Justin Hartley (ex-Fox Crane, PSNS; Revenge, Smallville,Mistresses) appears as the recast Adam for November Sweeps. Landing this plum role was surreal for the Y&R fan. He told TV Guide’s Michael Logan this recently: “I’m so pumped about joining Y&R — I watch it all the time and can’t wait to get in there and get my hands dirty! I have great respect for daytime drama. I love the branding. I love the style. What can I say? I love good soap!”
Bryton James (Devon) speculated that Hilary just might be the final straw to divide the father and son bond. When Neil finds out that Hilary stepped out on him with his “son” Devon, James mused, that might be it for the strong family tie. After all, Devon isn’t related to Neil by blood, and Hilary is a big lifeline for both these men. “I think this is really going to blow up the Winters family. It’s going to be the biggest thing Neil and Devon have ever encountered in their relationship. I still don’t know how Neil is going to find out or if he is, but my opinion is that when it happens, it’s going to take a long time to rebuild that closeness,” James explained. “I was talking to Kristoff [St. John/Neil] about this last week, because with a real father and son, blood related, no matter what is said, no matter is done, you can’t change the fact that they’re father and son. But for Devon and Neil, he’s been a father in every sense of the word, but you know, he’s not really Devon’s dad. And this could be the thing that ends it. TPTB may have wanted a major primetime star as the recast Adam Newman before settling for Justin Hartley (ex-Fox, PSNS), at least according to the scuttlebutt from talent manager Michael Bruno. Bruno was on Lilly Melgar (ex-Lily, GH) and Martha Madison’s (ex-Belle, DOOL) August 21st, radio in TV show, Soap Box with Lilly & Martha. Which primetime star? Tom Welling (Smallville), Jason Lewis (Sex And The City), and Gale Harold (Queer As Folk), maybe. “They are obsessed, not just with [Smallville], [but] with primetime fallen names. I actually felt very bad for Judy Wilson [‘Y&R’ casting director]. She’s a great casting director, who’s such a hard worker, and yet they expect her to get a primetime name and work for a dollar. Michael Fairman on August 22 asks if Christian LeBlanc’s character Michael is destined to go belly-up. He bases this on the latest latest edition of Nelson Branco’s Soap Opera Uncensored, which claimed there were “[w]hispers around set” that a “veteran character” could be stricken with cancer and killed off to “free up a long-time coupling.”
