Our happy Tuesday episode begins with Karen all un-happy, sitting at her desk unable to work. She looks at her chief resident nameplate for a long moment. Gee, do ya think it’s maybe time to give that up? Scott pays a visit to Claire who is all hooked up to machines and in obvious pain. She cheers up when Scott tells her his 10-year daughter Serena told him he should help her.
And next – Lucy opens the door and there is Kevin. Wow, what a coincidence that I keep getting these K/L updates. Kevin wonders if it is too late for a visit (as if), Lucy just hates that he missed kissing his Goddaughter good night. Kevin hopes that she gave her a kiss for him, Lucy smiles and says she always does. They then move on to the death threat discussion, and Kevin wonders why Lucy is so sure it’s Julie. Kevin tells Lucy they both know she doesn’t need security (Isn’t it amazing how well Kevin still knows Lucy?)
The credits come rumbling by, and we are back to the Kevin and Lucy discussion. Kevin knows that Lucy isn’t in any real danger because Julie is too smart to threaten Lucy. Lucy snorts that Julie is desperate and Kevin softly replies that so is Lucy. Lucy wants to know what Kevin is implying (all haughty) but Kevin knows that Lucy knows what he is implying (that’s because they know each other so well – yes I am a K/L pusher, so arrest me.) Kevin knows that the thought of losing Christina makes Lucy feel like she is going to die (such a smart man – so in tune to Lucy.) Kevin reminds Lucy that at the christening Lucy said that she believed the universe had brought Christina into her life. Lucy was just giving the universe a slight push. Kevin points out that Lucy is using Julie’s tactics – deceit and all. Lucy thinks Kevin should have this discussion with Scott, but Kevin thinks that if Lucy wants honesty from her husband she should give him the same courtesy. And so ends the best scene of the day.
Scott wonders why no one is around to help Claire. Claire admits her father is her medical guardian, which makes her DNR order useless. She wants Scott to help her live out the rest of her way her way, which would be anywhere but in GH (she must have been talking to Luke Spencer.) Scott wants her to do something with the rest of her life; Claire has never read War and Peace. Scott is apparently very fond of that book because he agrees to take her case.
Speaking of lawyers, Alexis has trampled right over those pesky elves again to pay another visit to Frank. Courtney is there and not very happy with Alexis and her visit. Alexis has been doing a chronological order of who knew what when, and since Frank’s rights were terminated before he had any clue about Christina, then the chances are very good he can reverse the termination. (Wouldn’t it be great if Alexis stayed on our side of town? Think of all the possibilities.) Karen fishes out a pill from her purse. Studies it. Puts it back down and heads back to her desk. There is a knock on her door and Joe peeks in. He enters, turning on the light as he does so. They talk about what a heavy weight to carry perfection is (gee don’t I know that). Joe wants Karen to give herself permission to screw up (something he knows lots about). Karen wishes it was as easy for her as it is for him. Joe believes Karen has the courage to take her life back. Karen thanks him. Joe stops on his way out to state that they made mistakes, but that they loved each other the best that they knew how (stick a fork in that love affair – it’s done.)
Joe leaves and there is another knock at Karen Central. This time it is Scott. Scott feels Karen is avoiding him, Karen feels ashamed. Scott wonders where they go from here. Karen thinks it is her fight, and tells him she can’t take a drug test because she won’t pass it. She thinks Scott should just walk away, but Scott says, “make me” or something as fatherly. Karen berates herself for putting Christina in danger. Scott will tell the judge he will never leave Karen alone with Christina again. Karen’s beeper goes off, an intern who thinks she still does a good job she sadly states. Scott promises not to leave her. (Man that Scott has had an amazing couple of weeks.)
Alexis warns Frank he must speak up now if he wants Christina rights, separate and apart from the custody issue. Courtney sees no need in anything legal, bur Frank seems to be seriously considering it. Alexis – brilliant woman that she is – can see Courtney doesn’t want the Christina complication.
Kevin offers Eve a spin in the old race car bed (Tammy holds her breath and types really really really fast) and grumbles about Victor and begs to be able to go back to his own house and walks Eve to her car. (Gasp for air) There that’s over. Almost less painful than the dentist. Lucy is at the hospital too; she tells Scott she needs to discuss the letter with him. Scott swears eternal security, but Lucy admits it was a hoax. She wants to talk about the letter somewhere else, but Scott refuses to break his word to Karen. Lucy offers to wait with him, but Scott doesn’t think that is a good idea considering the way Lucy yelled at Karen before. Lucy – about as warmly as the iceberg that sank the Titanic – agrees to leave.
And then – faster than you can say faster than a speeding bullet – Lucy is home and Courtney is now her late night visitor. Courtney tells the unthrilled Lucy that Frank is discussing parental rights with Alexis and in the same breath asks for more money (got to admire her initiative). Frank is deeply thinking (which probably takes some effort) when unsleepish Neil sits by him on the couch. They discuss Christina vs. Neil; Frank tries to convince him the situations are very different and that he loves and wants Neil. Neil wonders if it will make Frank sad later if he doesn’t claim his daughter now.
Karen stands outside her door and pulls out pill. Studies it. Looks around. And pops that sucker. She then goes in to see Scott, surprised that he is still there. Karen doesn’t know how to get out of the deep hole she is in. Scott takes her hand and then pulls her to him in a big fatherly hug. Karen smiles. Kevin is on couch, tossin’ and turnin’. Eve calls wishes him sweet dreams and he grumbles back at her about wanting to go home. She tells him to look out the window, he goes outside, she is on the Lighthouse roof, and they look at the same moon and discuss how romantic that is. And then they hang up – thank goodness – and Eve sees someone on the ground. She gets her handy-dandy flashlight but the person has vanished and the show is over.
