Port Charles Update for Friday, 18-Feb-2000

Karen is upset and frustrated when she reads Neil's test results. Scott and Lucy come along with Christina. Karen tells them all about Joe, Neil, Frank, Courtney, the bone marrow transplant and Joe's subsequent suspension. Karen goes to Neil's room, where Frank and Courtney are sitting at his bedside. When they come out to talk to her, Karen tells Frank and Courtney that Neil's results are not good. His fever went up and he has pneumonia. Courtney is distraught. She knows that Neil barely made it through his last bout. Frank becomes emotional. He throws a chair and walks away. Later, Karen, Courtney and Frank(all calmed down now) watch Neil sleep and hope that the drugs he has been given will help him. Karen goes to leave but Courtney stops her and gives her a heartfelt thank-you. Frank tells Courtney that he never should have left Neil's side. He should never have let Joe get near Neil. They wonder why Joe did what he did. Courtney thinks that maybe Joe still wants to call all the shots. Frank and Courtney go back into Neil's room. Courtney is exhausted. Frank encourages her to leave. He starts to read to Neil. When Neil wakes up, Frank talks to him, but Neil calls out for Joe. When Courtney comes back in and asks if Neil has been awake yet, Frank tells her no. When Frank leaves, Courtney continues reading to Neil.

Kevin comes into the Recovery Room. Joe is alone, having a beer. He approaches Kevin and asks about Neil's condition. Kevin reminds him that he is not Neil's doctor. Joe keeps asking. Kevin gives him details. He finally tells Joe that if he wants to help Neil, he should stay away from him. Chris comes in, sees Joe and Kevin, and asks loud enough for all to hear "this must be the place where Suspended Doctors Anonymous meets, right?" Kevin reminds him that he was the one who gave an unauthorized drug to a patient for months. After making some typical wiseass remarks, Chris turns mellow and tells Joe that he hopes Neil will be ok. Julie comes in and asks Joe how Neil is and Joe tells her it's none of her business. After Chris tells Julie about the transplant, she vows that nobody will go near her daughter with needles again. Chris has to return to GH for an emergency. He wants Julie to leave also, but she remembers how Rachel wanted her to make her own decisions and she stays.

Lucy and Scott discuss how surprised they are about what Joe has done. Lucy hopes that Christina did not donate her bone marrow for nothing. Before they go home, they want to see Kevin and ask him "the question."

Scott finds Karen in the on-call room. He asks her what she would have done if she was in Joe's position. She'd like to believe she would have let the team of doctors make decisions. Karen asks Scott if Joe is in legal trouble. Scott says that he could be facing a malpractice suit. Karen discusses her mixed feelings. She feels that Joe insulted her as a doctor. However, she knows that Neil needs Joe now. She says that Joe has put them all in a bad position.

Lucy brings Christina into the Recovery Room. Julie gets all excited and talks to her. Joe interrupts. He needs to speak with Lucy. Lucy tells Joe that she isn't mad at him. She goes to join Kevin at his table. Julie lurks and listens as Lucy asks Kevin to be Christina's godfather. She gets upset and leaves. Kevin is reluctant at first to accept. Lucy tells him how both she and Scott want him. He accepts. Frank stops in to get carry-out. Joe asks him if he can see Neil. Frank says that he knows this must be tearing Joe up inside. Now he must know how everyone else felt after the transplant when they couldn't help Neil. Scott comes in and is happy about Kevin being Christina's godfather. After Kevin leaves, Scott teases Lucy about putting Christina in spandex for the christening.

Julie goes to GH and tells Chris about Kevin being Christina's godfather. She thinks he will make decisions concerning Christina to spite Julie. Chris reminds her that Kevin doesn't know she is Christina's mother. Julie says "he can't keep getting away with this."

Kevin is outside the Recovery Room. Someone runs up to him and asks if he is Kevin Collins. The person hands him a manila envelope. Kevin opens it. It contains obituaries. A name is crossed off. Written in its place is Kevin Collins, R.I.P.
