If he was able to not only do the work, but at such a high level and Trina felt insecure ... why wouldn't she consider that it wasn't Kai who did the actual work? Of course Kai could be the one who did the work and would be offended she would think he didn't. But the fact that is is acting intimidated by his work makes it clear that she is going to be disappointed when she finds out the work wasn't his.
