Right on the heels of several major projects coming to fruition — her short film, her Write The Dream keynote address, her new memoir — Cady McClain (ex-Dixie) then lands a major role on Y&R, replacing Cynthia Watros as the darkly disturbed but compelling Kelly. Watros had to step down from her soap role when the new MTV pilot Finding Carter got picked up as a series. TV Guide’s Michael Logan first broke the news on Twitter last week, then Michael Fairman got to interview McClain for some details.
Watros’ Kelly ends on March 14, while McClain takes over April 24.
In the February 28th On Air, On Soaps interview, McClain enthused about her Y&R role. She’s always been a fan; it was her first soap opera experience growing up. She loved the glamour, the sexy, grown-up stories. Now she gets to be on the #1-rated soap she watched! The Y&R job came just in time, after such a disappointing Prospect Park/AMC run. Playing someone entirely different from Dixie is an actor’s boon. “I loved doing the show and I loved playing the character of Dixie. But I also need to play other characters, and I like to do that and it satisfies me. So Y&R coming along is just perfect … and what a great way to move forward. I am so grateful.”
