The show begins with Victor walking Eve down the aisle – under the trellis full of flowers, left by the guests. Victor kisses Eve, and then Kevin takes her hand and they approach the minister.

Rev.: Family and friends – we have gathered to witness and support the blessed union of Kevin Collins and Evelyn Rae Lambert. Marriage is an honorable estate and should not be entered into lightly, or unadvisedly, but discreetly and soberly. I ask the two of you, and if you know any reason why you should not be joined…

Just then Estelle walks up to the altar and pushes in between Kevin and Eve.

Estelle: (touching Eve’s face) Oh! My sweet, pretty baby! You make the perfect bride.

Rev: Excuse me.

Estelle: Quiet! There’s a wedding going on! (Then to Eve) And a lovely wedding (she kisses Eve’s hand). Oh! What happened to the perfume? You didn’t like the perfume Momma left you?

Victor: Excuse me, why don’t you let me help you… I’m just going to help you back to your seat (he starts to guide her back down the aisle).

Estelle: Who are you? Who are you? No, thank you. (She starts to struggle w/ Victor) no, stop it, STOP IT! (She glares at Victor, and then looks at Kevin). Kevin?

Kevin: Do you know me?

Estelle: Well of course I do, silly. My baby always wanted to marry a doctor. You remember when.. Oh no, that’s not the dress… that’s not the bride. Where’s my daughter? What have you done with her?

Gail: (ever the psychiatrist – tries to step in and help) I, I know where she is, it’s all right, it’s all right, I’ll take you to her.

Estelle: (breaks away from Gail) No, No, No – You can’t marry him! He promised to marry my daughter!

Eve: (touching Kevin’s arm) Kevin….

Estelle: (lunging at Eve) HE BELONGS TO MY DAUGHTER!

Eve: Oh!

Kevin: Victor!

Kevin tries to hold Estelle back, as the Minister tries to protect Eve. Victor and Gail both try to subdue Estelle as she goes after Eve. Just then, Rachel rushes in.

Rachel: No, don’t touch her! Leave her alone!

Estelle: (pointing at Kevin) I warned her!

Rachel: Leave her alone! (She rips Estelle out of the grip of Victor and Gail)

Kevin: Do you know her?

Estelle: Where is she? Where is Gracie? Why isn’t she here?

Rachel: Shhhh….

Estelle: You’re supposed to MARRY GRACIE!

Eve: Who is this woman?

Kevin: I don’t know, I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before.

Rachel: Go on. Why don’t you tell her? Why don’t you tell everyone who Gracie was?

Kevin: Grace? (Lucy is shown looking shocked)

Rachel: Yeah that’s right – Grace! Your ex-fiancée and my sister!

Kevin: Your sister? (Estelle is crying on Rachel’s shoulder).

Rachel: It’s OK Momma I’m here – everything is gonna be okay.

Opening credits

Back at the “almost” wedding

Rachel: It’s OK Momma – everything is fine, I’m here and it’s all over.

Estelle: (breaks free from Rachel) NEVER! He murdered my baby!

SIMULTANEOUSLY:

Scott, Gail & Frank all try and subdue Estelle.

(She goes after Kevin) GRACIE!

Joe makes a cell phone call:

Joe: Get here as quick as you can – 71 Lighthouse Way

Kevin: Don’t hurt her!

Rachel: Don’t hurt her, let her go!

Estelle: GRACIE! (Frank loosens his grip)

Rachel: Momma just don’t fight

Estelle: Look it isn’t me, it’s him. He is the one that has to pay.

Kevin: Let her go.

Eve: Kevin!

Kevin: I should try and talk to her.

Estelle: All by herself – you just left her. She wasn’t there – lost – lost in the water.

Kevin sees a flashback of Grace drowning in the car

Estelle: You did it! YOU MURDERER!

Rachel: No, stop! Stop it! Momma everyone knows okay? You told them, they all know now.

Estelle: My little girl… my little girl… never came…. Never came back!

Gail: It’s all right, it’s all right we all feel badly and…. and (waiting for Rachel to help her out)

Rachel: Estelle

Gail: and Estelle, Estelle we all feel badly – we understand and we’re on your side so just come with me a minute and talk about it…. (She leads Estelle away).

Eve: I can’t believe this.

Kevin: I can. (Approaches Rachel) I knew the day you took Julie away from me as a patient that you had an agenda.

Rachel: That’s paranoid.

Kevin: You’re Grace’s sister!

Rachel: Yes, I’m Grace’s sister but I had no idea who you were.

Kevin: Oh drop it – this started the day you came to town!

Rachel: This started the day you murdered my sister!

Kevin: That was a suicide and you know it!

Rachel: You’re a liar! She never would have done that!

Kevin: She killed herself Rachel! She killed herself and she nearly killed me in the process!

Rachel: Nearly wasn’t nearly close enough!

Rev.: This might be the right time for all of us to….

Victor: Check the trellis – yes, anybody who hasn’t had an opportunity…

Mary: the flowers…

Victor: for the flowers, now would be the time…

Lee: Serena? Wanna go get some punch with your Grandpa?

Lucy: That’s a great idea, save me a cup –okay listen it’s gonna be okay, all right? Don’t worry (kisses Serena) It’s gonna be okay. (Scott leaves)

Some cops arrive

Joe: They explain the situation to you?

Cop # 1 Yeah, is that her?

Joe: Yeah.

Estelle: Oh – the police – there you are - he’s the one, he’s the one, you’d better hurry before he hurts someone else.

Rachel: Momma just let them handle this.

Cop # 2: Step aside M’am

Rachel: It’s all right. I’m a doctor. She’s my Mother.

Estelle: He murdered by daughter!

Rachel: She means my sister and she doesn’t need those, she’s not strong.

Eve: Oh yes, she does need them.

Rachel: If we can just get her back to the hospital and on her medication she’ll be fine.

Estelle: You see - I’m the mother of the bride, I have to dance at my sweet Gracie’s wedding.

Gail: Estelle, Estelle, why don’t you come with me? Yes, it’s all right, nobody will mind if you just have a little breather here, a little bit, huh?

Rachel: (to Kevin) Are you proud of yourself, Doctor?

Kevin: Me?

Rachel: This is all that’s left of her since Grace died.

Eve: Give it a rest, Rachel.

Rachel: Like hell I will, this is my mother. (Lucy goes to Kevin, who mouths to her something like “I’m okay”.)

Eve: This is my wedding!

Kevin: Eve, it’s not worth it, let’s go.

Rachel: I wouldn’t go too near the water, if I were you.

Eve: Oh please, give it a rest. (Eve turns to leave and Rachel grabs her arm)

Kevin: Hey!

Rachel: He got away with murder, and he’s got the nerve to look down his nose at me while I defend Julie.

Kevin: That’s it Rachel – shut up!

Eve: You have no right!

Rachel: My sister is dead because of him, that gives me the right!

Lucy: No Rachel, it doesn’t! You are wrong

Rachel: What do you know about this?

Lucy: (continuing) he was not responsible. I know everything about this. I know about your sister – she was sick and she was demented and dangerously unbalanced.

Eve: Oh gee, it looks like it runs in the family.

Lucy: You know what the miracle here… it’s incredible and he was incredible to get through that relationship alive, and it is amazing that he is standing here, willing to trust another human being to get the happiness he deserves.

Rachel: You know, it’s amazing to me the way you work all the simple-minded women around here.

Eve: Get out of here, Rachel, and take your batty mother with you.

Rachel: (to Eve) I hope you like our wedding present. Because every time you think of this day, you’re gonna think of this.

Eve: No kidding.

Rachel: (To Kevin) And you, with the unforgivable cowardly things you did, to my sister and my mother. (She turns to leave). Come on Momma, are you ready.

Estelle: Stay with me?

Rachel: Yeah, of course I will, every minute… every minute. (She turns toward Kevin & Eve once more) And you are going to remember this. (The police follow Rachel and Estelle away from the wedding.)

Commercial

Victor approaches Kevin, who is standing alone.

Victor: Monk – where’s Eve?

Kevin: She’s taking a moment with Karen. She’s trying to put some space between all ….that, and what’s next.

Victor: But she’s all right?

Kevin: Yeah.

Victor: Thank God. Tell me something; do you think there’s any possibility that Rachel and her mother have been pulling some strings behind the scenes lately?

Kevin: You mean like the girl at my bachelor party who looked just like Grace?

Victor: And the case of red wine without a note?

Kevin: And here I thought it was just pre-wedding jitters. Now I know.

Cut to Karen and Eve up at the Lighthouse. Karen hands Eve a glass of water.

Karen: Eve.

Eve: Oh. Are the natives getting restless?

Karen: Everybody understands, all right?

Eve: Really? Well do me a favor, go pick one out and have him or her explain it to me. You know, I should have just punched out Rachel’s psycho Mother when she attacked me!

Karen: It would have made a good picture for the album. (They both smile)

Kevin: Everything okay out here?

Karen: Oh I don’t know, the bride’s thinking of changing her name to Tyson instead of Collins, but other than that, you’re pretty much caught up. I’d just watch my ear… (Karen leaves).

Kevin: So you feel like biting someone?

Eve: Stop it! I’m worried about you, you must be numb! (They embrace).

Kevin: Shell-shocked maybe, but numb? Never – not when I’m with you.

Eve: Well you know, Rachel was right about one thing – we can’t just forget what happened.

Kevin: Nothing’s changed for me Eve. Not the way I feel about you. Our future, starting today.

Eve: Are you sure you want to go through with this?

Kevin: Only if you’re willing to take the ride with me. (They kiss). One way or another, we’re saying “I do”.

Karen down on the landing, alone. Joe approaches.

Joe: Hi.

Karen: Hi.

Joe: Are we moving forward with all this?

Karen: Yeah, Eve’s putting the final touches back in place.

Joe: Pretty stressful day for her, huh?

Karen: Oh yeah.

Joe: How about you? You doing all right?

Karen: Yeah, I’m just trying to be the best friend possible to both the bride and groom.

Joe: You’ve always been an incredible friend, Karen.

Karen: Yep – everybody’s best pal.

Joe: Oh c’mon – you know what I meant.

Karen: I know. Thanks.

Victor: Karen!

Joe: Victor.

Victor: Joe. Good news- Eve is ready whenever you are.

Karen: Well great. Let’s get this show back on the road. (To Joe) See you later.

Joe: Okay. Break a leg.

Karen: Well thanks, but I think we’ve had enough excitement for one wedding. Come on Victor before the crowd gets ugly. They’ve waited long enough for this knot to be tied.

Back to Kevin & Eve

Eve: Are you waiting to walk down the aisle in tandem this time, Doctor?

Kevin: Well that’s a sight to see.

Eve: Are you sure you won’t get tired of seeing it?

Kevin: I won’t get tired of looking at you, in this life, or the next. How about you?

Eve: I have been dreaming about this day for as long as I can dream. I can’t wait for this to come true. (He takes her arm and they start down the aisle – together)

Rev. We’ve gathered here in the sight of God and this company for Kevin & Eve The Wedding – Part Two. In keeping with this rather unconventional ceremony the groom has asked to address you all. So without further ado… (They turn and face the crowd).

Kevin: Well, we’ve had a few surprises tonight. But they were surprises that frankly, have kept too much attention away from what this day is really about I do hope that family finds some peace, but as to what this is about. It’s what we feel about each other. And how that grew into where we are tonight, wasn’t just a choice, it was something that had to be. But that’s not the way it started.

Eve: (Laughing) No, it’s not.

Kevin: I remember the first time I saw her.

Eve: I remember the first twenty times I saw him.

Kevin: I said to myself “That’s something you don’t see everyday, a doctor with legs that go right on up to her….”

Eve: stethoscope!

Kevin: Stethoscope. But she was also as stuck up as she was gifted, but then she thought I was way too stuffy for my own good.

Eve: Yes, but she changed all that, didn’t she?

Kevin: Well, I like to think that she brought out something that I didn’t realize was there.

Eve: It took a few late nights at a karaoke bar and almost breaking his back doing the limbo to find it.

Kevin: Well actually, it was when she got me out in public wearing a ratty old pair of blue jeans that clinched it.

Eve: And we knew it must be love.

Kevin: It was. Partly because under my oh, so stuffed shirt, happens to lie a highly developed sense of humor, if I do say so myself. And that comes from the man (chokes up here, looking at Victor) who taught me how important it is to have that. And how important it is that you helped us find each other, and to keep that sense of humor intact. Thank you for teaching us how to laugh through the worst of times, as well as through the best of times. (Victor mouths “Thank you”).

Eve: And thank you to our family and friends for sharing your warmth, and your love with us. This day means so much more because you’re here with us.

Kevin: Take it away Reverend! (Eve hands her bouquet to Karen, and turns to face Kevin).

Commercial

Eve & Kevin are each holding one lit candle – there is a larger, pillar candle unlit.

Rev: With these lights your community of loved ones pass along their love and hopes for a long, bright, harmonious future into your hands. (They light the larger candle, together) And now, the rings.

Kevin: Wait, wait, just a minute. Eve, I waited my whole life. I mean, the years go by, and you just, just go along with them and you find that you’re on a road, and then suddenly you find a bend in the road and it leads to a whole new road and you take it, you just decide to take it, and then you realize you’re on the road that you were always meant to be on. And that the road was a path that led to your own heart, that it leads to a part of you, and your soul that was missing. And you realize that you’re home. You’re my home. You’re my heart’s home.

Eve: (Crying) Kevin, I grew up wandering from town to town, from person to person. I had nothing familiar, no consistency, no roots. One town just melded into the other. It was like the world lost its color. And then I met you and it’s amazing how blue the sky really is! And how green the grass is, and how brilliant and beautiful your heart is. And like you, I found my home and its colors are beautiful and rich and forever.

Rev: (clears his throat).

Kevin: Now.

Rev: The rings, please.

Victor hands Kevin the rings. Kevin and Eve exchange rings. The Reverend loosely ties a large piece of ribbon around their joined hands.

Rev: Kevin and Eve, let this ribbon gently entwine your hearts and love for this night, and all the nights and days to come, as partners, as friends, as lovers, as husband and wife.

Kevin: Um… now?

Rev: I would if I were you.

They kiss to the applause of all their friends and family – and the show is over.
