[Scene 1: GH Front Desk.]
Chris is sitting at the far end, by the Outgoing Mail basket, reading today's newspaper. "Julie Devlin-Ramsey on Trial Tomorrow for General Homicide Murders" A photo of Julie is underneath, to the right. (Lower is an article, headlined "Showers Forecast".) Chris crumples up the newspaper and drops it in the trash can beneath him, and puts his left hand to his mouth as he tries to think. He is wearing a black pants and a white lab coat, with a blue shirt and purple tie underneath. A stethoscope is around his neck, and a watch is on his left wrist. A gold ring is on his left hand. He rubs the bridge of his nose, then stands, grimacing.

[Chris-Sneaky music begins, and continues into beginning of next scene.]
He walks over to the desk phone, picks it up, and dials. He puts his right hand in his pocket and says: "May I speak to Julie Devlin-Ramsey please? This is her attorney, Darren Leopold." He pauses. "Yeah, I'll hold."

[Scene shifts to Ferncliff hallway.]
An arm reaches out to grab the receiver atop the pay phone, but it is Rachel, not Julie, who quickly answers, "Darren, I'm glad you called. It's Rachel." Rachel is wearing a grey suit and a small medallion on a necklace.

[Scene returns to GH.]
Chris hurriedly slams the phone down.

[Scene returns to Ferncliff]
"Hello? Darren?"

[Scene returns to GH]
Chris is clearly spooked.

[Scene 2: Lighthouse Living Room.]
Kevin is wearing a red nightshirt and Eve a dark blue nightgown patterned with white flowers. Eve is holding a spiral notepad in her right hand.
Eve, slowly: "Someone on this list," which she turns, so Kevin can see, "tampered with evidence and made it look like a bullet from Scott's gun is the one that shot DV." Kevin nods, then Eve continues, confidently.

[Mysterious plotting music begins, and continues for a bit into next scene.]
"What do you say, the two of us- you and me- we go over this list, and find out who took a bribe to set Scott up?"

[Scene 3: 6th floor Nurses' Station.]
Orderlies and nurses pass by in the background. Scott angrily slams down the telephone and places both hands in his pants pockets. Scott is wearing an olive sweater and brown pants. He walks over to the waiting area couches, where Lucy and Lee are sitting. Lucy is wearing that two-piece green sweater and yellow-green pants. Lee is wearing his glasses as well as a navy blue jacket, a pink shirt, a beige scarf, and black pants, and is sitting with his fingers crossed.
Lucy: "So, what did Matt say?"
Scott removes his left hand to gesture wildly. "Nothing! The results aren't back yet."
Lucy, soothingly: "Look, we are going to know the truth soon enough."
Scott removes his other hand, angry. "Lucy, come on. We know the truth." He calms down a bit. "We know the truth here- we're just waiting for the results to prove that I'm right."
Lucy glances at Lee, then stands and walks to Scott, smiling. "Okay. Okay, you're right. Of course you're right. Of course." She tries to brush Scott's face, but he bats her hand away.
Scott: "You know what? I should probably go in Bordisso's room there and see what he's really up to, you know."
Lee stands up and walks towards them. Scott and Lucy turn towards him. "You can't do that. He's got a guard outside the door. He's certainly no going to let the man who's suspected of the shooting inside." Lee puts his hands in his coat pocket, and gives Scott a "don't-do-anything-stupid" stare.
Scott, bitterly: "Right. What was I thinking. I'd probably just strangle him anyway."
Lee: "I know it's hard to wait Scott, but…"
Scott: "I'm not going to wait. I'll see you around." He walks towards the staircase, grabbing a black sweatshirt off of the couch as he passes.
Lucy half-heartedly calls after him, then turns back to Lee and shrugs. With a concerned sigh, she asks Lee: "Okay. So what do we do? How do we help him get through this?"
Lee: "Well, there's only one thing that will help, and that's a negative match on the blood test for paternity." He pauses. "Let's just pray that's the way it turns out."
[Fade to theme music/facial credits.]

[Scene 4: Ferncliff Visiting Room, sometime after Scene 1.]
Julie is wearing her denim prisoner's outfit and a brown hair clip, and is leaning against the table. A light dusting of snow can be seen outside, and more is falling. Rachel enters behind her, carrying a purse. Julie stands and turns, concerned. "What did Darren want?"
Slowly, Rachel responds: "It wasn't Darren on the phone. Whoever it was, they hung up." She walks towards Julie. "Now, I think we should focus on what we have to do. The sooner we get you out of here, the closer you're going to be to your baby."
Julie: "You're right."
Rachel: "Have a seat." Julie sits, and Rachel sits on the edge of the table, and continues. "Tomorrow, the DA, when she's interviewing potential jurors, she might try to upset you. It's important you keep your composure."
Julie laughs nervously. "I'm getting scared Rachel…"
Rachel cuts her off. "Well, you don't need to be. Julie, I'm going to be at the defense table with you, and Darren. If Dara starts to get to you, I want you to practice the breathing exercises that I taught you. Your affirmation- do you remember that?"
Julie: "I remember everything you taught me."
Rachel spreads her hands disarmingly. "Then there's nothing left to do." She stands and walks away.
Julie, still concerned: "And what if that isn't enough?"
Rachel turns to Julie, and is forceful. "It is going to be enough. I stayed up all night going over the potential jurors, reading about similar cases, strategizing with Darren." More soothingly, she continues: "You trust me. Everything's going to be fine."
Julie is panicky, and begins to get angry. "You know, whenever I say I'm afraid, you say 'It's all going to work out.'" Rachel is studying Julie's face, but doesn't respond. "But you're not the one who has to go into the courtroom, and face a jury with the power to decide if you live or die!"
"Julie!" says Rachel, in a get-a-grip tone, emphasizing each word: "We will win."
Julie stands and walks towards window, turning her back to Rachel. "Oh, I'm just starting to wish we could call the whole thing off."
Rachel matches Julie's tone. "I just wish you wouldn't get so panicked! I coached you on everything to expect in there."
Julie, rubbing her forehead, turns back to Rachel. "I wish Chris were here. He knows how I feel, he understands me, he calms me down."
Rachel: "There are better things around the corner."
Julie, panicking. "Stop saying that. You don't know what's going to happen." She pauses, then laughs bitterly. "And what's it to you, anyway? If I tank in court, you still go home! I go to death row!"
Rachel moves toward Julie, and speaks slowly and soothingly. "Let me let you in on a little secret of mine. When I'm scared, when I'm threatened, I visualize what I want. And somehow, it always happens for me. And you too, or you never would have made it as far as you have."
Julie is sarcastic. "So, all I have to do is close my eyes, and click my heels together three times and I'll get out of Ferncliff?" Disgusted, she walks over and stares out the window at the falling snow.
Rachel follows her, and there is a note of desperation in her voice. "Julie, I want you to think of the positive here, not the negative."

[Rachel-mystery music begins, and continues until end of scene.]
Rachel pulls a chair out. "Come sit down." Julie walks over, and Rachel repeats: "Please, sit down." Julie sits, and Rachel stands to her right. Both of them are rubbing their palms together. "Now, close your eyes." Julie rolls her eyes skeptically. Rachel is more commanding: "Close your eyes." Julie does, and Rachel leans next to Julie, and speaks hypnotically. "I want you to visualize your little girl." Rachel squats on the floor, still next to Julie, her voice very low. "And now you're holding her in your arms." She pauses. "Do you feel that precious little baby?"
Julie, eyes still closed: "Yeah."
Rachel stands and walks around behind Julie, putting her hands on Julie's shoulders, and continues in the hypnotic voice. "Now visualize your freedom. No longer being tortured."

[Music takes on an eerie note.]
Julie trembles. Rachel leans down, so that her head is right next her Julie's left ear. "You can do it Julie. You can." She continues, her voice almost a whisper. "If you just listen to what I tell you."
Julie is shaking, her eyes still closed.

[Scene 5: 6th Floor Nurses' Station, immediately following Scene 3.]
Lucy: "What if he's not your son?"
Lee firmly replies: "But he is my son, and he always will be. Whether his biological father is Lloyd Bentley or David Bordisso. It doesn't matter."
Lucy starts to pace, and Lee sits down. "You're right. You're absolutely right. Because you have been the one constant thing in his whole wacky, crazy life. And I know that he feels very lucky to have you as a father." She smiles, and sits on the edge of couch, next to Lee. Then rapidly, as only Lucy can, she prattles: "Even though I think he knows that you may not believe he's always kind of been the son that you wanted him to become."
Lee smiles ruefully. "It seems there are times when I'd say sit down," he points his thumb down, "and he'd stand up," he points thumb up. "You know?" Lee and Lucy laugh. "I guess Scott and I have fought a thousand times. But I've watched him mature through all those years, and I am very proud to call him my son."
Lucy takes Lee's right hand and grasps it with both of hers. "And I knows he's very, very proud to call you Dad- because you are everything that he admires in a man. And David Bordisso is everything he absolutely hates."
Lee: "I'm just afraid it'll crush him if the test results show that DV is his father, you know? I hope I can find the right words to reach him."
Lucy gazes fondly at Lee. "You will find the right words. You know Scott always listens to you."
Lucy hears a sigh behind her and she turns around. Matt is wearing a bright orange lab shirt over a white T-shirt, as well as jeans, and has a stethoscope around his neck, and a manila envelope in his hand. He wheels around in front of them.
Lucy: "Matt?"
Matt: "Hi. Is Scott around?"
Lucy glances at Lee, nervously. "Uh, actually, he sort of took a walk."
Matt: "Oh, well, I guess I'll just hold on to these results until he gets back." He turns away.
Lucy and Lee immediately stand up and move towards Matt, protesting.
Lucy's arms are crossed, and she is nervous. "Uh, we're not exactly sure when that might be."
Lee explains: "The waiting was getting to him, Matt. I wonder, could you release the results to me?" Seeing Matt hesitate, he adds, "As Scott's attorney?"
Matt: "Well, I guess I could bend the rules a little bit, since it's for Scott." Lucy exhales, relieved, but is still wringing her hands. Matt hands the envelope to Lee.
[Sentimental but foreboding music begins, continuing for a bit into next scene.]
Lee: "Thank you."
Lucy: "Thanks Matt."
Matt: "All right. See you later." He leaves.
Lucy calls after him. "We really do appreciate it. See you later." To Lee: "Oh boy. Okay. So now where do you think Scott is?"
Lee: "I got a good idea."
Lucy: "Then Lee, you go to him. You give him the results. I think you two should be together when he reads these." She gives a weak but brave smile. "And I know you'll make it okay, no matter what the results are." She pats Lee's shoulder as he passes her to leave. Lee goes to the elevator, and Lucy sits back down on the couch, watching him go, and sighs loudly.

[Scene 6: Docks, sometime after Scene 3.]
There is a large sign labeled "Bannisters Wharf" on the side of a building. About an inch of snow lays on the ground, and more snow is lightly falling. A foghorn sounds in the distance. Scott is wearing a dark brown sweatshirt and brown leather gloves, and walks slowly towards a streetlight. He dusts the snow off of one of the wooden piers and sits on it, and begins reminiscing.

[Sad, remembrance music begins, continuing into first few minutes of flashback.]
[Flashback to an old GH episode, circa Luke & Laura's wedding.]
[Voices only]
Lee: "Are you saying that you planned that exhibition today?"
Scott: "You bet I planned it. Of course, first I thought about the obvious- when the mayor asked…"
[Scene switches to reveal a younger Scott, Lee, and Gail.]
"…if there were any man present who could state why this couple shouldn't be joined in holy matrimony." He pauses. "You know, half that crowd thought, if I was going to show up, that would have been the time to do it. So I didn't"
Gail: "Why? Why didn't you?"
Scott, heatedly: "Because it would've been too obvious. And too easy. I wanted to wait until they were married and just pull the rug right out from underneath them. That was more fun." He tucks at his collar.
Lee: "Fun!? You consider what you did fun, Scotty?"
Scott gives an evil laugh. "Yeah, it was fun. I had a good time."
[End Flashback]

Scott sniffs, painfully, and then starts reminiscing again.

[Sad, sentimental music (Stefan & Katherine's theme) starts, and continues until end of scene]
[Flashback]
Scott: "Something else just burst wide open inside of me."
Gail: "What? What burst?"
Scott: "Pure hate." He pauses, then stands. "There was one other thing- the idea of getting even, of course."
Lee stands up, also. "Oh, Scotty, stop it! You think I don't even know my own son? You don't even sound like yourself!"
[End Flashback]

Scott stares at the sky, then bitterly remarks, "Well, maybe now we know why."
[Fade to commercial.]

[Scene 7: GH Front Desk, sometime after Scene 4.]
Chris is speaking with Rachel. Several doctors, orderlies, and nurses pass by.
Chris: "Did you talk to the director of Ferncliff about me seeing Julie?"
Rachel: "Several times, Chris, but the director's mind is made up, and I'm afraid there's nothing more I can do to get you in to see Julie." She turns and starts to walk away.
Chris, half to himself: "Well, maybe there's something I can do."
Rachel quickly turns around and returns, her voice is low and dangerous. "Like what?" she asks, darkly. "Are you going to scale the walls to Ferncliff to get in to see her? Put that thought out of your mind. The last thing we need right now are foolish choices."
Chris: "Come on, there's got to be a way I can let Julie know I'm of thinking her."
Rachel: "I'm sure she already knows." She lets her words sink in, then continues: "Excuse me. I've got patients to see." She picks up a stack of folders and walks away.
Chris cracks his knuckles, and rolls the gold ring around his finger, remembering.

[Dreamy, separated-lovers music starts, and continues until end of scene.]
[Flashback to Chris & Julie's wedding.]
[Voices only]
Julie: "Chris, um… they won't let me wear…"
[Scene shifts to Julie & Chris in wedding apparel.]
"…my wedding ring in here. Will you hold on to it for me?" She removes her ring, and holds it out to Chris.
[End Flashback.]

Chris smiles. He has an idea.

[Scene 8: Lighthouse Living Room, sometime after Scene 2.]
Eve is standing, behind Kevin, holding the spiral notepad in her left hand, and a pencil in her right. Kevin is sitting at a desk, looking at some file cards.
Eve: "Okay. We have narrowed it down to two suspects."
Kevin: "One detective first class with an overactive ambitious streak…"
Eve: "Yes, and one desk sergeant who has taken quite a few trips to Atlantic City lately." She puts down the notepad and turns to Kevin, exhaling. "What do we do now?"
Kevin: "We need more information on our candidates."
Eve: "Right. I will call my patient down at the police department and see if she can come up with anything else." She picks up a cordless phone and begins to dial.
Kevin continues: "No matter what, we're a lot closer now than we were a few hours ago to helping Scott."
Eve: "Do you think we'll be able to clear him?"
Kevin: "I think we have a shot. And it's going to feel really good to beat Bordisso at his own game."

[Scene 9: Docks, sometime after Scene 6.]
Lee is walking past the "Bannisters Wharf" sign (ha, ha). The snow falling harder. The foghorn can still be heard. Lee walks over to where Scott is.
Lee: "I can guess what you're thinking. You're wrong, Scott."
Scott, despondently: "How do you know I'm wrong?"
Lee: "Because I know you." He hands the envelope to Scott. "Matt asked me to give you this." Scott stands, takes the envelope, and opens it. He reads it, holding it so Lee can look at it over his shoulder, and then depressingly drops his hand and turns to face Lee.
Scott: "Explains it. Every lousy thing I've done in my life is because," he gestures angrily at the papers, "I'm Bordisso's son."
Lee scoffs at Scott. "It doesn't matter what the test results say, Scott. You still are who you are, you're not DV."
Scott: "Think about it! Just think about it!" He starts to pace. "Come on, look at all the stuff I've done: I've lied, I've cheated, I've been called a Shyster, an ambulance-chaser. I was a…" He stops and looks directly at Lee. "You've called me these things too, you know that."
Lee: "All right, all right! You have cut a few corners. You spent a lot of time getting yourself in and out of trouble. But there's a big difference between you and a man like DV Bordisso!"
Scott waves the envelope and papers. "No, there isn't!"
Lee replies, without a trace of doubt in his voice. "Yes, there is. Have you ever taken an old man and beat him?" Scott is silent, and Lee continues. "Have you ever tampered with the brakes of a woman's car, and endangered the life of an innocent baby? No." Scott still looks unconvinced.
Scott, slightly maniacally: "If I was pushed too far, I'm capable of a lot of things."
Lee is calm. "Look, I have known you forever, Scott, and there are lines you never cross, that DV Bordisso passed without even looking back."
Scott: "No, I crossed those lines. I've crossed them. I went to Bordisso's cabin. I was going to shoot him with rat poison! And the reason why I didn't kill him? He got away, that's all."
Lee: "That's not the reason. You wouldn't do it, Scott, and you'd never do it. And that's the difference between the two of you."
Scott: "Yeah, well, I may not be him now, but in time, I will be him. I will! I have no idea now who the hell I am."
Lee, exasperated, answers: "You're the same person you've always been, son! Come on, you're the same person I saw start high school, go to college, go to law school." Scott looks down. "Sure, you may not have always done everything exactly the way I would have done it…"
Scott interrupts. "You have always pointed that out to me."
Lee, more calmly: "I'm very proud of you. I'm very proud of the fine man that you have become." He quickly adds, "You may not have always been a pillar of the community, but you are a rock to your own family. You have children, you have Lucy, you have Gail, me…"
Scott interrupts: "I've got the blood of a madman running through my veins!"
Scott starts to walk off. Lee grabs him by the shoulders and looks straight at him. "No! You are still not his son. You're mine! And we're family."

[Faced-paced progress music begins, and continues until end of scene.]
Scott looks into Lee's eyes, and finally settles down. "You're the only father I've ever known."
Lee replies emotionally: "Look, I may not have been privileged to be there when you first entered this world, Scott, but I've loved every minute I'm spent with you. Believe me son, you are a good man. Come here." Father and son embrace. Lee pats Scott on the back, but Scott looks dazed.
[Fade to commercial.]

[Scene 10: Lighthouse living room, sometime after Scene 8.]
Kevin is sitting in an armchair. Eve is pacing in front of the couch, talking on the cordless phone. Kevin is watching and listening.
Eve: "Well, I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much. I owe you big time. I'll talk to you later. Bye." Eve hangs up and drops the phone on to the couch, and turns to Kevin, who has made an inquisitive gesture. Eve is clearly excited. "You're never going to believe this."
Kevin: "Yeah?"
Eve begins a melodramatic presentation. "The ambitious one, Officer Trent Gordon…"
Kevin: "Yeah…"
Eve: "…wasn't originally on Bordisso's case."
Kevin: "Interesting…"
Eve: "Uh-huh. You want to know what happened the night he come on?" she asks, rhetorically.
Kevin matching Eve's melodramatic tone, replies. "Pray tell."
Eve walks around Kevin's armchair as she is talking. "The bullet from Scott's gun was identified as the one that shot DV." She gives a knowing look at Kevin.
Kevin: "That is a coincidence."
Eve: "I got one more for you." She sits down opposite Kevin. "Ready for this one?" Kevin nods. "Officer Trent Gordon's girlfriend works with me at General Hospital, and the first chance I get, I'm going to talk to Patty and find out the skinny on her boyfriend." They laugh, and high-five each other. "Whoo!" shouts Eve, elated.
Kevin: "All right. While you're doing that…"
Eve: "Yes?"
Kevin: "…Victor and I will go down to the Port Charles Police Station, and see if we can glean any information from Officer Gordon directly."

[Eve and Kevin mystery/romance music begins, and segues into the next scene.]
Eve puts her hands on Kevin's knees, and gets serious. "Feels good to be working together again, like in Italy?"
Kevin: "Tough as that was."
Eve: "We make a good team, Kevin. Things didn't turn out so well when DV set me up to work alone."
Kevin holds her hands between them, and they smile at each other. "Ruining Bordisso's plans will be very sweet, indeed." Eve gives a light, quick kiss on their clenched hands.

[Scene 11: Firehouse, sometime after Scene 9.]
A playpen is set up in the living room, with Christina inside, wearing white-footsied pajamas. Lucy is crouched next to it, holding a pink blanket. Scott enters through the front door, envelope in his pocket, and Lucy stands. Scott and Lucy stare at each other, then Lucy slowly speaks. "So, you know, huh? You got the results from the test?"
Scott pats the pocket with the envelope sticking out, then removes it, and tosses in onto a table. He removes his gloves and tosses them there also. "Every DNA test they ran shows that Bordisso," he pauses, struggling over the words, "and I share the same genetic markers."
Lucy: "Oh, Scott." She walks over to him, concerned, and reaches an arm out to console him. "I am so sorry. I'm so…"
Scott shakes her arm off, and walks past her. "I've got that psychopath's blood in my veins. I'm like a time bomb here." He slaps his hands together loudly. "I can go off anytime!"
Lucy: "No!"
Scott quickly retorts: "Yes!"
Lucy: "No, you are not!"
Scott, scornfully: "Do you understand genetics? Do you understand that?"
Lucy is forceful. "What I understand is just because you are related to someone does not mean that you will become them! DV may be your biological father, but Lee raised you, and he's a good man."
Scott: "There's a hereditary that has to deal in here. You understand that?"
Lucy: "Okay, wait." She takes his arm and pulls him towards the playpen. "Come here. Turn around."
Scott: "I don't want to." He nevertheless goes anyway.
Lucy: "I want you to look at Christina." He looks. "Just come here for a minute, and look at that face, look at that little girl, and tell me that we're not going to make a difference." Christina looked up at Lucy and Scott as they approached, and now gives a little laugh. "Look at her! All the love that we give her will make her who she is, not that biological mother who abandoned her. Do you really think she'll become like her?"
Scott removes Lucy's arm from around him, and is still pessimistic. "How should I know how she's going to turn out?" He walks away and sits at the far table. Christina starts cooing.
Lucy calls after him. "Well, I know. I know because we have already made a difference in her life, by giving her all this love. Scott, I know that! Her biological mother may have given birth to her, but she is not going to make her who she is going to become." She softly calls to Christina and picks her up. "Come here. Come here, sweet pea. Come here, my little sweet pea." Lucy walks over to the table carrying Christina. "Come here. Let's talk to your Daddy, okay?" Cradling Christina, Lucy sits down next to Scott. "Oh, Scott. Look at this beautiful little girl. You look at her." Scott slowly looks up. "Do you really think that all the love we give her, and all the hugs and kisses and all the caring and all the guidance doesn't matter? Don't you realize that what we've given her already has totally affected who she's going to become?" She pauses for a second, then continues, crying a little. "Scott, it's love. Love makes all the difference in the world." She moves closer to Scott, and holds Christina in front of her. "Look at her! We are going to love her for years and years and years. Just like Lee has loved you for years and years and years, and Lee is going to keep loving you. And who this little girl is going to become is because of us, not because of her biological mother."

[Sad yet hopeful melodic music begins, and continues until end of episode.]
Christina squeals, and Scott looks up, and rubs his hand against the side of Lucy's head.

[Scene 12. Julie's sleeping quarters at Ferncliff, sometime after Scene 7.]
Julie is lying on her bed, in a white nightshirt, light blue nightpants, and white socks, She is holding the photo of Christina Rachel gave her, and is rubbing it, smiling. She sits up, and holds the picture with both hands. "Mommy's coming, Christina. I promise that we'll be together soon. And for always, my little one." She kisses the photo twice, then lies back down. She places the photo between the mattress and the bed frame, and closes her eyes, tucking one hand under her pillow. Suddenly she opens her eyes in surprise, and removes an object from under the pillow.

[Music takes on a brass note.]
Julie is puzzled. "My ring?" She looks around. "How in the world…" She stops, and smiles, and places it on her left hand. "Chris. We will be together soon, Chris." Slowly, emphasizing each word, she vows: "You, me," Julie beams, "and Christina."

[Fade to black.]
