worry that the Chinese could be collecting users' data, thus causing a security breach, and I do wonder how much misinformation has been spread via TikTok. OTOH, as Kris said, I feel for the businesses who will lose a way of advertising, the content creators who will lose income and the people who will lose their community over this*. And as Pablo said, I worry about the future of free speech and wonder if other apps are next (I don't think so; I really believe China's involvement is the biggest reason why TikTok is in the government's crosshairs, though there's also the detrimental effect it's had on some people, especially younger people). So in short...I don't know how to feel about all this.
* Despite never having been on Tik Tok--my only social media is Instagram, because I like the pretty pictures--I've still seen a ton of Tik Tok videos via You Tube or phone recs. It saddens me to see all the people making one last (for now) Tik Tok featuring them crying over the loss of an app.
