Port Charles Update for Monday, 12-Mar-2001

Frank continues to get bizarre messages from an unknown source on “Nellie” including one that asks him what kind of machine he is! (perhaps Karen is hoping a sex machine?) He calls Karen and discusses the bizarre messages with him. Karen tells him he’s pathetic and conceited (the phone sex last week was much better). Frank decides the messages must be a joke but Karen suggests that perhaps he has a secret admirer. When the finish their conversation, Frank scolds Nellie and heads out. As soon as he’s left, another message flashes across the screen “I want to know more about you.”

Alison is totally giving Jamal the cold shoulder over the Amanda issue. Ali is obnoxiously talking to Jamal through Jack (she must really be mad at Jamal if she’s friendly-ing up to Jack!). Jamal tries to convince Alison that her Nana wasn’t trying to manipulate her and reminds her of the value of family. Jack lashes out at the two of them for fighting when they’ve been through hell to be together and now they’re living their dreams. Ali and Jamal realize this isn’t an issue worth fighting over and can’t even decide who should apologize first. All seems cozy until the building inspector shows up at the bike shop and announces that they have 52 outstanding violations, all of which must be remedied in the next 48 hours or they’ll have to close down the business. Jack and Jamal are completely perplexed but Alison clues them in – this is what Amanda does to those she loves when she doesn’t get her way. Apparently she’s trying to manipulate them into moving into her mansion by taking away their livelihood and they’ll have to depend on her financially, so she can control them.

Eve arrives at Ian and Arianna’s new apartment to find him bare chested and her in a revealing negligee. This is a priceless moment. When asked why she’s there, Eve makes a pitiful excuse about needing to deliver some papers from the hospital to Ian (where neither he nor Eve have actually put in a day’s work since November). Arianna does not hide her displeasure that Eve is back in town; she was under the impression that Eve was gone for good. Arianna freaks out when Ian admits that he knew Eve was in Port Charles and that the INS agent found them both at the old apartment (wait til she finds out about the island!). Eve tries to “help” Ian out with his excuses and her own for coming over, but she really sounds unconvincing. Ian excuses himself to answer a phone call, which is from Victor. He’s inquiring about how to get someone (Arianna) a new identity in a new location. Meanwhile, the gals have a glaring match and Eve looks away first. Eve tries to convince Arianna that she’s not trying to ruin things for her and compliments her on making their marriage look real, on how nice the apartment looks. Then she starts going on about Ian and gets that look in her eyes and that sound in her voice and Arianna looks ready to rip Eve’s hair out. An anguished Arianna yells at Eve to stay away. When Ian returns to the room, Arianna apologizes and flees, likely afraid that Ian will be angry with her for lashing out at Eve. Eve tells Ian that this arrangement is not okay and that it’s become apparent that Arianna is concerned with losing something other than just her life. Ian really seems clueless and Eve finally spells it out for him – Arianna is in love with him.
