Dex was paid to betray Sonny, only his job was to get evidence that would put Sonny in jail rather than kill him.

Granted Dex changed his mind when he fell in love with Joss and Sonny saved his life ... and saw that Sonny is the moral mobster the show says he is. It shouldn't make a difference but it will. I just hope the real traitor isn't Brick.
