Port Charles Update for Tuesday, 18-Jan-2000

The show begins by Kevin stopping by to pick up Eve at the hospital. She tells him that she can't go, she is covering for Joe and Karen. Neil is missing and disappeared right before his Chemo. Eve beleives he probably left because he had just had to much.
Kevin- tells Eve that he doesn't think so because he had just spoken with Neil shortly before then and he had a lot of problems on his mind but Chemo wasn't one of them.
**Scotty and Rachel walk up to the nurses station.

Rachel informs Kevin and Eve that the jury has recessed for the night.
Eve-" That's good, that means Julie is locked up safe for one more night"
Kevin informs Scotty that Neil is missing just as Eve is paged over the intercom.
Scott says that he should probably go and find Karen. Eve gets off the phone and tells them that Joe has found Neil and they are bringing him into the E.R.

Flash to the E.R.

Joe comes into the E.R. giving orders to the nurse. He wants Neil started on a pulse ox, draw blood, and get a chest x-ray. The nurses start to undress Neil as Joe talks to Karen and Courtney.

Joe tells Karen that Neil's breathing is labored his cough is wet and his fever is sky high. Courtney tells Joe that she thought he was coming down with something but it must have caught up with him by being out in the weather. Joe tells them that Neil must have been slightly out of his mind with the fever because when he found Neil, Neil looked into his eyes and said "Your not my father".

Kevin asks Scott if he could have a word with him about Julie. Rachel says that Kevin should talk with her since she is Julie's doctor. Kevin assures her that this is between him and Scotty.
(Scott and Kevin walks off) Rachel tells Eve that she beleives Kevin is upset. Rachel beleives that Kevin is still trying to grasp at helping Julie. Eve tells Rachel that Kevin unlike some other doctors beleives in helping his patients.

In the lobby.

Kevin tells Scotty that if the jury comes back with a not guilty verdict that they can go to the director at Fern Cliff and have Julie committed involuntarily. At least until they can prove that she is not a danger to herself or others.
Scotty tells Kevin that the director can't do that. That would be taking away Julie's constitutional rights. Only a judge can do that. Kevin says that is fine then they go to the judge and ask him. Scott informs Kevin that if they do the first thing that will happen is the judge will call Dr. Locke who in turn would tell him that Julie is perfectly mentally fine. Kevin then says taht Scotty and he could then testify that Julie is not fine and maybe get her committed for one more month. Scott tells Kevin that is not such a good idea because he doesn't think that Julie should be locked up any longer.
Kevin is stunned he tells Scott that he cannot beleive that he has changed his mind about Julie.
Scott- I've spent a lot of time with Julie these last few weeks and I beleive she has turned her life around. I don't beleive having her locked up in a mental institution is such a good thing any more. Besides that when was the last time that you treated her.
Kevin- 6 months ago.
Scott - Well she may have been a danger then but she is not now. A lot can change. If she was a danger then why did she help the two gaurds in the van and save Christina when she had the chance to escape.
Kevin is in shock that Scotty has changed his mind about someone who terrorized the whole town.
Scotty- That was Cooper's doing that was not Julie's fault. Julie may still need some help but she doesn't need to get it from being locked up in Ferncliff. Scotty then defends Rachel. She hasn't done such a bad job with Julie.
Kevin - Yea Rachel hasn't done such a bad job alright(sarcastically). First you defend Julie and now you are defending Rachel.

Flashes to Neil(you can hear him wheezing and breathing). Courtney tells him that he is going to be alright that he just needs to rest. (Neil is already asleep.) Karen comes in and tells them they are ready to move Neil to pediatric ICU.
Courtney didn't think that he was bad enough for ICU. Joe informs her that Neil has micoplasmal pneumonia. He is stable but he needs to be treated, his blood is not getting the oxygen that it needs for him to function. The reason she thinks Neil is getting better is because the (big word for tylenol) is doing it's job.
They wheel Neil to ICU.
Courtney stops in the hallway when she sees Frank.
She tells him that Neil has pneumonia. She also tells Frank that Neil informed Joe that he was not his father.
Frank is stunned.

Karen is day dreaming of Joe thinking about Neil.

Joe is being thoughtful about wanting to save his son's life. That nothing was more important than that. Scott comes up and wants to know how Neil is. Karen informs Scotty that he is fine. Scotty realizes that Karen is stressed. Scotty takes her aside and she spills the beans. She tells dear dad that she has found out that Joe is not Neils son and she has not told him yet.( she blabs the whole story) Karen beleives that Neil must have overheard her talking to Frank in the stairwell about the paternity issue and realized what was going on. She was only trying to protect Neil by not telling him when he is so vulnerable. Now she doesn't know if she should tell Joe. Scott tells her that she should have told that Neil is a strong kid and he likes Frank anyway. (Courtney, Mary, Frank, and Victor walk up) Scott tells them if there is anything that he can do just to let him know. Mary beleives they all just need to pray right now.

Frank and Karen walk off to the side.
Karen (to Frank)- Neil must have over heard us talking in the stairwell.
Frank doesn't beleive so.
Karen beleives they should tell Joe the trueth.
Frank - Yes Joe should know the trueth but not now. It's not the right time. We need to wait until things calm down around here first.
Frank points his finger at Karen and tells her that if Neil found out the trueth about Joe not being his father is because Karen is always bringing it up. ( Just as Courtney walks up behind him and over hears.)
Courtney (to Karen) So this is all your fault.

Screen goes to Eve and Kevin.

Eve tells Kevin to go on home without her. Kevin is frustrated and tells her that Scotty not only now beleives that Julie is innocent but that Rachel is also a good doctor. Eve can't beleive that Scott has changed his mind. Eve hopes that Rachel is not trying to turn onto Scott while Lucy is away. Kevin heads to the elevator. (guess who is in the elevator with him, Rachel)

They argue about Kevin being obcessed with Julie. The same way he was obcessed with Felicia. She then starts throwing his past up into his face. Kevin has had enough so he presses the stop button on the elevator. He starts ranting at Rachel that she is letting a dangerous person go free. That she is out for something and he hasn't figured out what it is yet but they need to get it out into the open. Rachel doesn't hear a word that he says. She is about ready to explode with panic about being trapped inside the small elevator. She rushes over to the elevator button and pushes it. She pushes her way past Kevin and tells him that he cannot keep her locked away in a small box and runs down the hallway.

Back in the waiting room Courtney is frustrated with Karen. She asks Karen if it is trye. Frank tries to calm her down. Instead she blurts out to Karen (loudly) "Why did you have to go and let Neil find out that Frank is really his father." Everyone overhears. Mary, Victor and Scott all turn around. Courtney asks Frank how long Karen has known the truth. Why did she mention it in public where neil might have overheard. Scott comes up to Courtney and tells her that Karen has been very upset about this. Courtney can't beleive that Karen has blabbed her mouth to everyone. (Kevin has also walked up in the background.) Courtney looks at Karen and tells her that she just can't leave well enough alone. First she kills the child that might have saved Neil's life and now this. She lets Neil find out. She tells Frank that she can't beleive that Karen knew and he didn't tell her. She told him that he knew that she didn't want Neil to know right away that Joe was not Neil's father. Behind thim Joe says what did you just say. Everyone looks at Joe and starts stuttering. Karen says Joe. Then Frank says we will explain everything to you lets just go somewhere quiet. Joe just want's someone to answer his question. Is it true that Neil is not his child. Courtney sadly looks at him and says no your not. As everyone is looking on amazed and saddened.
