The show opens with Scott and Lucy at the Firehouse.
Lucy: I can’t do it, I don’t think I can give anything away, is that being selfish? You know every little thing, even these little booties, have a special memory of Christina.
Scott: I don’t think you’re being selfish.
Lucy: Thank you. It’s just that every single moment we’ve had with her, I want to cherish, savor.
Scott: Are you thinking about Courtney losing Joe’s baby?
Lucy: Yeah part of it, it’s just so awful, it’s just so sad you know to think that Neil lost that special chance to have a bone marrow donor and everything is just lost!
Scott: I know, I know, it’s getting to me, too.
Lucy: You know I’ve been thinking lately that maybe we need to do a little bit more, you know, maybe we need to find out more about Christina, her family history, in case an emergency or something serious came up with her health you know, like Neil’s situation, maybe we should find out more.
Scott: No, no, no, no, Lucy, I know where you’re headed with this and I’m not going there.
Lucy: Scott come on, we need to find out what DV knows about Christina’s mother. Who is Christina’s Mother? DV knows!
Scott: Bordisso, first of all, is a lying coyote.
Lucy: Maybe he’s changed! You know maybe it’s sunk into that soul of his that you are his son and maybe that’s changed the way he feels about you.
Scott: He’s poison, he’s poison, and I want you to stay away from him, OK?
Lucy: Ok, ok….
Scott: We’ll find another way to get what we need to know about Christina.
Lucy: Yeah, yeah.
Intensive care at GH – Courtney’s room. Frank is watching her sleep.
Courtney: It really happened, didn’t it?
Frank: Yeah.
Courtney: Yeah. For a split second I thought maybe it was all just a bad dream.
Frank: I wish I could say it was, but the baby’s gone Courtney.
DV’s hospital room – Rachel enters.
DV: I didn’t hear you knock, Doctor.
Rachel: I’ve been to the bank this morning.
DV: Is this information supposed to be therapeutic?
Rachel: My business account has been closed DV.
DV: I felt that you didn’t get the message the last time we spoke.
Rachel: I am not one of your little flunkies that you can just wave your hand and I’ll disappear, that’s not how it works.
DV: That’s exactly how it works. (Rachel knocks a cup out of his hand).
Opening credits
DV: Consider yourself fortunate. I can do a lot more than just cutting you off.
Rachel: You’re in no position to threaten me, DV.
DV: No, no, no, no. I’m just reminding you I could tell Julie that you’re not what you seem. How much will she trust you then?
Rachel: She’d never believe you over me.
DV: If she knew the real reason behind this compulsion to have her released, I think she would.
Rachel: You’d never do anything so idiotic.
DV: Perhaps it could be arranged to have you share a padded cell with your favorite patient. I could have you put in a little box for a very long time. Not that you’d last even for a short time – you’d be clawing the walls within an hour.
Rachel: I don’t have to stand her and listen to this. (She leaves)
DV: Au revoir. (He laughs to himself)
Back to Intensive Care
Frank: If I hadn’t been so damned stubborn, you wouldn’t have been out in the storm…..
Courtney: Frank, Frank! This is not your fault. Karen is the one responsible for us losing our baby. She thought I was carrying Joe’s baby and she hated it, and she saw my car coming down that road and she ran me right off it!
Frank: I know you’re upset but it was an accident. If Karen was in your lane she hit some ice, or…
Courtney: It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what she intended Frank. She forced me off the road. And she made my lose my baby, and she took away Neil’s best chance at getting well and I am going to make sure, I’m going to make sure she regrets it.
Sixth floor lobby at GH. Karen is looking at the picture of Courtney kissing Frank from Venice ten years ago.
Scott: Karen! (She quickly puts the picture away).
Karen: Hi.
Scott: Are you all right?
Karen: I’ve had better days.
Scott: Has Courtney said anything about the accident?
Karen: No, but does it really matter? I shouldn’t have been driving in those conditions.
Scott: She shouldn’t of either.
Karen: We were both pretty irresponsible the night of the storm.
Scott: Well don’t beat yourself up over it ‘cause that’s not gonna do any good.
Karen: Joe! Did you see Courtney, did you speak to her?
Joe: Yeah.
Karen: Well did she say something about the accident?
Joe: She said she swerved and lost control of the car – because you were driving on the wrong side of the road.
Karen: That’s not the way I remember it happening.
Joe: What’s the point of trying to figure out who has the biggest percentage of blame? I mean the baby’s gone. Why debate how it happened?
DV’s room.
DV: Must be my lucky day.
Lucy: Well I would think you’d consider every day very lucky considering how close you came to dying.
DV: Somehow, I doubt you came here to give me spiritual advice.
Lucy: Actually I did. I came here because this is your last chance to save your soul.
DV: Lucy – my savior.
Lucy: You called me before you got shot and told me you knew the name of Christina’s birth mother.
DV: Did I?
Lucy: You most certainly did and you know exactly what I’m talking about – I want her name. And by the way, I’m not going to leave until I get it.
Commercial
Lucy: You came after us before you knew that Scott was your son. Before you were aware you made an awful mistake.
DV: You assume that changes things. A biological fact does not alter the events of my life, nor my hatred for your fiancé.
Lucy: But you can’t stay completely unaffected by this – you can’t possibly. No one could.
DV: I wouldn’t lift a finger to help Scott Baldwin.
Lucy: Do you hear yourself? Do you hear what you’re saying? You almost died – didn’t that teach you anything? Didn’t you realize how precious life is? How few chances you actually get to right a wrong. I’m giving you that chance, you have that chance right now and you’re going to throw it away?
DV: I refuse to be a hypocrite. I will live my life as I always have.
Lucy: Well isn’t that admirable. That’s wonderful. Ok, so. Do you realize what you’re saying to me? A real man, a REAL human being would have the courage to admit he made a mistake – you don’t. OK – then good, good for you, bully for you – you get to be, not a hypocrite, I’ll give you that, but you know what you are? A coward.
Rachel is in a hallway at GH – in flashback territory. A memory from her
childhood.
Young Rachel: (talking to a doll) I’ll take care of you ‘cause I’m your real Mom. I am. I would never put you in a box – never ever. I’ll make sure you aren’t alone in the dark, not for one second. Your real Mommy would never do that, never, ever, ever.
End of flashback.
Rachel: No one is gonna put me in a box ever again.
Courtney’s hospital room.
Frank: You need time to get your strength back.
Courtney: I can’t stop thinking about Neil. Every time I imagine telling him about the baby – I feel sick.
Frank: He really wants to see you. He’s worried about you.
Courtney: And I’m, I am so worried about him. But oh, if I see him right now, I’ll fall apart.
Frank: I know – it’s OK. Joe told him that you weren’t ready for visitors yet.
Courtney: Neil wanted a baby brother. I wanted a boy too, but then I started thinking about a girl.
Frank: Courtney, don’t do this to yourself.
Courtney: What was it Frank? Was it a boy or a girl?
Frank: Courtney
Courtney: Please – I need to know.
Frank: It was a girl.
Courtney: I bet you wish it was a boy, too, like Neil.
Frank: Actually, I was hoping for a girl. A little blonde one who as soon as she learned to walk would come marching into the room put her hands on her hips and start bossing everybody around.
Courtney: Where would she learn such a thing?
Frank: I can’t imagine. (Courtney takes Frank’s hand in both of hers)
Courtney: I love you too, Frank. In case you hadn’t figured that out by now.
Frank: It took me awhile. I think I finally got it.

DV’s room
Lucy: You know Lloyd Bentley was Scott’s father, but he isn’t. You are. So you have been obsessing on this past that is wrong. Aren’t you finally ready – don’t you want to just be free – just to let it go.
DV: You have no idea what I want.
Lucy: I know that you wanted Meg to love you. And for a while – she did.
DV: Deeply.
Lucy: And she loved Scott – deeply. And don’t you think it would be a wonderful gift to honor the love you have for Meg by helping the son that you two created together. You can help Scott keep his child – please. David please – tell me who Christina’s birth mother is – just give me her name.
DV: You won’t like the answer.
Lucy: Tell me anyway. Tell me – I have to know her name. Please.
A nurse enters the room.
Nurse: Mr. Bordisso’s heart rate’s up you need to go.
Lucy: No - I just need one more minute with him.
Nurse: You have to leave now. He’s obviously upset by your visit. Are you having any pain Mr. Bordisso?
DV: No.
Lucy: He’s fine – just give me another minute.
Nurse: You leave now or I’ll call that guard outside and have you escorted out.
Lucy: I don’t want to leave right now, please.
Nurse: Guard!
Lucy: Please, don’t make me leave… all right. (The guard takes Lucy out of the room)
The chapel at GH. Joe is sitting and Frank enters.
Joe: Do you remember your first communion, Frank?
Frank: Yeah everyone kept telling me that they were going to turn the wine into the blood of Christ and it freaked me out.
Joe: I remember I was so proud of you when you drank it anyway. You were my hero.
Frank: Well it didn’t take much back then.
Joe: You know the thing I remember most about my communion was Pop. It was the only time he ever said he was proud of me.
Frank: And I remember all the other times when he didn’t say it.
Joe: You see that’s one of the reasons that I wanted to be so different for Neil. I want to make sure he’s happy every day. Everyday of his life.
Frank: You do Joe. I know what you mean. You want to give your kids all the love that you never got.
Joe: Well I mean if you do, they’re supposed to be OK, you know?
Frank: And when it doesn’t work out, it feels so wrong.
Joe: I tried to save my baby Frank. I really did. I just couldn’t.
Frank: No, but you’ll save Neil. You’re stubborn.
Joe: I got it from my big brother.
Frank: But in the end, you always were the champ. And you will be again this time. You’ll find a way.
Courtney’s room – Karen enters.
Karen: Hi.
Courtney: Why didn’t you tell me you were driving the other car?
Karen: My main focus was to save you and the baby.
Courtney: Yeah right. I guess one out of two isn’t bad.
Karen: I’m sorry you had a miscarriage.
Courtney: Are you?
Karen: You can’t seriously believe I meant for this to happen.
Courtney: Why not?
Karen: It was an accident, a horrible accident….
Courtney: Oh come on Karen – you finally got what you wanted. Admit it.
Karen: Admit what?
Courtney: You got rid of Joe’s and my baby.
Sixth floor Lobby
Scott: Lucy? I didn’t expect to run into you here.
Lucy: Hi pal.
Scott: I thought you were going to your office.
Lucy: I came here to see DV.
Scott: Aww damn it - Come on – I told you not to do that I told you to stay away….
Lucy: I know you told me but I had to Scott. I have to find out what he knows about Christina.
Scott: Lucy you lied to me, you lied to me - you went back on your word. I mean come on - I told you to stay away.
Lucy: I know you did but listen, I’ll explain all that later, I need to do this – I got this close, I’m telling you he got this close to telling me about Christina’s mother, see, then I got thrown out of the room.
Scott: Well anything he would have said would have been a lie, because he speaks with a forked tongue, you know that.
Lucy: No I don’t think so not this time; I really believe I was getting to him. He’s gonna tell me I just have to get back into that room.
Scott: Absolutely not!
DV’s room – Rachel has returned.
DV: I want you out of here, now.
Rachel: You asked me to take Julie’s case because you knew how much it would mean to me. I’m not gonna let you ruin it for me now.
DV: You have no power over me.
Rachel: And you none over me. Just think about it. We both know who tried to kill you DV, I can make it very easy for them to get in here. You think they’ll miss a second time?
DV: I should tell Lucy who Christina’s mother is just to spite you. (He begins to remove his oxygen tube and tries to get out of bed)
Rachel: Not a good idea – look at you – you’re defenseless. I’m the one in control now.
DV: You’re not in control of anything.
Rachel: Oh careful. Careful DV. (She moves away from the bed – forcing DV to come after her)
DV: I’ll have you put in a cage, a box where’s it dark, for a very, very long time.
Rachel: You see – you see here I’m not the one shaking – YOU ARE!
DV lunges at her and falls to the floor and the show is OVER.
