News for the week of 14-Apr-2003

Even the so-called nobility of professional performers deign to indulge in the commonplace of gossip around proverbial water cooler (in their case, probably espresso machine). Every soap has its share, those who always seem the most in-the-know on the latest dish. At PC, it’s Brian Gaskill (Rafe), according to Kelly Monaco (Livvie). He seems above the fray, quietly doing his job, minding his own business, but the guy has the pulse of the undercurrents, she added, joking that it’s the “sneaky, quiet” guys to beware of. At GH, Billy Warlock (A.J.) swears it’s him and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), but then they’re known to frequent the ‘Net, where the latest buzz happens instantaneously, no publishing or editorial criteria to worry about. Other gossip hounds in the industry include Hillary B. Smith (Nora, OLTL), per Kassie DePaiva (Blair, OLTL); the hair and make-up department, Rebecca Budig (Greenlee, AMC), Alicia Minshew (Kendall, AMC), Terri Ivens (Simone, AMC) and Amelia Heinle (Mia, AMC), per Minshew; Rodney Van Johnson (T.C., Passions; ex-Sebastian), per Amelia Marshall (Liz, Passions); Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R), per Jess Walton (Jill, Y&R); and Ali Sweeney (Sami, DOOL), per Arianne Zuker (Nicole, DOOL). –Soap Opera Digest, April 15, 2003
When you give Erin Hershey Presley (Alison) choices in a fun Q&A, she’s liable to take them all. In an either/or interview setting that most other actors use to showcase firm opinions, this Virgo beauty firmly shies away from having to narrow her options, or simply adds a third. Why have margaritas or martinis when she can drink a Bud Light? Why limit herself to rain or snow, when she can have rain first followed by snow, both provide homey comforts? Same goes for hamburgers and hotdogs, brains and brawn, home-cooked meals and dinners out, facials with massages, mountain and beach destinations, showers usually but baths with more time to spare.... She does draw the line when it comes to ice cream – vanilla, pets – dogs because of husband Brian Presley’s (Jack) cat allergy, movies for Brian’s Milk Duds, her peanut M&Ms and their popcorn.
Always a clotheshorse girly-girl since her teens, Marie Wilson (Karen) – a former model as well – gravitates toward the clean, crisp lines of an Armani, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, normally presumed men’s fashions. Not so, basic women like Wilson enjoy the dual-sex styles as timeless classic. She’s also been into a lot of soy-based great-smelling skincare from Fresh, along with a bit of Clarins and L’Occitane.
Technically, Filipinos are from the area of and around Asia, the same as Koreans, Japanese and Malaysians. But they’re not Asian, they’re Pacific Islanders, the same as Samoans, Polynesians, even Australians and New Zealanders. It’s a distinction Filipino-American Joy Bisco (Casey) takes great pride in and great pains to make Kiko Ellsworth (Jamal) understand. Originally, he just thought she was Asian, but after her earnest, impassioned, impromptu class on Pacific Rim differences, he knows better now.
In many ways, Eddie Matos resembles his character Ricky Garza. The suave, but appreciative, way with the women, the drumming, at times the hotheaded argumentativeness [as a friend can attest to], but generally, Matos is more laid-back about his pursuits, sensitive about others’ feelings, and – duh! – never had a criminal past. The actor does delight in TPTB allowing him to bring more of himself to the role, such as the musicianship for Stephen Clay’s band [Matos is a real-life drummer in his band 23-Link Chain]. And wishes at times that he could borrow his alter-ego’s aggressive all-or-nothing personality to the dating game, even though Matos would never play dirty with tainted candles. Co-star Joy Bisco (Casey; ex-Marisa) affirmed the differences between Matos and Garza, smart versus dumb, cocky versus humble, and the similarities in the energy and the smooth operator.

Is Caleb coming to Port Charles, the alternate, allegedly realistic universe called GH?
Insiders insist that Rafe will not be the main character doomed later this summer. But someone already on the canvas will suffer an exit. In addition to Casey – oops, I mean, ... a newbie.
