man so he is sure to hear Lucy invite Kevin to her room for a drink. The man gets on his phone to relay the information he has on Kevin and Lucy. Scott and Eve notice him calling and are thrilled that he is falling for the act. In Lucy's room, she and Kevin assume that DV thinks they are together romantically because they have ordered champagne and he's going to spend the night. When they touch hands, they both pause and look uncomfortable. Back in the PC Grille, DV enters and his man reports that Kevin and Lucy checked into room 352 and ordered champagne. Scott and Eve hide behind menus, even though their disguises are oh-so-clever. They call Kevin and Lucy to let them know DV may be on his way up. While on the phone, Kevin and Lucy do the touching and feeling awkward bit again. Scott and Eve ditch their disguises and go to find DV. DV finds a maid outside room 352 and bribes her to let him into "his" room. He finds Kevin and Lucy naked in bed together. They look appropriately shocked and embarrassed. Scott and Eve come along and see them also. DV looks pleased.
