Kate was stabbed and the knife was still in her stomach

''My maternal one's life processes were terminated with a piece of cutlery,'' Spinelli said miserably.

Jason stared at him, blinking twice.

''What are you talking about Spinelli?'' he asked.

''Someone stabbed my mother!'' Spinelli exclaimed.

''With a knife?'' Jason asked. ''Who uses a knife when you could use a beautiful shiny gun?''

Jason pulled his gun from its holster, stroking it and smiling.

''Uh, Stone Cold,'' Spinelli said. ''Can we get back to my mother's demise?''

''Uh, right,'' Jason said, putting his gun back in his holster. ''Did she tell you who your father was?''

''The dastardly D.A. of darkness,'' Spinelli said. ''Ric Lansing.''

''Stay here,'' Jason ordered. He ran out of the penthouse, leaving a confused Spinelli behind.
