Jack and Alison get things set up for the café. Alison lets Jack know that she plans to tell Jamal that the money came from her Grandmother. Jack doesn’t think that Jamal will react too well to this news. Zack, Sam and their crew arrive at the bike shop. Jamal informs them that their business is not welcome there. Zack tries to persuade Jamal otherwise, and Jamal physically throws him out. Zack spills the awful truth to Jamal – the money Alison used to open the café came from him and he wants it back!
Frank demands to know why Cookie is playing games with him. She turns on Frank. Now that they are both aware of the time lapse, neither of them can explain it. They’re communicating over a span of 28 years using one computer that is not even plugged in. Frank calls Victor for help. With the use of some dating materials, Victor estimates the carving in the windowsill to be between 25 and 30 years old. Perfect timing! Meanwhile, Cookie calls a friend and tries to explain the bizarre phenomena in her life. Frank, back on the computer, reaches out to Cookie. She tells him to get lost and he tries to calm her. They share their stories of the reaction they receive when they tell the story of how they are communicating. He asks Cookie to go to Kelly’s, remove the loose brick outside and put a note in it for him. She quickly exits the computer because her dad has come home, without agreeing to leave the note. Frank arrives at Kelly’s and removes the brick – no note. He keeps turning to leave and finds himself unable to. Finally he checks one last time and there is a note from Cookie, in a plastic baggie (odd?) waiting for him. To say Frank is stunned would be an understatement.
Lucy sits in the park when who should come along but Kevin, still looking angry. Lucy admits that she messed up. She claims she thought she was just trying to take care of what Kevin was too busy to do but really she just wants him divorced and ready to move on. He assures Lucy that she needn’t be threatened by his relationship with Eve but she still worries that something always goes wrong for them and she’s pretty much waiting to see what it will be this time. He tries to reassure her that this time is different and she’s the only one for him.
Eve walks in on Karen holding up a syringe. Karen asks Eve to help her and Eve assumes the worst. She launches into the sympathetic friend routine – Karen means too much to her, she won’t let her do this to herself, etc. Eve’s assumption couldn’t be more off base (and if I were Karen, I’d have been a lot more offended) – she’s drawing her own blood to determine whether she can serve as Arianna’s liver donor, since they do have the same blood type. Eve tells Karen that if she is serious about it, she has to be doing it for the right reason – to allow Arianna to live her life, not to try to save her so that Eve and Ian will get another chance. Eve reminds Karen that acting as an organ donor is not a minor procedure. In the end, Karen comes up as a match.
Meanwhile in Arianna’s room, she’s chatting, smiling and reading the newspaper. She and Ian discuss the possibility of a transplant. She tells Ian that perhaps her sister could serve as her donor and the truth comes out that her father refuses to allow anyone in her family to help save her life. Ian confides in her that he has been out of touch with his family since his sister died and tells her that your home and family is where your heart is – can she believe this? With a huge smile, she tells him she will try. Ian responds that he will help her if she will let him and that from now on, they are family. Eve is outside and sees Ian caressing Arianna’s hair. A nurse comments on how devoted Ian is to his wife. Eve realizes that this is true.
Next time, Karen has second thoughts about being Arianna’s donor and Jamal accuses Jack of setting Alison up.
