News for the week of 15-Feb-2016
by Carol Banks Weber
Joshua Morrow’s (Nick) hilarious when he wants to be. He almost always wants to be. Michael Fairman caught him on a good day for the giggles in a Feb. 10 interview about Nick’s current mystery surrounding Dr. Anderson. Morrow talked about the story, its effect on the characters, Dr. Anderson’s big spooky blue eyes, missing the nice actress’ presence since the character was just killed off, and the funny stuff like… not screen-testing with Elizabeth Bogush (Dr. Anderson) but going buck wild back when he got to screen test with Sharon hopefuls. “No, but they bring me in sometimes to screen test with people when they are casting contract roles. You know, I remember when they were recasting the role of Sharon; I had to kiss the actresses trying out for the part for hours. I remember thinking, ‘This is just awesome!’ They brought in eight of the hottest chicks I have ever seen, and they told me I get to make out with all of them. I hit the ‘Job Powerball’ right then and there.”
Of course, Morrow got serious when it was time to talk acting and who’s on top from scene to scene. Whoever it is, he believes both parties should be open to serving the story. “We are not verbalizing that to each other, and if you have two actors who are very aware of what’s happening in a scene, and they are very supportive and understanding of what’s happening, one should realize that,” he explained. “I think that is when you reach that place where the work needs to be to really succeed. There are certain actors who don’t really want to give up the reins sometimes, and you say, ‘If you would have just let me in here and conceded something in a moment, and it doesn’t have to be big, the scene will work better. It’s not my place to tell people how they are going to do their job.”
But it was Michelle Stafford’s (ex-Phyllis; Nina, GH)? Let him explain. “I really learned that from Michelle… She was remarkable to me about that. You would come out and say the words, and she would use this term a lot. Michelle would say, ‘You need to lose this.’ I really started to get her process. Sometimes in a scene you have to let the other person in the scene win. I believe that 100 percent.”
Eileen Davidson (Ashley) suffered a loss recently. Her older brother John “Jack” Davidson, 69, passed away suddenly the other week.
Stage manager Tom McDermott received the Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award at the Directors Guild of America Awards Feb. 6. McDermott’s resume includes Super Bowls, the Olympics, the NBA Finals, and several news/entertainment shows. He is the chairman of the DGA’s Western AD/SM/PA Council, and a member of the Guild for over 30 years.
Jensen Buchanan (ex-Vicky/Marley, AW; ex-Sarah, OLTL) reprises the stunt cast role of Judge Elise Moxley, returning Feb. 23.
