Lucy – dressed in a rather conservative (okay, it’s conservative if your name is Lucy Coe) blue top and skirt frets to Scott that maybe this isn’t the right outfit after all. She wants to wear the right thing. Scott has really bad news (again) for Lucy. He just talked to Lee on the phone. Lucy can’t be at the hearing. Only immediately involved people and their lawyers can. Lucy is hurt and Scott is sorry, but promises all of this will be over soon. Scott kisses Lucy and leaves. Lucy, in tears, picks up Clean Kitty and sadly answers the ringing phone. It’s her Doc. Lucy is so glad Doc called. Kevin wants to know what happened. He guesses (in his oh-so-astute way) that Lucy could use a friend. Lucy says that’s a very good place to start (and she is right – all the truly great lovers are also friends – I know – I never give up!).

Lawyer Barrows and Julie discuss the solid proof they need for the hearing. Chris, so sincerely, thanks Karen for scheduling him for work on the same day as Julie’s trial. Karen denies doing so, but can’t say she’s unhappy it turned out that way. She drops a few files, hands them to Deniece, and goes off to shower. Deniece in her amazingly cool way tells Chris that now they know who the boss is. Chris tells her that they’ll see.

Karen, towelly dressed, heads for the shower and Chris heads inside the sacred Chief Resident room. He looks here, he looks there, he looks everywhere until he finds a bottle of pills. Hello.

Lucy drops in on Kevin and he’s glad to see her. He didn’t like the way she sounded on the phone. Lucy’s universe is all out of synch and Scott isn’t helping. Kevin knows about the corner-cutting adoption fiasco. Lucy has no rights to Christina. Kevin insists that she does. Lucy is upset that the judge won’t even consider her feelings about Christina, thanks to Scott. This puts Kevin in the position of Scott defending, which he does by saying he doesn’t condone Scott’s actions but in Scott’s own lunatic way he was thinking of Lucy (I love Kevin’s line of defense LOL). Lucy knows, but she is very scared. She’s been here before. Serena, BJ, me and you and the baby we lost. By Kevin’s reactions, we know he feels Lucy’s pain (after all – he lived all of that with her.) Lucy had thought that finally her hopes and dreams had been answered, but now she sees them crumbling again and she can’t go through this once more. She needs to ask Kevin – what should she do? Kevin, moved, tells Lucy to fight. And then fight harder. And he’ll fight with her – he promises (and what a fierce promise!) Lucy knew that her Doc would – she can count on him (of course). Big major hug – tears in Lucy’s eyes – and of course there is no way such a special moment can last – I bet you can’t guess who barges in. No guess. Really. Come on – I know you can do it.

You are so smart! Yes, of course it is Eve. Eve has a question for Kevin but it quickly fades from her mind as she sees Kevin and Lucy still embraced. Bad time asks Eve? No, replies Lucy, it was but thanks to this guy it’s not anymore. Eve says that Kevin has that effect on people. Lucy hopes Eve knows how lucky she is (I know how lucky Eve is). Kevin keeps telling Eve she’s lucky. Lucy needs to go. Kevin wants Lucy to call him if there are any changes. Lucy says she will call Kevin first (as she should). Kevin wants Lucy’s promise. Eve watches – what is the word I am looking for? – warily maybe? Lucy indeed promises. And so ends my fav scene of the week – but boy was it a good one. K/L forever (just a bit of propaganda I thought I’d throw in.)

But wait – there’s more.

The hearing begins. Lee has something to add to his statement, Scott tried legally and in every way he could to locate Christina’s mother. Julie, Lee and Scott debate whether or not it was possible for Julie to claim Christina from her old home (aka mental institution.) Scott insists Julie abandoned Christina. And further more, Scott doesn’t think Julie deserves to call herself a mother. Julie yells at Scott, Scott yells at Julie, the judge snaps at both of them.

The here-come-the-judge believes birth mothers are best when possible, but there is the fact that Christina has bonded with the family she lives with. Lawyer Barrows points out that Scott and Lucy let Christina wander in the cold on New Year’s Eve. Julie and Scott then “discuss” if Julie was rescuing or stealing Christina. The judge orders Lee to control his client – good luck there Lee. Lee tells Scott to behave (yeah, that’ll do it.) Chris comes in and does intense whispering with Julie and Barrows but Scott has him thrown out. The judge points out that Julie had Christina in her arms and still did not claim her. She is about ready to rule against Julie.

Mr. Barrows can prove Scott is not a responsible parent, left Christina with a drug addict. Scott defends Karen – she has been clean for years. No, says the other team, she’s using drugs again. Speaking of the druggie – er – Karen she meets Lucy and once again apologizes for the bump on Christina’s head. Lucy insists there is no need. They discuss the hearing. Karen brings up Scott’s new case which Lucy knew nothing about so Karen explains all about Claire. She wants coffee (that should really wire her on top of all the drugs) but Lucy has something she needs to do.

And here is me - lucky me – getting to describe a K/E scene. Okay, Kevin is ready to testify against Julie. She is unfit to be a mother. Eve does a 180 and sides with Julie – gee she was fighting for her child of course she was a bit desperate. Eve sympathizes with Julie (and she’s been hiding it so well up to now) because of her own experience. Kevin – aghast as he should be – wants to know if Eve wants to forgive Julie and if Julie deserves Christina (well the woman that bricked me in the wall – vs the woman that was the great love of my Kevin’s life – decisions, decisions.) Cool, scene over.

Barrows points out amphetamines were delivered to the Firehouse while Karen was watching Christina. Scott still defends her. The judge orders Karen to take a blood test, because if Scott is carelessly letting a person influenced by drugs watch Christina; maybe the adoption should be rescinded after all. Hearing is adjourned. Lee thinks it is good news, once Karen is proven clean Julie’s ship will be sunk. Julie is sorry that Karen had to be dragged into this, Scott snipes at her.

Julie tells Chris that she was telling the truth, she does hate dragging Karen into this. Chris reassures Julie that once Scott finds out Karen is on drugs he won’t let Karen anywhere near Christina. Julie realizes that Scott and Lucy have been good parents to Christina, that’ s why rescinding the adoption won’t be easy. Chris is once again the reassurance man, Karen’s drugs changes everything. Julie thinks maybe things are going their way.

Eve wants to discuss the wedding cake topping, but Kevin wants an answer to his Julie question. They get a tad testy with each other, until Eve says it’s Scott and Lucy’s battle and they shouldn’t go to war themselves over it. Kevin thinks it is Eve’s best idea since the proposal. They hug but Kevin looks a bit – worried maybe? Lucy wants to talk to Claire. Lucy doesn’t know if Scott told her, but he is involved in a very demanding personal crises. Claire replies no he didn’t. Just like Scott Lucy says, generous and helpful but gee he is very busy and so Lucy has a list of other lawyers that Claire might like to use. Claire wants Lucy’s husband (not that way!). Lucy still thinks a new lawyer would be best for Claire – best for everyone.

Scott pays a visit to Karen and tells her what happened during the hearing. Karen gets nervous when drugs are mentioned. She then gets highly offended when she finds out she was ordered to take a blood test. Karen loudly insists she is not about to take a drug test (gee wonder why not?) Scott has an uh-oh look on his face.

And all good things must come to an end, and so this episode has.
