Port Charles Update for Tuesday, 22-Feb-2000

Julie and Chris are in bed, discussing how they both took a chance when they got married. They agree that their lovemaking was a rousing success. Julie makes breakfast and they do a lot of kissing and flirting. They are surprised when Rachel stops by for a visit. She says she's there because Julie seemed upset when she left her a message. Julie tells her about Lucy and Scott asking Kevin to be Christina's godfather. She was freaking out but Chris has been wonderful and got her through it. Chris walks Rachel to the door and suggests she calls before she drops by next time. When they are alone, they discuss that Rachel seemed "put out" because Julie didn't need her help. Julie tells Chris how Rachel wants her to stop depending on her. Chris says that maybe that is what Rachel says, but it is not what she really wants.

Joe is at GH to drop off notes on former patients. Karen comes along and tells him he shouldn't be hanging around because he is on suspension. She saw him near Neil's room, but didn't tell Frank and Courtney because she didn't want to upset them. Joe asks Karen what Neil thinks about him not being there. What have Frank and Courtney told Neil? Karen says that Neil has been sleeping a lot. Joe pleads with Karen to let him see Neil. He reminds her how Neil liked to hold his hand. He doesn't want Neil to think he abandoned him. Joe becomes very tender and convincing and we can see Karen's heart going out to him as she tries to remain firm. She says she adores Neil too. She thinks Joe should leave GH now.

Outside Neil's room, Alan tells Frank and Courtney that Neil is stable. He tells them that Joe will be dealt with. Frank and Courtney go into Neil's room to read to him. Neil wakes up. He says "Where's Joe? Why hasn't he come to see me?" Neil falls asleep. Frank and Courtney go outside his room and discuss Neil's being upset over not seeing Joe. Courtney reminds Frank that Neil has always had so much faith in Joe. How can they take that away from him? In the cafeteria, Joe flashes back to when Karen found him after the bone marrow transplant. Frank comes in. Joe says he's almost ready to leave. Frank says he wants to talk but Joe says he doesn't want to hear. Frank says it's about Neil. He tells Joe "He's not doing so good. He wants to see you."

Courtney asks Karen how Neil is doing. Karen says there is no change and tries to explain his condition. Courtney goes ballistic on her. She wants Karen and GH to do more for Neil. She gets louder and more emotional. She finally realizes she went over the line, but Karen tells her it's ok. Neil needs a fighter like her for a mother.

Alan explains to a doctor that the budget restrictions are keeping the hospital from running as efficiently as possible. Rachel overhears and offers her help to Alan. She says that she thinks his responsibilities must be overwhelming. She can do his paperwork or anything else he needs.

Joe is in Neil's room. Neil wakes up and sees him. He puts his hand on the inside of the plastic and Joe puts his hand on the outside. Neil grins. Joe gives him the thumbs-up sign. Frank and Courtney watch from outside. Frank's eyes fill up with tears. Courtney hugs him from behind.
