Port Charles Update for Monday, 31-Jan-2000

The show opens with Karen looking in on Neil’s room. Joe is watching him sleep. She enters and excitedly tells him that she got Neil back into the clinical trial, he will get the new medicine. Joe says he doesn’t know how to thank her, (but he thinks of something later) and Karen says she wanted it as much as him. Joe then makes another remark referring to him not being Neil’s Dad.

Frank is in the chapel and Courtney walks in, Frank invites her to stay but she says she feels out of place. Kevin walks in and Frank and Courtney explain that Neil is not eating and the feeding tube predicament.

Scott wants to know why Chris and Julie are there, Chris explains they are getting passport papers. Lucy calms Scott and tells them that they just signed the papers and Christina is officially their daughter. Julie exclaims that she is too late.

Scott wants to know what she means, Julie begins to say that Christina is, but Chris interrupts saying that they’re too late to wish them luck and now have to offer congratulations. Julie and Lucy congratulate each other and Lucy thanks Julie for Christina, for finding her that is, she explains. Scott and Lee feel Julie was very agitated and “nutty”. Gail and Lucy explain that she is just nervous about her first day back. Scott is still suspicious though.

Julie cries in the hall that she can’t leave her baby and wants to go back in there, Chris explains that it is too late but they just need a new game plan, they will get her back though.

Kevin, Frank, and Courtney thank Karen for getting Neil back into the trial. Courtney explains that Kevin will try to get Neil to eat and Joe reluctantly agrees. Kevin, Karen, and Joe leave to discuss Neil’s physical condition. Frank has to go to get his cell telephone but then he and Courtney will give Neil the good news. Mary enters and asks how Neil is doing. Courtney explains the good news and Mary says she knew Karen would come through. Courtney is glad Karen fixed what she messed up. Mary accuses her of lying to protect herself, not Neil. Frank enters and tells Mary to lay off.

Obviously love is blind because Frank says Courtney is not to blame, he is. He apologizes to Courtney when Mary leaves to see Neil. Being the kind, caring person she is, Courtney explains that Mary hates her and will hate Frank too. Frank could loose his family she explains, and Frank tells her that she and Neil are his family. They leave to get coffee.

Karen is confident in Kevin. Joe tells Karen he is thinking of a feeding tube. She tells him that he always makes the right decisions when it comes to Neil. He says she helps him make a lot of them. Karen asks Joe if he will go with her to Scott and Lucy’s adoption party for Neil. Joe, remembering that Karen has been working her butt off to help Neil, coldly tells her that the only thing he is interested in is Neil and no, he will not be going. See told ya he would find the right way to thank her!

Scott and Lucy return home to the beautifully decorated firehouse and tell Aunt Charlene that the adoption is final, Christina is a Baldwin. Lucy cannot believe this is all real. Serena gives Christina a clean dirty kitty. Lee and Scott talk about how he felt when he adopted Scott, he is his missing piece, put back in place. Scott says it does not get any better than this and Lucy says it does not, she has the family she always wanted. She’s not going to let anybody take it away from her.

Chris and Julie enter his apartment and there are roses, caviar, and champagne, all her answers from the questionnaire, how sweet! Chris is sorry they could not get Christina, but assures he will get her eventually. Julie is not sure she can not let anyone know Christina is hers. Chris tells Julie that life isn’t fair and they will fight for Christina, they fought and won for her freedom and they will win again. Julie cannot believe that all this is real and she’s spending the first night at home with her husband. Both Chris and Julie are tense and Chris tells her he fixed up the guestroom for her. Julie is surprised and Chris says he won’t push her, they have their whole lives to spend together.

Kevin enters Neil’s room. Neil is dull and listless. Kevin brought him a slushy but Neil has not touched his dinner and is not hungry. Neil does not want to eat because he is just going to die anyway. Through some expert questioning Kevin discovers that Neil does not want to eat because now that Joe isn’t his dad life isn’t looking so hot. He tells Neil that all those people were wrong about him being a fighter, he asks him what those other sick kids he visited would think when they heard about him. However, personally Kevin knows that Neil is way to smart to think he could solve anything by hurting himself. Kevin tells Neil they will talk later and leaves the room. As Kevin watches Neil picks up the slushy and begins to drink.

Courtney and Frank want to know why it was so quick and how things went. Kevin says he saw Neil drink and Joe wants to know how to get him to maintain an appetite. Kevin says to be patient and Joe tells him they may not have the time.

Back at the party Serena asks Karen when Joe is coming and Karen explains he had to work but send his best wishes, Lucy and Scott exchange a look upon hearing that news. Scott says they went through so much bad stuff they appreciate the good times so much more. Lucy tells Karen that things with Neil will be good again, and Serena takes Karen to see the new dirty kitty. Lucy doesn’t want to wake up if this whole thing is a dream; Scott assures her that no one will take any of it away from them.

Chris is tossing and turning when Julie comes to his door. She explains that it is so quiet, she got used to the noise and commotion at Ferncliff, and she was feeling alone. She wonders if Chris would hold her. He smiles and moves over. Julie eases herself into his bed and arms wrapped around on another they go to sleep.
