It was a good step in the right direction to have Jake go to Jason for help. Jason as a dad needs to be explored.

Liz didn't need Jason to back her up. She has been standing up for herself (and raising his son on her own) for some time. Plus there was no danger Fin was going to physically hurt her to keep her from leaving.

Jason simply didn't belong in that scene, it was clucky. There are better ways to get Jason interacting with his son.
