was questioning the use of the pronoun "they." Why did Aiden use that. I can't understand why LGBQT+ people do that." People jumped in trying to explain it to her. I was going to throw in my 2 cents but opted not to but I will do so here.

IMO, when Aiden used "they" he was subtle testing the waters to hint to his mother that the object of his crush is a male. When Liz smiled and then used "they" herself--I think it put Aiden at ease and he felt safe to express: "I like someone too. His name is Tobias." She didn't react. She immediately went into "Oh. Was he the one who did that wind turbine?" Aiden confirmed that it was. Liz then said: "I think he should have one too." And shot her son another smile. Aiden hugged her to say thank you for helping me and also for accepting me. Liz showcased that it was no big deal to her and Aiden absolutely felt that! I loved that it played so naturally. Is it possible that Aiden used "they" because that is the pronoun Tobias prefers? Of course. But then we will never know that unless Aiden reveals it or Tobias actually joins the cast--which I hope he does.

As a proud gay man myself, I think moms always know if not suspect. But I really feel like majority of moms have that intuition that tells them their child is gay. Sometimes they let it be known to their child. Sometimes they just wait on them to share when they are ready.
